We just returned from the July 1st western on the Magic and it was wonderful.

We flew down on Friday and stayed at the Embassy Suites. Definitely a good idea to arrive a day ahead. We were picked up at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday by FL Tours. The driver came early for us and even had Disney dvd's for the kids to watch during the ride. We Would use this company again.
Arrived at the port just before 10:00. Check-in was a breeze with no lines because of early arrival. We recieved boarding #2. It was great hearing our names announced as we boarded!

We immediately went to Rockin Bar D to change our Palo reservation with no problem. If you can't get a reservation online, you can get one when you get on the ship. We were also able to change our dining rotation. This is why it's good to arrive early if possible. We were told our room would be ready at 1:30, so we had lunch at Topsiders, explored the ship, and let the kids explore the oceaneer lab for a while. We found a great spot on deck to watch the shuttle launch, but it was scrubbed. I guess some things are out of Disney's control.

The room was ready right on schedule, and the luggage followed shortly after. We had the early dinner seating at 5:45. It was good for the kids, but a little later would have been better. Our dining rotation was PLA. Our servers were Sachin and Gigi. They were fantastic! Very attentive and doting over the kids. They knew us by name by the end of our first seating. Sachin would personally greet us at the restaurant entrance and escort us to our table. By the end of the week we felt like we were leaving good friends. The food was very good, some things better than others. Sachin was always bringing extra entree's and desserts whether we ordered them or not. While on board, it was my neice's birthday and they brought her a beautiful cake, had her stand on the chair and serenaded her with happy birthday. Dinner on some nights also came with entertainment from the servers! Pirate night was fun, with the servers and guests doing the limbo in the dining room! They provide bandanas at dinner for Pirate night, but I would suggest bringing additional pirate garb at least for the kids(adults too) because they do take pictures before dinner. The Animator's Palate dinner show was wonderful. It included characters, music and the famous "color change". It was fun to dress up on formal night. Mostly everyone we saw got into the spirit of the evening, including many in tuxedo's and gowns. Pictures were taken before dinner. I would recommend arriving at least 1/2 hour early for this. The farewell dinner was sad, as we had to say goodbye to our serving team. All of the servers paraded around the dining room with flags of the world to "It's a small world". The guests stood and cheered for their servers. It was a lot of fun.

Do not miss dining at Palo! It is an amazing experience. If possible, ask for Marco as your server. There is no one better. He brought 7 entrees and 7 desserts for only 4 of us. Dining was 2&1/2 hours and we enjoyed every minute of it. Our travel agent from AAA sent us a bottle of Merlot and we enjoyed it with dinner. The best meal of the week by far!

Our room host Benny, kept our room spotless and our kids entertained with his amazing towel animals. Anything we needed he provided. No matter what time we were coming in and out, we saw him close-by. We don't know if he ever slept?

Night time entertainment shows were good and not to be missed. Michael Harrison the ventriloquist was hilarious, my kids loved him. We all laughed so hard. We also saw Rich Purpura do the family show and adult comedy show. Both were hilarious. The Golden Mickey's, Twice Charmed, and the farewell show were all great too. There were always character greets all around the ship from morning to night. There was also a character breakfast where they came to each and every table for pictures and autographs. The pirate night party was okay with a 45 minute dance party out on deck, followed by
fireworks and a late night buffet.

Key West was brutally hot, humid and over crowded. We decided not to book an excursion but just walk around on our own. It was hard for the kids to walk around in the heat. The dads did make it to the southern most point on foot, but it was a much longer walk than the locals would have you believe. Stick to Duval street for good shopping.

Next was Grand Cayman. This is the place for more high end shopping. We booked the seven-mile beach break excursion and really enjoyed it. You are provided by Disney with chairs , umbrellas, and towels, on a private beach area. Lunch was not included , but there was an outdoor eatery just steps away, right on the beach. Sandwiches, hot dogs, sodas for 4, ran us $50. Ouch! The beach was beautiful ,though. It was a 3 hour excursion.

We decided to do Cozumel on our own, just some shopping and walking. We did not like it. Very aggressive vendors. You couldn't even stop to look at something without being constantly harrassed to buy. A sightseeing excursion probably would have been better time spent.

Castaway Cay was great. Beautiful beach, and a great lunch provided by Cookies. We rented floats and lounged in the water for hours. Be sure to re-apply your sunscreen as we all burned a little. My kids loved seeing the Flying Dutchman.

The kids spent very little time in the clubs as there was a little too much "free time". Although, they did enjoy making flubber and going on a scavenger hunt. I think they enjoyed the pools and slide the best.

There was always something going on throughout the day and night. A lot of activities for everyone. The navigator is very valuable to help you plan your day. We carried it with us and highlighted what we wanted to do that day.

