July 2007 Consumer Reports...

Yes, but is that the best way to create a review for that market? If I knew nothing about a subject, I'd rather have an expert in the subject write a review geared towards a novice than having a novice try to do the review.

Maybe not best, but IMO it is very adequate for its purpose. They open the box with the same knowledge that the average consumer might, nothing more. I dont think a person that will be keeping the camera on full auto and printing jpegs at Walmart without any editing really needs a review full of pixel peeping at high ISOs and speed tests.

I do not think they are "enthusiast" level experts on any of the products they review. Every time they do Car tests I am sure car forums all over the net are laughing, same with any video/audio products(take sharks example).

Consumer Reports is pretty much good for lining bird cages and wrapping fish in my opinion (and has been that way long before I've seen anything they've done on cameras.)
I second that. My eyes were opened to CR's methods back when my Dad worked for Nikon. He was floored when CR opted to take their lens test photos with the cameras handheld!!! They argued that "that was the way that consumers would likely use the lenses, so that's how we decided to test them!"
