:wave2: Harole Ann!

I'm bored! How was your weekend? Any wins?

Yes, we had all wins!! A really good weekend! Thanks for asking. I was trying to take some pictures of Nathan pitching yesterday and he looked right at me and said "put the camera away!" The sun was in my eyes and I was having a hard time seeing to focus so before I could get his picture, he was on me---so I put the camera away. I wanted to send you some baseball pictures, but maybe next weekend!;)

:sad2: IT's started already! What is it about cameras and boys?

Mine disappeared right about when he turned 13. :sad2:

Hi Laura,

I'm so excitied! I just got a new laptop and we decided to go wireless. I can now get the internet anywhere in the house and I just tried to get on our network on my back patio and it works! It is beautiful out tonight. About 80 degrees with no breeze. While DH is cleanng the bbq grill I am sitting here typing away!!! All I need is a Bahama mama and I'm all set.:lmao: :lmao:

Maryann

Hey Mary Ann - aren't they the most wonderful invention? I am soooo hooked on mine. I'm sorta bummed that (we have Sprint) it won't work overseas. I am so spoiled with the speed of DSL wireless. I'm going to be totally bummed out.

To tell you the truth - I haven't taken mine outside and I probably should - its only about 74 but it feels good here. In fact, I'm oing to do it right now. I'll be back.

Are you both taking your laptops on the cruise? My only complaint is that I type slower!!

Harole Ann I wasn't planning on taking it as DH was taking his. But now, since I'm going on w/o the family to do the repo, I think I probably am going to have too unless DH takes just mine and the small printer. A Canon i90. Let's just hope I don't have any trouble with it. I'm a magnet for trouble with anything electronic. And now that the rooms are wireless - :woohoo: - I almost have too.

On another note - a 1st Med Cruiser let me know that BA allows 2 suitcases and the carryon can be as heavy as you want except that you have to be able to lift if up into the bins yourself. THis may help. Now I just have to worry about Iberia on the portion from Barcelona to Paris and back for me.

On another other note - I found this interesting tidbit about the lady that started the fish extenders. Her name is Deb and her DIS name is EpcotKilterFan or something like this. Kudos to her for starting such a wonderful, wonderful tradition.

I met her once but didn't know about fish extenders at the time.

 Hi

I am not sure about the celebrity part LOL!

Yes I did start the madness! I still laugh when I see threads started about them :rotfl2: And just more amazed at how they have taken off.

Search on ebay for wall hanging I believe. The lady that had them on ebay bought them from the same discount store that I did.

Good luck!
Debbie

He turned 13 in March...maybe that is the magic age...:lmao:

True to form - but its ok as long as they don't catch you - ;) them's are my rules of course! ;)

I would usually pre-focus and then turn around as if I wasn't going to take it, then when they got distracted, I'd whirl around and snap it and then turn it off.

Otherwise - the years between 13 - ? would be without the male species of the human race.

Now that I'm thinking about it - does anyone have any DH's, older sons, or males that don't mind the picture taking? Just curious.

I'm 0 -2 here

Do we have any idea how many families we will be needing treats for to put in the fish extenders? Also, are we going to get a master list of cabin numbers? Don't we still have some people who have no assignments yet for their stateroom? I would be getting upset over that. I really like to know where I am in the ship.:confused3

DH is making our fish extender, so it will be a little different. I can't wait until he is finished because I am anxious to see the finished project.

Well, Laura, I think everyone else is sleeping and I am ready to head to the shower and hope I sleep tonight because at 4:00am this morning I was still wide awake. That was a short night, and I won't do it again tonight!!:cloud9:

Sweet Dreams!!

Hi PD/HA -

Not sure on the final count of DIS families but this is how we did it on the 11-Night. We printed a list out just before leaving with the cabin numbers and or cabins highlighted. Some wonderful soul managed to layout a plan of DIS cabins per floor. Then we asked for volunteers for floor monitors. They didn't have to do anything, they would simply post a list of cabins on their floor and maybe update any changes. The individual DIS member was responsible for contacting or writing down on this list on floor cabin monitor so that anyone was allowed to check to see if anyone upgraded or was moved. We didn't use actual names - just DIS names to have some privacy.

I then worked from my printed list. When I delievered fish mail, I would go to the floor monitor cabin - (predetermined ahead of time - usually someone with an assigned cabin already) and double check to see if anyone had changed. I then proceeded to deliver. Sometimes it got hairy as several changed several decks and need to notify 2 cabin monitors or else they didn't get their goodies. If anyone is seriously interested in getting any goodies, they took care of this themselves.

