Not open for further replies.
Good Morning everyone!! It's Friday Last day of work for a week..........and if I understood Joann correctly a holiday weekend for all of you across the pond too.

After our weeks holiday we have another 7and a half teaching weeks then 2 days later we will be meeting you all on our cruise.

Joann and Andrew, in case I'm not on again before you go have a great time and I'll try to nab a few pirates for this side of the pond while you're gone. I'll have Jo's help now:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Everyone else when you eventually get up.........:rotfl: ..........have a great day and I'll speak to you all later.

Helen we don't get into Barcelona until 7:30pm on the 27th so we won't make dinner but we'll be happy to meet up with you all at the fountain.

We are staying at the Grand Marina pre cruise so we will go there from the airport and if anyone would still like to meet there for a drink and then go to the fountain together to meet the dining gang, we'd be happy to do that.

So at present we have
meeting at 8:00pm at the restaurant OR
meeting at 8:30pm in the Grand Marina Bar
meeting at 10:30pm at the fountains

Is that right?

OK My plans for Memorial Day weekend
get hubby to pick a paint color for mstr bedroom and mstr bathroom
paint a bathroom
cross stitch
paint a bedroom
cross stitch
paint another bathroom
disboards or cross stitch

My hubby's plans for Memorial Day weekend
Play Guild Wars with our two sons
Keep wife from paint store
play ball with boys
keep wife from painting supplies and already bought paint in garage
Play more guild wars
keep wife from car keys
play basketball with boys
duct tape wife to a chair to prevent her from painting anything
wash mom's car (if it's being washed, it can't be used to go buy paint)
give kids paint brushes and paint and threaten wife with 'the only thing getting painted is you'
bbq some fresh alaskan salmon
relax - nothing was painted

I guess we will have to see who wins.

Today  need to pack up the motorhome then hit the open roads (Sounds like I'm doing a thelma & LOuise. Don't worry Im not - i will be back Like Arnie says ;)
Tom & I are are in for dinner. Before the fountain would probably be better so we can hit the ground running the next morning. If I can help you out, I'll be happy to

Maryann
[Could you send me a PM - so I dont lose your name whilst on holiday and the thread adds 100 pages !;) Thanks for the offer of help -If you could remind people next week to PM me if they want to be in on the dinner

I've spent a summer in Ocean City.........the boardwalk............saltwater taffy......the Delaware line..................fishing for croakers and teaching my US friends to paddle (see below)

(PADDLING - this is a British term, I believe after much research the closest you have in meaning is wading, however in Britain if we were wading we would be in deeper water than if we were paddling, our paddling requires no oars or paddles although we do recognise this second meaning of paddling if we are in a canoe. Paddling in Britain is a summer activity often carried out in near freezing water, on a pebbley beach accompanied by various squeaks, screeches and groans. A hankerchief tried in knots in all 4 corners and placed on the head is considered appropriate headwear for this activity, swimwear is optional. Don't panic we don't do that clothing optional stuff here in Britain either, it's too cold! We leave that to our European neighbours, No what I mean is if we don't have our swimwear with us then men roll up their trouser legs and women tuck their skirts into their knickers, the use of any type of water shoe is frowned on as this would mean the infamous British stiff upper lip could not come into play!! This in considered by most to be a very enjoyable activity!!!
Taken from Lynn's Guide on how to look like a native and not a tourist whilst on holiday in Britain):goodvibes

:lmao: :lmao: -I publish the Northern version !

Just reminding you,

Ok - Can we get some discussion going RE Magic fountain -

Summer: May to September
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 20:00 to 00:00 h
Shows with music at: 21:30, 22:00, 22:30, 23:00 and 23:30h

How about we meet at the fountain for the 22:30 - this would be a show with music. It would also be dark then for the lights. Then those who want can meet up beforehand and have a meal @ the 4 cats. ( 8pm) This is just a suggestion. I would be happy to organise the meal.

We could meet at the towers around 22:15 ready for the show.
I am going away on holiday tomorrow and wont be back until Sunday3rd June ( Stop jumping up and down joann !)

I really dont know how Im going to cope without my computer -Im treating it as kind of therapy.