Disney made July 4th fun with a special menu and the Captain coming into the dining room to lead a champagne toast. There was also a 4th of July deck party featuring the characters in patriotic costumes. It put us in the spirit of the day. Overall, the entire staff made us feel like v.i.p.s. The ship was spotless. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. This trip exceeded all of our expectations as Disney always does. Can't wait to go back!

Thank you for the the quick feedback! I am leaving in 3 more lonnnng weeks on te Western also and cannot wait! Although I have been on the Wonder not quite 2 years ago, it feels like it's gonna be the first Disney cruise ever. It seems like there is so much I want to see and do, not sure if I will get much rest!

Sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing your trip report with us!

Hi,

We were on the cruise, too. I thought I'd add a couple of things...

The frozen key lime pie on a stick covered with chocolate from the Blond Giraffe on Key West was as good as rumored. They also have a kick *** limeaid.

We took the 11:15 Seaworld Semi Sub at Grand Cayman and loved it. When we got off the tender at 10:45 it was pouring, so we ducked in a nearby shop and got lots of Tortuga rum cakes. Then we waited under a crowded tent to hand in our wavers. Then we went into another little shop where we exchanged our tickets for boarding passes. Soon we boarded the Semi-Sub. Underwater the rain doesn't matter! It had a comfortable bench in front of huge windows where we could see many wonderful tropical fish and coral reefs. They sent down a diver to feed the fish, which was fun as all fish surrounded her as she circled the sub. Definitely recommended. And by the time it was over, it had stopped raining.

We went on the Tulum ruins tour with our 9 year old and 12 year old. A lot has been said about the ferry to the mainland. Yes, it's bouncy. And I was concerned, because I get motion sick. But, I had arranged for a scope patch, fed my husband and older daughter dramamine non-drowsy, and my younger daughter dramamine original, and none of us were queasy, much less nausuous. To be fair, it may have been a good crossing- a couple of barf bags were handed out, but I didn't see any used.

I know the Tulum ruins tour isn't recommended as much for kids as young as ours. Our youngest didn't get as much out of it as I hoped- but that was more because it was boiling hot and a the beach we were going to next was visible, than that the material was too hard. Actually, I think I lost my husband partway to peering at the beach, too. They gaves us a 30 minute historical tour, and then we had two hours to look more at the ruins on our own, or go to the beach. We had a great time at the beach. Actually, you could see kind of see the ruins from the beach... It was a bit far to go for a beach day, but we did see the ruins and hear an informative talk, so I can't complain. We did walk past the ruins afterwards in our wet swim suits, cooling us down, which was kind of nice. Other details- lunch was subway subs, mexican cheetos and muffins on the bus. There was a stop at a nice souvenir stand on the way over with very good bathrooms. Always take the tram to the ruins once you get to Tulum. Some of party chose the 15 minute walk, and I wasn't impressed by their machismo. But then, they weren't trying to impress me. It cost $2 for adults, and later we (and our tour guide) found that it was included in our tour, so they refunded our money without our even asking.

We had a great time! We're looking forward to our next cruise.

Hi-We were on this cruise too. Too much laundry to do, to do a trip report, but here are my highlights:

The pastries at Cove Cafe enjoyed by the adult pool. Disney does such a good job of providing a variety of areas and activities for all ages!

The yoga class on the Key West morning on deck 7 aft. Lovely!

Loved the Ariel screen and watching Nemo on it-great sound quality!

Loved the new fruit and panini area-new since we've been on last

Loved sailing away from Castaway and reflecting on all the fun we had had

Love deck 4----in the morning for walking-----quiet and relaxing during the day and in the evening the atmosphere out there before or after a show is so romantic!

Enjoyed our excursions -did Aquaboats on GC-kids 13 and up could drive with an adult (which they liked!) and the snorkeling was nice--nice relaxed pace for the snorkeling and some fun, fast boat driving :)
Did Tulum also-it was hot, but I wanted to see the ruins-the beach was a nice relief.
In Key West my husband and 13 yr olds did the trolley and museum and aquarium--all 3 really enjoyed it (they are all history buffs)

This was our third time on Castaway, but yet my first time going beyond the family beach! There's always so much fun to be had, but this time I ventured further...loved the bike riding, my mom enjoyed her cabana massage a lot, we liked the games at Groupers-the giant connect four game was cool and made a cute picture! :)

the comedians and ventiloquest were excellent!!!

Our servers Sunny and Ricardo were a great team and made every meal special!

I think we've all developed OCD for handwashing though, on the way home we stopped at McDonalds and I was waiting for my hand wipe--Where was it? :confused3 Oh well, back to the dirty real world :surfweb:

Two silling things I never had time to do....play ping pong with my family and have a cheeseburger on board--so many other yummy things, but they sure looked good :) Guess there's always next time. :)

I really enjoyed these boards in preparing for the trip and appreciate all the people that write great trip reports!