I plan on getting something small in some ports just to deliver. I may even get some Barcelona candy and just put it in a ziplock back to deliver and just put in a scrap of paper with my DIS name in it.

Guess, if this sounds like a good idea - maybe we can ask for volunteers? I think it probably is something we should consider? What does everyone else think?

BTW, this also helps when it comes to judging a fish extender contest. Did we decide to do this? Nothing big - just to see who creative some people can be?

NO! I typed so much I put everyone to sleep!

Guess this is God's way of telling me to "WALK YOUR DOGS!"

ok - at least the :dog2: :dog2:'s will be :dogdance: :dogdance:

Hi Laura,

DH & I went for our nightly walk. Didn't want to come back in!! Yes, laptops are addicting and I am seriously considering taking it with us. I really hate to pay for internet on the ship but it will be a way to keep in touch with home. My mom is 89 and lives with us so my kids and my cousin are going to take turns taking care of her. It's getting harder as her mind is not what it once was but she can dress herself and putter around the house. I just have to leave her meals out because she won't cook anymore (thank goodness). In case of questions, etc. email is probably the fastest/easiest way. I'm afraid with the time difference and not hearing the cell phone, we could just keep missing eachother. I wish DCL allowed Skype. I wonder if we can pick up the signal in ports?

Anyway, I got a Dell Inspirion 1505, 15"screen with 160G hard drive (never use that much but it was a free upgrade) 2G memory, etc. really nice and easy to use, even with the new Windows Vista. It is really light for its size. The first custom thing I did was to set my desktop with a pic of the Magic Kingdom. When I showed DD the laptop today, and up came the desktop, she said, "Of course, what else would you have as wallpaper?" HEE HEE.

So you see, we're all a little:crazy:

Maryann

Oh, these fish extender thingies,

As I've stated too many times to count, I am the least creative person, so the thought of making one of these things makes me:scared: . The icing on the cake is that I have to find cabin numbers and deliver them. Let's put it this way, I bought a GPS device for my car, because I get lost going around the block.:dance3: I think I'm going to skip this one.

Important components of the Packing List (Sandaneli - Sandra)
List of things to do:
*Make fish extender, buy fabric, figure out pattern actually sew--Let dh do it, he is muc more creative
*Make door decoration, buy magnet, download pictures or "scrapbook" image somehow put image on magnet, test magnet with image attached--bought new software for computer & played with it having fun making door decorations!!
*Buy green glow necklaces--Thank goodness the Dollar Store just got huge supply!!
*Buy lime green ribbons to tie on clothes--dh picked up when he was getting goodies for fish extender
*Buy extra TP to start rolling. Let's see 2 people times 6 shore visits = at least 12 rolls, then there is the supply for those not bringing or rolling--Thanks, Sandra, I knew I could count on you!!:yay:
*Purchase/make or otherwise acquire hundreds of things for fish extender disboard gifts.--Started--, barely
*Purchase extra luggage for said fish extender gifts--That will give us room to bring home all that shopping we do!:rolleyes1
*Get part time job to pay for hundreds of fish extender gifts and overweight luggage charges.
*Purchase 2-4 white tshirts and iron on transfer sheets for printer to make 2 tshirts to wear on cruise to be identified by other dissers. (extra shirts are for mistakes)--Good Idea!!
*Make tshirts and then make them again when the first ones don't come out because I will have forgotten to reverse the printing. (I know me).
*Locate and purchase items of local interest for grab/swap at DisMeet.
*Print out family photos, coordinate with names and make booklet with names matched to faces so I don't totally blow it and call people by the wrong names.

Just one last thing, our local Home Depot seems to be a little short on paint samples in the Mickey lime green color...some strange lady seemed to take quite a lot of them this evening...wonder why??
:lmao: :lmao: Our local HD is completely out of lime-green mickey heads - has been... Hey Laura, have you been in Carson lately? Hmmmm?

I am with you on the ketchup, but also the :headache: headaches!! No one knows if they have not been there!! It is miserable, but I do hope you are feeling better today!:goodvibes I know it takes time to really feel better, but I am thinking about you!!;)

Thanks so much. I think it was a combination of being in the sun yesterday, the Mojito I drank last night, and not being hydrated. I've been drinking a lot yesterday & today, so hopefully my head won't hurt tomorrow.