If this plan is acceptable and you want to meet up then, let me know - For those who want to eat @ the 4cats send me a PM telling how many is in your group. When I get everyones reply I will email them and see about getting a reservation.

If any thing important is disscussed - please PM me - theres no need to tell me if andrew is fluffing ( Don't know about USA but in the UK that has another meaning )

I have no hope... no hope... :sad1:

WHAT, DID EVERYONE JUMP SHIP???
Hmmm... a game to play on the Magic?

Just between you and me Sallie, I am a closet Met fan that lives with diehard YANKEE fans. On a positive note, my SIL is a die hard Met fan, too. I grew up as a Met fan and married a Yankee fan. But don't judge him too harshly, he really is a great guy!!!!

Maryann

Dodger Fan here, though I like the Angels, too. However, when it comes to football - I root for any team that plays the Raiders.

Just trying a to sneak in a few extra posts before bed - I actually fell a sleep on the sofa downstairs and I am actually on my way to bed!

I fell asleep in front of my computer the other night. :rolleyes1

Ok - Can we get some discussion going RE Magic fountain -

Summer: May to September
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 20:00 to 00:00 h
Shows with music at: 21:30, 22:00, 22:30, 23:00 and 23:30h

Sounds like a great idea.

FINALLY, the Brits are off!!!:goodvibes Tech trouble tonight or I would have been on sooner......yikes...............I stopped by during school (my lunch hour, of course!!;) )

I'm starting to get bummed that we can't meet everyone at "the fountain!"............how does everyone feel about....maybe wearing the necklaces (glow in the dark) on departure day? That way if we see each other (and we haven't met yet) we can say "Hello" before our Sunday meet?

And....where do you get those necklaces????:confused3

Fun idea! They sell them at party stores. We got lime-green ones for a meet at Disneyland one time.

I had a second visit with the surgeon (sorry to those who have no idea what I'm talking about......) and he said I don't have to have surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy...................so it's full steam ahead for the WDW HM!!!

Congratulations! What wonderful news!

My name is Leslie. I used to call my kids my kidcoos and there are 3 of them - therefore, kidcoos3. The kids I'm hiding from are anywhere from 18 to 50 - so they are probably hiding things from me too:rolleyes1

I love the restaurant idea - but I have 3 kids - not sure their palate is worth big bucks - not actually sure that my husband's palate is worth big bucks either so, we'll see. What is everyone else with kids thinking??

Well, mine are 18 & 19, and I think it would be a good experience for all of us.

I LOVE Sue Ellen from Dreams....she has done some amazing things for us over the years!! If you want her e-mail address, I can get it for you.

She's great. A real expert. :)

Okay it is 7:20 pm here and I told the family we are leaving for the beach at 8pm ... it is about a 3 hour drive with out traffic. I was hoping for rush hour to be over before we started out....., guess I should go pack.....don't need much!!
Lisa

Have fun at the beach!

Now is anyone else finding it funny to write Will Smith? I keep getting a visual of The Prince of Bel Air instead of Orlando - And he's just blooming gorgeous.

And on that note - DD20 went to see POC 1, 2, & 3 at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. They want me to go see AWE (3) but I hate to drive down there. Am I nuts?

Shouldn't it be Will Turner instead of Will smith? (am I missing something here?)
And what does nuts have to do with it? :rotfl: I'll be there on Sunday!

Just talking to a friend and me insisted on having adjoining rooms so there goes any chance of us upgrading!

DUMMY! DUMMY! DUMMY!

Notice they are in all caps?

More for me.

You'll probably have more fun being with connecting rooms. I lucked out & got room 6134, which is a Cat 6 room, categorized as a Cat 7. I am so looking forward to sitting out on our verandah. :)

I'm almost ashamed to say it, but I got a tremendous rate on a cat 12 GTY and did in fact get the secret porthole room (5020) . . . I think my TA, who is a saint and a Disney specialist, called inventory control and asked for some pixie dust, because I also got a secret porthole room on the Aug 18 repo (also on a cat 12 GTY rate). I know, I know, tremendous luck and I hope you get an even better assignment -- maybe a cat 5 or 6!

Congratulations! That is really a great stroke of luck, and a sweet deal for the cruise.

