I read over at Screamscape that there may be another thrill ride at AK. It is rumored that this may be Journey to the Center of the Earth, modeled possibly after the ride at Tokyo DisneySea. They say that this may be an attempt to make AK more than just a 1/2 day park. I wonder if this info is anywhere else?

New one to me... I don't know much about Tokyo DisneySea. Could you tell us what their ride is about/like?
For lots of pictures of Journey to the Center of the Earth, and even a couple of videos, see http://laughingplace.com/News-ID504870.asp

I don't see the connection to animals. Well, there's a Molten Rock Creature and other bizarre creatures, but that would be a stretch. It may be a good ride, but it doesn't belong in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

It arguably could, as the centerpiece of the "Beastly Kingdom" proposed addition to Animal Kingdom, a celebration of the fanciful animals creative minds throughout history have envisioned.

Think dragons, unicorns, monsters and the like.

Or better yet, see the queue section of Dueling Dragons.

Lets see here, Journey to the Center of the Earth a Jules Vern based attraction rumored to be coming to WDW. 20,000 Leagues under the Sea another Jules Vern based attraction that has just met its doom at WDW. Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking? Correct rumor, wrong park! Journey to the Center of the Earth will be replacing 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. In my mind that is the only possible replacement that would make up for the loss of 20,000 Leagues. Regardless, I've got my fingers crossed that Journey makes it to WDW somewhere! And not some watered down version!

Well, here is my two cents on the matter. About 4 years ago, we had heard from several different sources that catastrophy canyon was going to be replaced by Journey to the Center of the Earth. But now with the stunt show, I don't know how that would work out, although they might be able to fit it in in the Catastrophy Canyon space.....By the way, this is actually the first time I have heard this rumor re surfacing in 4 years!

Tokyo's Journey is a terrific ride. It's set on Mysterious Island, an amazing recreation of a volcano with a caldera that shoots fire, smoke, and steam. Inside the caldera is the entrance to the ride through tunnels that seem made of molten lava. You take an elevator - and it actually goes down - to the loading platform in a atmospheric cavern. Very cool.

The ride lasts about 4 minutes. The movement is similar to test track but with more vertical. You cruise by beautiful underground crystal formations, before meeting the Lava Monster. It's well done. Then you kick into high-gear - going straight up and turning right. Then you drop - now you can see outside and you feel like you're going to be launched onto people down below. Then you slow down. The ending was a bit abrupt. I wish the run out had been a bit longer.

The theming and overal atmosphere really make the ride, although the movement is excellent. But what really makes it outstanding is its position on Mysterious Island - which is the neatest single land ever IMHO.

I don't think it would fit in AK.

This is a great ride!:bounce:

I wished Disney would have built this one first before Test track and Mission Space. This has the Disney magic!