My laptop doesn't have wireless, but recently at work, they made me turn in my regular computer and gave me a laptop... that is wireless :woohoo: Guess which one I'm taking on the curise with me. :goodvibes

ok - I'm here - your right - its nice too. Now - I come out here and the Stinky DD comes out and wants to know why I'm out here?

First one stinky dog that HAS to be but to hip on me and then the DD that wants to know if I'm feeling ok.

Wow - just an observation but my mood is slightly improving by the second.

GEEZ, does this really mean I'm ?
Do you REALLY want us to answer that? :upsidedow

Are you both taking your laptops on the cruise? My only complaint is that I type slower!!

Mine is pretty good about letting me take pics. So there's hope. I HAVE resorted to the whirl and snap in the past, though. Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do!

DS (23 now) didn't mind having his picture taken as long as he didn't have to pose. My DMIL is a picture nut and she would make him stop whatever he was doing to take a million pictures. She wouldn't give up so he got used to just sucking it up, and taking the picture. DH grew up with this and thought this was normal.:upsidedow :headache: . She's calmed down quite a bit over the years, but in general, the guys hate posing for family pics.

Well, I just speed read 28, oops no, 29 pages. I was going to take my laptop, but I didn't have much time to use it last weekend. This weekend I had plenty of time, oh well!!

Here is a summary of things we've discussed (most assuredly incomplete, but here goes)

.

Great list, thanks!!

Mary Jo I have to try to cut and paste a propeller beanie hat on the TP Mummy!!!!!!!

Well, lookie what I found! Must be a DISer, huh.

11450mummywbeanie.jpg

Too Awesome!!

Congrats!

My hubby, well being a software developer and old school bbs supporter understands what the DIS is all about. We joke that I am 'doing research'. By nature he tends to be a bit of a hermit and would be perfectly OK if we only stuck to ourselves. He doesn't mind meeting new people or hanging out with new people, but he doesn't seek it out.

I'm so glad that you're back!

Great picture!

Great Picture!! It just makes me even more anxious for the cruise, as if that is possible
Those character breakfasts are so much fun!!

They have changed the breakfasts - the characters don't come to the tables anymore. Here is a link:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1447577&referrerid=&highlight=character+breakfast

Congrats!!

Yes, but here in the U.S. we have toilets, not loos, so we need toilet paper, not loo paper.
Dan, you are hilarious - I love reading your posts - so original!!

I got a new tag!
Now how do I explain it to my husband???

Thank you Tag fairy
xx

Just tell him it was in reference to him :rotfl2:

MORE PICTURES OF THE FIRST MED CRUISE DISSER MEET ON THE FIRST DAY.

There is not enough alcohol in the whole EU to get my husband to do that!!

I have reedited the front page post 10 and 12 with all of the information I have had, now post 10 went over its limits on photos and also size so I had to re-edit across the following post 12.

Thank you!!

Thanks for the offer of the hat

Luckily I dont need it, just got back from hairdressers and I'm pleased.

I have booked a cut & Colour on the Monday before the cruise - However I'm not sure what colour I want (no not dis lime green)? Last year I had red and brown which I really liked. Hmmm I'm going to have to do some thinking about this

I thought your hair was red?

You can add w/the other pictures - thank you
Beautiful!

Dave has always wanted to go to Alaska -

It has never really appealed to me , but if Disney ever decided to do it - it would be the perfect compromise for us.
We are also planning Alaska for the future - would also like to go on the Disney Safari

Check this thread out if you are flying out to the states the day we disembark -

These people had 1pm flights leaving barcleona and were @ the airport from 9am. They say it was hectic

Thank you! We have 1:15, but to Paris through Turin

Congrats!

THE SUN today.

MICKEY Mouse is making waves in the Med this summer, with Disney Cruise Line’s first visit to Europe.

The spectacular ship – even the horns play “When you wish upon a star” – is sailing 12-night cruises from Barcelona around Italy and the Riviera.

Nearly all the passengers are Americans, mostly visiting Europe for the first time. They feel at home – onboard, everything is so American it’s like being at Disneyland.

So it’s a surprise to find a British woman in charge of the entertainment. Cruise director Rachel Quinn, 39, from Doncaster, is responsible for the shows, the shore excursions … and the frequent appearances of Mickey around the ship.

Of the 2,600 passengers, more than 900 are children. As you would expect from Disney, the kids’ facilities are outstanding. One of the ship’s two funnels is a dummy, concealing a hangout for teenagers, and there is a whole deck devoted to youngsters.