Ok, I looked at the ship tracker and it was last showing the Magic not too far from Barcelona at 2am (not sure of the time zone).

Here's the schedule:
Wednesday: Gibraltar, UK 8:00 AM 5:30 PM
Thursday: At Sea
Friday: Barcelona, Spain 11:00 AM Overnight
Saturday: Debark Barcelona 6:45 AM

So they will be in Barcelona tommorrow.
Seems like it went to fast.

It's hard to believe. I know a couple of people who are on that cruise. I can hardly wait to hear from them how they enjoyed it.

NOpe - it was Julie! Major pirate ! 1 1

Congrats, Julie!

Isn't like 65 DAYS before we are on the MAGIC.

Wooo -- Sio excited!!

We are leaving for the beach tonight for the long weekend (Memorial Day Weekend).

www.bethanycam.com is the web cam.....watch how crowded it gets this weekend. Our weather on the East Coast is awesome!!! Need to go pack

Have a great time!

Good news for me today -- the only thing I had actually booked on the Med cruise was a private driver for the LaSpezia stop . . . I researched all kinds of things (how to get to Florence and Pisa by train, how to rent a car and drive there myself, etc.) and had decided that with that strange port if I wanted my girls to see Florence AND Pisa I would have to hire a driver. At any rate, I had the driver for Aug. 14, and reservations at Accademia and the Uffizi. I emailed last night to see if I could get the same for Aug. 4 now that I am on this cruise, knowing that it was (relatively speaking) last minute . . . and found out today that they can drive me and I now have reservations for what I wanted to see on Aug. 4. Then I found out later last night that I was assigned a secret porthole room . . . so I'm feeling lucky indeed!

It looks like everything is coming together for you nicely. (cool)

Andrew,
What are the Dis guidelines for banners?

Graphics in a signature cannot exceed 50kb and cannot be bigger than 550x200 pixels. There cannot be more than 3 graphics in each siggy.

MAGICMED.png

You can see Majorca (Mallorca)where I will be this Saturday. Barcelona is just above Majorca.

Thanks for the map. I spent a week in Mallorca years ago. We rented a little Seat that was so slow it stalled going up a hill, and we had to turn it around & go down again to get it started --- ah, good times.

I just counted !

I have 8 pirate: and 1 major pirate:

(I really need to get a life)

You pirate you. :)

RE: Magic fountain meeting place

I have had some great responses from the ? in cruise critic

you walk past the two brick towers near the exposition center ( i think it's called Avegnuda - "Avenue in English" - Reina M. Cristina) towards the Palau Nacional museum (which will be lit up at night-possibly with moving colored "laser lights" behind it). The Font Monjuic (Magic Fountains) is located up a staircase which can also be reached using a set of escalators that cross the street. That will be the major attraction in the area so most crowds will be heading towards it.

As for a meeting place, you can choose one of the two aforementioned towers - pick either the left or right one (facing away from the statue which is directly on the mini traffic circle on Plaza Espanya) because with the crowds you may not see each other - or you can send a scout over to the other tower periodically to locate your group.

There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. Ave Paral-lel has several restaurants and taparias that have outdoor seating. Friday and Saturday nights are definitely busier since most Europeans stay up very late. We had dinner at several restaurants but did not sit at the outdoor cafes because of the cigarette smoke.

In response to Ms Understood, the Font Motjuic is similar to a small-scale water show at Las Vegas' Bellagio Hotel complete with lights and music. I believe it is similar to a water show at Victoria's Butchart Gardens (if memory serves). Lots of families as well as tourists enjoy this free, outdoor activity. We stayed at a nearby hotel so we watched the show on both Saturday and Sunday night.

No need of locals with such a good information!!
The only thing to point is thet you can reach Plaza Espanya by red and also green metro line and many buses too.
I was also thincking on the towers to meet. They are a reproduction of the Venitian tower.

This is a picture of the towers
towerfountain.jpg

Should we meet next to the tower on the right as we are walking up to it?

This is such a great idea!