Disneydmbnut.....great pictures...Loved the one of the ship sailing away with the clouds and sun great pic.

I'll add my 2 cents also -
GC - We did the Nativeway rays, Reef and Rum Point tour and it was excellent. There were only 15 of us along with Chris and Solomon and the camera guy - forget his name. They stopped and Solomon dove down to get starfish to see and touch. We were in our own little space to snorkle in w/o all the crowds. We saw the big rain clouds over George Town but never got rained on! I would highly recommend these guys.

We also did the Tulum ruins and my 9 and 10 yr olds liked it - except for the heat. We kept telling them - it's Mexico in July, what so you expect?! I did think the stop right before we got there was unneeded - more a tourist trap than anything. It's not like there weren't bathrooms at the ruins site. We bought some things at the shops at the tram - bartered to where I felt good although we probably still paid too much! We got 2 of those hammock chairs and have been enjoying them today.

Todayray - I was also at the yoga class - except for the rain sprinkles I liked it - could've been longer, but it was a fun way to get the cruise started.

Parasailing at Castaway was awesome. My dd 10 yr old wants to do it again.

We also enjoyed the big screen by the pool - that was a great add from the last time.

Agus, our server, was awesome - he kept bringing food also.

Michael Harrison was great. All the entertainment was great.
Palo was too good - I've never eaten so much in my life. Brunch was better than dinner! We loved Don from Turkey.

Abby (10) loved the lab and esp Ocean Quest. She made lots of friends and was always on the go. Trent (9) had fun but doesn't warm up to others quite so fast so mostly did stuff on his own. He liked going to Ocean Quest when he could. Abby was all over the fact that her age group could go alot and Trent couldn't as much. They both liked free time as they like to play on the computers. They loved making the movies in Ocean Quest and driving the simulator.

We booked again - probably won't go for 3 years, but we'll get the deal anyways - just have to keep moving the date.

The kids made their own versions of towel animals for us today - cute. I still had to make dinner and my house is not nearly as clean as the ship. And no hand wipes at the door! :rolleyes1

Can't wait to go back - thanks for all the help here!

We were on the cruise too!!!! I'll just echo everyone else and say it was GREAT!!!

A bit sad that the space shuttle launch was scrubbed on our sail-away day . . we were up on Deck 10, waiting, waiting, waiting as they held the countdown at 9 mins. So sad they finally scrubbed for an incoming thunderstorm. Our son, 11, asked why they couldn't just hurry up and send the shuttle up, before the storm hit!

Other than that, the cruise was FANTASTIC!!!! Great perks with the timing of this week . . . 4th of July celebration, and I can't believe no one has mentioned . . . .

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST Prem-EAR AT SEA!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We saw the 12:01 show . . . what an experience!!! We LOVED the movie, and Rachel, the Cruise Director, likened it to the World Cup in terms of excitement!!! A truly once-in a lifetime experience that we will never forget!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Another note about the magicians/comedians on the ship . . . they were hilarious!!

Did anyone see Michael Harrison's 6:15 show on Sunday? The one where he had the boy and the girl on stage, and the ropes that went "through" the boy's stomach, and was supposed to shoot his belly button out into the audience?

THE BOY WAS OUR SON MARK!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

We were on that cruise, too. How lucky did we get with the 4th of July celebration, the PremEAR of POC2, pirate: the Flying Dutchman, and the weather. :sunny:

Here are our highlights:

On Day one, we got there early (card 3), went to the Goofy Pool to lay out and watch the space shuttle (didn't go as you all know). Fun, though. The sailaway party was cool, except we didn't get to sailaway! We had to wait for people stuck in the shuttle traffic. A little disappointed b/c my fav part is sailing down that canal, but I lived.

Our servers were Pairoj and Leslie. They were just awesome! Pirate night had the best food out of the rotations.

Palo was of course amazing! I've read on here about Marco, and guess what? We actually got him! He was awesome. He brought us out 2 pizzas b4 we ordered anything and then brought us 5 courses, including 7 desserts and 2 to bring back to our room. Talk about stuffed, yet we kept on eating. Palo is a definite "not to miss."

The food everywhere was just awesome. We couldn't stop eating. I even tried seafood (which I don't like). I think I now like shrimp scampe, but I'm not sure the type.

We decided we got the coolest towel animals. Our guy made them out of our towels and our blanket. We got a nurse shark, a sea urchent, a leaning tower of pisa, and my fav, an elephant (among more things).

The shows were awesome, too. Twice Charmed was probably my least favorite, while Disney Dreams was my fav. My DH's fav was Golden Mickeys.

