we are leaving in 12 days, what have they been doing lately with the sign ups?

The sign up is just past Hollywood & Vine between it and Indiana Jones. They do allow sign ups before park opens, but I'm not sure if they let anyone in or if it is just those there for a pre-opening breakfast. They were full by 10:10 when we had to report back for my son to partake in it. This was last Monday.

We were at Hollywood Studios yesterday. Got to the park around 8:15, and they started letting people into the park around 8:40. We went directly to jedi training sign up and were about 30 groups back. No problem getting the time we wanted and the whole thing took about 20 minutes. I heard the line got as long as one hour. Hope this helps.

Great information here.....thanks :yoda: Curious what time was the park scheduled to open? We're planning on my nephew doing this training in November...........and this type of info is great for planning :)

This is an observation from a distance, so take it for what it's worth.

On our recent trip (week after Easter) DHS was scheduled to open at 9 AM, and we arrived about 8:10. There were people lining up for JTA signup at the gate to the far left. Sometime before 8:30 they led those people into the park and they made the turn in the direction of the JTA signup location. At about 8:30, they opened up the gates to all guests, and everyone who entered was held at a rope a ways down Hollywood Boulevard. At about 8:35, CM's led the assembled crowd down Hollywood Boulevard behind the rope. As we approached the intersection of Sunset Boulevard we saw a small group of people standing behind a rope to the left of the street, and that group was allowed to merge in with the larger group as it reached that point. My guess is that that was a group that had already completed the JTA signup.

My observation from that would be that if someone wants to sign up for JTA without missing the first wave to a popular attraction (most notably TSMM), they should arrive the better part of an hour before park opening and locate the line for JTA signup. That should get you a reasonably quick in and out signup with the best choice of times.

Maybe someone who has actually gone through the signup process can confirm or refute this. Maybe they only do it this way on busier days.

We were there on the 18th - arrived shortly after 8 and were about three people back in line to enter park. They let us in about 840. It was a mad dash to the sign ups. Stood in line for about 20 -30 minutes at sign up and pretty much had our choice for shows. We wanted a later show so that maybe the light sabers would be lit up (in April this wasn't the case for the 710 show but we wanted to make Fantasmic so...). We were told to arrive a half hour prior to our show time, they had the kids pick a circle to stand on. Then they lined everyone up by height smallest to tallest. Our kids were in the line closest to the store/sign up place and they fought Vader. Not sure if that is always the case, it seemed that day that the littler kids got Vader. Once the kids got their robes on I went and positioned myself to get a good show spot while my husband stayed with the kids to walk over. Hope that helps!

The park was scheduled to open at 9:00. They opened the gates between 8:30 and 8:40. When we arrived at our scheduled time, they had the kids sit on circles and that determined what group they were in. If you are looking at the kids, the group on the left fought Darth Vader and the group on the right fought the Seventh Sister. I am not sure if that is the way it always goes, but that was our experience. They also take pictures of all the kids that you can link to your Memory Maker account, if you sign up for that. This was a highlight of our trip and definitely worth waking up early for.

We went Sunday, didn't make it into the park until about 9:15, went straight to the sign-up area (actually wandered a bit because it had moved from a couple years ago), and got in line. We only waited about 20 minutes. But by the time we signed up, the earliest slot available was 4:10 (which we took), and then there were like 3 slots after that. The older kids fought Vader, but my son who is almost 7 was put in the younger group so he fought the sister. When you show up for your slot, they have the kids pick a dot to stand on. There was a front row and back row. My son was on the front row. Not sure if that had anything to do who they fought, but just an FYI. All of the kids were given a pin at the end which my son proudly displayed for the rest of the day. We tried to have him do this when he was 4 and it was a no-go, but this time he was very excited about it, and it ended up being the highlight of the day for all of us!

So, if you have an early ADR does that "help" you avoid lines here? We have an 8:35 ADR at Hollywood and Vine. Will we be able to sign up before breakfast?

I haven't done it myself, but I have seen recent DIS posts from people saying they were allowed to sign up before breakfast.