We are also flying the day we sail (I'm alittle nervous!) I'm a "Jo" too....any others??? So far there's been a fair amount of "Lisa"s but only one Helen!:hippie:

My family calls me Jo. Most of my friends call me MJ. My little nephews (ex sis in law's boys) call me Auntie Jo. :goodvibes

I love izzy and bella
I think I'm going to name my next dog "Marisol", I believe its spanish. I really like that name.

It's a popular name in Spanish - Mary+sun - and is probably a derivative of the name María del Sol (Mary of the Sun).

So excited we only booked two days ago, didn't think we would make it,there are 7 in our party and it was difficult to get a date that suited everyone.
Let me introduce everyone
me - Jo ,4th Disney cruise, 18th cruise in total
husband - Brian , same cruise history as me
my niece - Maria , 2nd Disney cruise
her husband - Richard ,2nd Disney cruise
daughters - Harriet , Phoebe,Hermione ,2nd Disney cruise

My husband and I are from the north of England, my niece and her family are fron Cambridgeshire, we will be flying from three airports to meet up in Barcelona to board the ship.

Have not read through all the posts yet but sure I'll find the answer to all my questions.

Congratulations on your cruise & welcome to the DIS! I'm travelling w/my two older teens (19 & 18)

OMG, just finished watching the season finale of Lost, OMG
Tonight is the season finale of LOST. Is anyone else addicted?

The commercials are driving me crazy!! I'm so glad to have this to distract me.

S.

I'ms so tempted to get the dvd's & download them to my computer & watch the movies on the plane! I never watched the series.

I was going to try for a taxi at the port, but if I didn't like the people or the prices, would just take the train. You are correct that you may or may not be able to find a taxi for 5, but you can walk from the port to the train station and it looks to me like a very short ride to Cala Sabina beach (15 minutes, maybe?).

I'm sure people will post what they did in Sardinia over the next several weeks, as well.

I'm looking forward to reading reports, too. I don't have any excursions because I figured we would need some down time, but it would be nice to go someplace special.

us too - my kids are so ready for this. their poor teachers. they hear about it all the time, but they wont get to read the 'what did you do over the summer' essays.

My dd is concentrating on graduating next month. My ds is in SD, so at this time I seem to be the only one who is demonstrating excitement in our household!

Ok, I got 3 checks today, from Jlawall, MrsG and danfromca.
Will update lanyard post.

Check's in the mail (always wanted to say that ;) )

Hi again

I was looking at the 4cats restaurant and the magic fountain and then I was wondering about how to get from 1 to other and if it was possible.

I came across this website http://www.tmb.net/vullanar/en_US/vullanar.jsp

It was so good - it will draw a plan out and you can even see your journey
3d.

The journey time would take 26 mins Walk to metro @ Catalunya (take line 3) and get off 5 stops later @ Espanya

Seemingly its a 10 min walk from 4cats to Catalunya and 5 mins when we get off.

Its another suggestion anyhow - I am just so pleased I found this website!

Thank you!

Metro travel cards

See here - you can buy in advance and get them sent to your home address

http://www.tmb.net/en_US/home.jsp

Great idea!

One of our friends was killed in the Pentagon on 9/11 and he was buried at Arlington. It is the most reverant (sp?) and holy and patriotic of places. The site where he was buried (you don't get to pick...everyone is assigned in the section currently being filled) looked right at the hole in the Pentagon that was made by the plane. From where I was standing, I could have thown a rock and hit the Pentagon. It was so sad.

The Eternal Flame (where John F Kennedy and his children) are buried...is really cool. Also the Tomb of the Unknown Solider is also awesome. I would suggest this visit...if you have time.

http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/jfk.htm

http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/tombofun.htm

Sorry to read about your friend. I can only imagine how special that that place is. Someday I'll go there.

Okay, all - off to bed for me. Early early morning for me!

:lmao: :lmao:

Thank you I'll try and rest but still no Ofsted visit (nearly 7 years) and a school improvement plan to write means I must work.. I think I might be sleeping through the first week of the cruise.

Still plenty of time to lurk on the boards I'll try and Pm you a daily summary would that help!!! 7 days of posts

Good luck - :pixiedust: for the dreaded O word

Thanks a daily summary would be great !!!

ok I'm off to work now, I'll leave you two to fight over the next pirate unless Mary Jo is lurking out there on the West coast before she hits the hay!
