July 15, 2013- WONDER if a Mickey Bar will melt in Alaska?

Hello and welcome! How did the little ones do? My kids will be 2.75 and 17 months when we sail. I am nervous about sleeping all together and meals! We do plan to put them in the nursery for a few meals to give us, them and my in-laws a little break. My son (the older one) is super go with the flow and I know he will be totally fine and happy with any nursery time (although he may want to go into the Club... but his sister will be in the nursery and no idea if he will be potty trained by then to even make it an option). My daughter is only 8 months now, but she also doesn't really have stranger or seperation anxiety yet- so hopefully she will love it in there too! We will do one of the train excursions in Skagway which my son will be bonkers for!

We have hotels booked but not flights. Our plan is to fly into Seattle on July 12 from Baltimore and then take the train to Vancouver on July 14.

Glad to see everyone's messages.
To answer the question about how the kids liked the trip--They LOVED every minute of it. We chased Disney characters all over the ship. The Club for the little ones was really great. We took the train ride and it was wonderful. They had fun at all the meals. But they all were a bit mad at us for going back to Alaska the next year without them.

To the folks leaving from Memphis: We live 15 minutes south of Memphis in MS!! We drove cross-country the last 2 years to meet the Wonder. We will do the same in 2013. It takes us about a week on the road, and we like it better than flying. How close to Memphis do you live? :flower3:

We are a little further south of you ( Pontotoc Ms.) Good to know we will have some neighbors on board. This is all new to us, never been on a cruise, and most of our vacations were spent in Gatlinburg or the coast. I wanted to do something different next year and Alaska is what we decided on. Would love to have any suggestion or advise you might have. It will be my wife and myself (mid 40's) our youngest daughter 20 and a granddaughter who is 7

I was to see my best friend who lives in Seattle but she is not going to be there so will fly into Seattle on Saturday and take the train on Sunday and t hen the bus on the way back.

My husband, my in-laws, and I will be joining you all for this cruise. We just booked our room yesterday. :) We went on our 1st cruise with DCL to Alaska on the Wonder in August and fell in love with cruising. We have been missing being on the ship and are happy to be going again.:cheer2:

Yep I will be on this rise also. 2nd back to Alaska. Can't wait to go back.
:goofy:

Thinking of booking this cruise. It will be me and my 6yo son. Calling DVC member services today to see how many points it will cost me for an inside.

Welcome! I am excited to see so many repeat Alaska cruisers. It must be a great trip if so many people want to do it again! I updated the first post with a roll call- let me know if I missed anything or you want me to add something!

luv2sleep- we are DVC members too with Aulani being our home resort. We are not sailing on points and have only been members for about 1.5 years, but we are loving it so far! I am going on a girlfriend DL trip next weekend on my points. :cool1: My husband went to Alaska to fish last summer, leaving me for 5 days with our then 23 month old and 5 month old. After that trip I booked mine, although I am sure his time will be easier than mine- or at least that is what I tell him. But, they are 2 and 9 months now, and sleeping through the night- so that right there is easier, right!

I'm new too. Just had a day stay at Aulani so far. My son is little and it's just the two of us. The cruise is so much easier for me as a single parent than a park or resort vacation so I'm going to just do another cruise instead next year. Well I'm going to do two! I will be on the Fantasy in Sept.

we enjoyed ourselves on the first cruise. thats why we are going back a second time. alaska is a great time and place to go to. you will love the cruise. its a great relaxing time on the ship. thats why we are going back on a second alaska cruise.

Any of you sail in an inside stateroom? I am usually a verandah person but I know we won't be in the room a ton. My son will hang with me a little but I will likely have to find fun things to do with him because he won't want to watch scenery all day. He doesn't nap and it's not a long cruise so I'm thinking we will be ok in an inside. I can't decide. What do you all think?

we had an inside stateroom. the room was roomy for me and my wife. we were at the back of the ship by the stablizers. there was one ight we had a bumpy night sleep on the 7 day trip. we have an inside stateroom for this trip also. we are staying in the same room as our last trip. we like an inside state room.

Good to hear. I was worried I be missing something we passed by when we woke up. Aside from Tracy Arm day is there much to see on your way between ports while at sea?

The inside stateroom, was great for us, because Alaska in July stays light outside until 11pm or midnight. With having no window we didn't have to worry bout light shining in and keeping us awake at night:goofy:

Anyone sail inside with young children? I haven't booked yet because I can't afford a verandah. My son isn't going to want to be out on deck with me all day and I am not going to want to ship him to the clubs all day. I still want to see stuff though so I think a verandah will be better so he can have downtime/playtime while I still get to enjoy the scenery.

We got a verandah because we will have at least one still napping so we figured one of us could sit and watch the world go by while DD naps. I hadn't really thought about the light issue- hopefully it isn't too bad. My kids go to bed at 7:00 normally and for 3-4 months it is still light out when they go to bed.

Wow! Great to see more people are on our same cruise!!
We're flying from Dallas to Seattle and then taking the train. We're not sure if we'll go a week early or stay a week late...depends on the baseball schedule...we want to see a game...hopefully the Texas Rangers playing Seattle!!
We'd love to do the Fish Extenders too!! We had so much fun doing it on our last cruise.

We would also love to do a FE! I don't mind coordinating it, but being our first cruise, if someone who, you know, knows what they are doing wants to head it up- that's cool too! ;)

Anyone looking at excursions yet?