A huge outdoor screen was showing Pirates Of The Caribbean III – At World’s End, and stage shows in the 1,000-seat Walt Disney Theatre are as elaborate as anything in the West End or Broadway.

There are child-free areas, including one of the pools and several bars. But even for grown-ups, there’s still something special about meeting characters like Captain Hook and Mickey.

Disney Magic rejoins her sister ship DISNEY WONDER in the Caribbean at the end of the summer.

Two new ships are being built, and Disney are still deciding whether to return to the Mediterranean.

From David (daipp) on 2008 repo thread.
Thank you for sharing.

Ok as promised here is some info that a fellow 1st Med Cruiser sent me.

She is about 10 miles from my house. I PM'd her because she took the same flight that I will be taking when we leave. She has some other tips that we might find interesting.

If anyone is interested in asking her any other questions, just let me know and I'll ask her if its ok to forward her number. I also asked her to post if she felt like it at MrsG's (Mary Ann's) thread.
thank you for sharing too!

Thank you. It was so nice. And now both my babies (shh, don't tell them I call them babies) are out of high school!
I have told my kids that they will always be my babies!

Carrie - someday when that story comes out - you'll catch the look between your kids that looks something like this: or catch a comment that sounds like - "so THAT'S where I get it from!"

OOOPPPSSSS! :scared1: I see one of them pulled a JANET and had a wardrobe malfunction!

You think that was intentional? :rotfl2:

Disney Nipplegate??

My kids jumped on the laptop early and using my Dis logg in did this PM, so it shows as me to me.

THat was so sweet!

For some reason - with all this talk of TP - I read this as - I had a BM!
:rotfl2:

We're definitely taking the Harry Potter book with us. The issue will be who will read it first, my ds, Nick, or me. I'll probably have to get two different bookmarks because we'll both be reading it. I'm also taking Angels & Demons by Dan Brown - haven't read it yet. Nick is reading some Steven King serious, so he'll probably take that, too. Kelly doesn't much like to read books, so she'll probably take a soduko magazine to play. I also like to take crossword puzzle books to pass the time. I also have the audio book Watchers that I will probably download to my IPOD, since that is one of my all-time favorite books (Dean Koontz). I'll also download the DIS podcasts to listen to.
I loved Angels and Demons! Does he have anything new coming out??
My husband and 2 sons will be fighting over Harry - DD and I gave up on reading them a few years back.

Besides - I'm 4 pages back - came online to find out I was 18 pages behind! And I'm way behind Kyla again! So I got to do my part and ketcup to all you talkers! :lmao:

Right now I'm just holding my own. Life keeps getting in the way. I wonder if there is a pause button on life?

On the way home from softball the kids were watching Click in the car. Pause might be a good button, but fast forward is very sad - they needed tissues!!

I bet there will be literally hundreds of copies of the Harry Potter book on the ship. I don't think anyone has yet really thought out the consequences of this. I can see it now...

It will begin with reports from the 7/18 10 night cruise, which will suffer a 80% cancellation rate as kids on that cruise realize that they're going to be at sea on Harry Potter release day and simply refuse to sail. A few lucky ones will get on our 7/28 cruise, where rates will suddenly tripple due to demand.

Excursions will be nearly empty on our cruise. The most common sound heard in the hallways will be "Mom! I don't want to see some stupid Roman ruins. Harry just found another Voldemort Horcrux inside a roll of toilet paper!"

Meanwhile, for the first time in DCL history, adults will have free use of the now empty kids pool and slide, as the kids will be hiding in their cabins reading. Kids programming will be completely empty, except for the packed public readings of Deathly Hallows in the Walt Disney theatre, which will be hijacked by the kids programming staff (all normal shows being cancelled of course).

The Oceaneer's Lab will also be open to adults, if only to give the youth counselors something to do.

Personally, I'm quite looking forward to the unique opportunities presented by this situation. I will, of course, be immune to the Potter-Mania, as the previous Saturday morning will already have been, as usual, my traditional early morning drive to Costco to pull one off the giant palette of books they'll have. I won't sleep again until I'm done - which, depending on the length of the book, will be sometime that night.

This will put me (and others like me) in another unique position in the history of DCL. For if any kid annoys me in the slightest, all I'll have to do is look him or her in the eye, and tell them to buzz off or I'll tell them how it ends. Thet'll scare 'em off like nothing else could.