We really loved all the entertainment. Rich Purpura, the magician, was our favorite. Michael Harrison, the vantriloquist, was very funny. We saw their adult shows and were in stitches. :rotfl2: :stitch: pun intented

The Quiet Cove pool is just the best. It's so nice being able to sit in that water around the edge. Very refreshing.

4th of July was so fun! We had a 4th of July sailaway party at GC and we had a huge balloon drop in the atrium. It was really neat.

Pirates night pirate: was so cool. The fireworks were awesome, the spread for the buffet was just amazing to look at.

Oh, and how about POC2? popcorn:: We went there for the 12:01 showing, and it was just so awesome! It was very dark and totally left you hanging. We were going to get a seat at about 1130, and my dad went up to just check it out at about 1100 and it was already about 3/4 full! So we hurried up there and got good seats. It was just amazing to see that as not only one of the first people in the world, but also for free!

Castaway Cay was amazing. I guess we got lucky b/c the weather was great and I guess it poured down rain there the day before. The Flying Dutchman was so cool, especially since we had just seen it in the movie the night before. My advice for Castaway Cay: get a float for the water. It was heavenly. My DH and I wish we would have done the stingrays here too. Guess that something we'll do next time.

Favorite port (besides Castaway Cay, you can't count that, it's in its own category :) ): Key West. My DH and I are definitely planning on staying there in the future.

Favorite activity: swimming with stingrays at Grand Cayman. Amazing!

Favorite overall excursion: Fury Sail and Snorkel in Cozumel. Even though it rained, it was so cool. I can't imagine what it's like when it's sunny! If you like to do waverunners, do it here. We got 1/2 hour for only $40!

Our secrets:

Diversions. We'd go there for about an hour a night, play cards, watch sports, and have nachos and wings. It was very quiet, empty, and relaxing. I highly recommend it.

On Deck 9 by Cove Cafe and the Quiet Cove pool on the Port side are 3 double loungers with cushions. My DH and I found one, sat there and just talked and slept as we looked out at the beautiful (even though it was damaged) port of Cozumel.

Be down on deck 1 b4 the doors open for Castaway Cay. You'll get a choice of pretty much any seat you want on the island.

Go to the pool on the first day. There's no one there, esp. at the Quiet Cove pool. However, the Quiet Cove Pool seems to fill up the fastest on sea days, so go there early.

Went so fast, so savor every moment! :tigger: :mickeyjum

OK, BCV2002, I have to ask: How in the world did you get down to the doors to Castaway Cay BEFORE they opened, if you were at the 12:01 show of POTC: Dead Man's Chest the night before?

Did you get, like 3 hours of sleep?

We couldn't crawl out of bed until about 10 on Friday . . .

LOL! We took like a 1/2 hour nap b4 the show and then, I don't know? Breakfast at Topsiders helped, I guess. :)

Actually, we're Disney nuts, and I'm used to being an anal freak about getting to places early in the morning (ex: getting up for the Magic Kingdom at 630 am when I was up until 1200 the night before. My advice: afternoon naps by the pool, or beach, in this instance).

Thanks everyone for the great reports on your trip! I love hearing about it all - we'll be going next month! Can anyone tell me if the Margaritaville on Grand Cayman has opened yet?

I have something to add to the POC screening. We had the 8:30 dining. People were camping outside the WD theater when we passed it. Went to the room and took maybe 1/2 hour nap. We left our room at 11:30. Me in pj's, ds5 in pjs and dh in shorts. Captain Jack Sparrow was out taking pictures. Of course there was no way in creation I was buying that hideous photo with us in pj's, but it was fun. It was PACKED!!!! My always late family couldn't get in and we had to sit a row behind dh. Everybody had blankets and pillows. Lots of people had plates of desserts from the buffet. Big cheers went up when it started. Do you know some nut was upset there were no previews?

Hey, your son Mark did a great job!!! I love that they pick kids for all that fun stuff.

Thanks, mattmommy!!! I am so sad we didn't have a better way of figuring out who the DIS'ers were on the cruise!!! I would have loved to meet you and your family . . . and I am still curious about your eyelash perm!!

During the show with Mark onstage, do you remember a crazy person running out of the theater, and returning about 5 minutes later with a video camera? THAT WAS ME!! Of course, the show our kid was picked for, we forget to bring our cameras!!!

We LOVED the POC Prem-EAR too!!! DD said it was the highlight of the cruise. The excitement, the anticipation, the sheer fun of being part of such an event was great!!! Mark asked if the "real" Capt. Jack Sparrow (ie. Johnny Depp) would be there . . . but I said I didn't think so. (But what a thrill that would have been if Johnny and his family were on our cruise, don't you think???)
