We are headed to Jones Beach, Long Island NY for a concert in August and are looking for hotel suggestions in the area. It doesn't have to be on the beach, in fact it doesn't matter if it is 10 miles away or so as we will have a car. Just looking for something good for a family of 4.

We usually like to stay in Embassy Suites but I don't believe there are any close by.

Any dining suggestions or other things to do in the area?

Thanks! :)

I am a native long islander. There are no hotels close by. You will have to go onto the mainland. If you have time you should plan for some beach time. Jones beach and the other fire island beaches are amazing. There are several nice museums nearby. The cradle of aviation, firemen museum, and Long Island children's museum are close. If you go there you can ride nunleys carousel. Tons of restaurants in the museum area. Cheesecake Factory , California pizza kitchen, p f changs, ect. Hotel depends on choice. I would stay away from anything on the water because the waterfront and places nearby because of the devastation from hurricane sandy.

Jones beach is just a state park. So, there aren't hotels, restaurants, amusements, etc, like you would find on the Jersey shore. That part of LI is also not really a tourist destination.

While I don't know this exact hotel, Rockville Centre is not far away and is a great town with shops and restaurants. You could try the Hampton Inn there...

(there are a few Dis'ers from there maybe they will chime in)

I grew up very close to Jones Beach, but moved to Suffolk County 20 years ago!

Have fun...we love going to concerts there!

Thank you both so much. I will start in the direction you suggested.

Everyone at DIS boards has always been so helpful in the past. I hope when I commented on DIS posts, I have been able to help others out as well.

Thanks again!!!

So, what have you found?

Rockville Centre is a great suggestion. There are lots of restaurants and pubs, and you're only about 15 minutes from Jones Beach.

My dad built that Hampton Inn :).

I'm in Rockville Centre, so if you have any questions, let me know. Another hotel option is The Allegria in Long Beach. It's right on the beach, they have a pool, beach access, etc. I'm not sure what the boardwalk situation will be given all the damage from Sandy, but it would still be nice in August.

Either place will have you 15 minutes from the Jones Beach theater.

If you go north with this idea there's a red roof inn and I believe another hotel right in this area. Look for hotels in carle place. This is convenient in that its directly north off the meadowbrook parkway. It is a congested area though.