And even more fun! Inventing fake endings to really freak them out! Oh, I can already see that this is going to be fun... :cool1:

Another great Dan piece!!

MJ- I ALREADY THOUHT OF THAT SILLY.... NO TP CLOTHES FOR ME... I 've been reading up on European prisons and THe Art of The Bribe !! :upsidedow :upsidedow :upsidedow :upsidedow

PS I have a headache too today- I woke up with it :guilty: I hope it goes away fast I have to make 200 biscotti for a party im going to this afternoon!

Watched Midnight Express recently? I'd be watching the law pretty closely!!

I remember a while back someone was planning on bringing for the men in their families convertible zip pants. Have you purchased them recently? USA, store, on-line? Almost everyone carried them and now I have checked many stores and no one has them or are out of them (at least near where I am). I also saw some on-line - so far - some are nylon, some don't have all three sizes (which means I will have to order from two different places - I want to order three diff. sizes).

Thank you.
I got DH some on clearance at Eddie Bauer. I got DS X 2 some at REI.

HELEN! :yay: This one is for you! :thumbsup2 And for any JD fans out there - this one is for you too!:thumbsup2

I found this on the AOL US version - hottest searched dads: Could be Helen was on to something from the get go! ;)

Who's the Hottest Dad?

Father's Day is today, so it seemed fitting to see who the hottest celebrity dads being searched on AOL Search are. After checking out what people are looking for, the results are not totally what I expected. I mean I guess Dr. Phil is a good father figure, but I did not think that he would beat out Brad Pitt. And hello, where is Ben Affleck?

A bunch of musicians make the list this year and they definitely span the gamut of musical genres from bad boy Eminem to country crooner Brad Paisley. I am glad Matt Lauer made the list because, in my opinion, he is a pretty hot celebrity dad. I also bet that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a good dad to his four children with Maria Shriver, so he deserves to be recognized for it.

Are there any celeb dads that you think should have made the list that did not? Just search for celebrity dads on AOL Search and see.

Top Searched Celeb Dads on AOL Search:
1) Dr. Phil
2) Jon Bon Jovi
3) Johnny Depp
4) Howard Stern
5) Eminem
6) Paul McCartney
7) Brad Pitt
8) Brad Paisley
9) Arnold Schwarzenegger
10) Matt Lauer

I'll go for 2, 3, 7 and 8 - that's it!!

Sounds technical and confusing!!

Andrew, you should take my kids' picture off of page 1- just leave the family one - so there is room for others.

We just bought a laptop too:thumbsup2 . DH insists it's for the cruise:lmao: :lmao: I think that was just an excuse, But I will say it's been great to have when I don't feel like going into my office but want to keep up with the Dis and still have some family contact. Unfortunately, I type much slower and tend to have wrist problems after awhile.

The wireless part is really nice. I can use it anywhere. I haven't tried outside yet but that sounds like a good idea.

I hope all the Dads had a great day!!!

sandra

GOOD MORNING

wow - just got bavck from DL. I was passed over by 4 TRAMS!

I was not a happy camper. Took over 20 minutes to get from Mickey parking structure to DL. Boy was I :furious:

But what was scary was the 2 trams that came withing 5 ft of hitting each other. So I complained. Got a pin out of it!

So I got better. :)

Anyway, I bought me a Mickey Americana Hat at 40% off and DD got me my Evil Queen T-shirt - she said she thought I'd needed it as I was a "Bit Cranky." You think???????? But the t-shirt more than made up for it.

Dreams was canceled due to high winds, but we got to do some last minute pin trading and ride POC. DL has some Disney Dollars that feature the princesses - Ariel, Aurora & Cindy. Guess which one they're out of? Ariel!:headache: Oh! And they have POC ships dollars too. Guess which one they're out of? Black Pearl! :headache:

But DD20 got Empress and another one and other DD got Cindy and Aurora- so back I go on Tuesday to see if the next batch is in. If anyone wants any - let me know. Ariel is in $1, Aurora is in $5 and Cindy is in $10. The ships, I must confess I have no clue but if anyone is interested - let me know. BOards are about to go down. Later all!

Maryann

congratulations on your new lap top -if you used it out side here it would blow! - we've had 5 solid days of rain -weather is more like feb/march - I actually got out my polo jumper

Maryann

Me too, I think I'll be skipping this. - I make door signs but thats about it (and there not very pro)
