I don't think they were mocking him. I think they were copying him because they think the way he talks is cute. He's still learning to speak, I wouldn't say he has a lisp at this point.

I have to agree with this to an extent. Right now it's "cute". Just this weekend, my DSIL was do the same thing to my nephew because some of his r's sound like w's. "Not weewy" = not really. All in good fun. This was a kid who was in speech therapy for over a year with multiple speech errors.

All that being said, I do think that Joel's speech should be monitored. He does substitute a th/s a lot and I have also heard y/l subsititutions: "ayexis" instead of "alexis". At a new age 4 it isn't a hurry and get therapy issue, especially since he was a preemie, however it is worth watching just to make sure he cathces up in a reasonable amount of time.

I am losing my mind. It is official. :lmao:

I swear, I saw posted on this thread that the tour they were on isn't the norm and it's geared for adults. And I haven't been reading any other blogs/boards today to confuse that with. And now I can't find the post.

We all saw the same thing. We drew different conclusions from the same information. I don't think I'm going to change anyone's mind by expressing my opinion, nor is it likely that my mind will be changed by what I've read here. I thought Kate & Jon's snarkiness was rude.

And while I don't specifically recall the scenes where J&K didn't take off their sunglasses ... as a general rule it is considered rude to speak to someone and not take off your sunglasses. Not just Jon & Kate .. everyone.

I don't think it was me that said the tour was geared towards adults but I did mention that possibly the tour was a different, vip-style tour than what most people go on. Of course I've also read that they never talk about streisand on this tour and then a couple posts down someone said that they do. :confused3

As far as the sunglasses thing, I've been offending people left and right then apparently because when I'm outside and it's sunny I have sunglasses on and I only take them off if I'm going inside. All that aside, I think venting/complaining about them wearing sunglasses is ridiculous.

Seriously? Even outside?:confused3

I think it's rude to leave them on inside - but when you're outside in the sun? Well then, I guess I encounter ALOT of rude people throughout my day (myself included) because I don't know of anyone who will take off their sunglasses, while standing out in the sun, just to have a conversation with me. I do not consider it rude at all, though.

My DD had a similiar problem with certain letters also - wouldn't pronounce the "hard k" sound - cookie was t-oo-tie. It was addressed and easily corrected with a few sessions with a speech therapist in kindergarten. And, honestly, I missed her talking that way for a while. I thought it was cute too!

I guess I'm extremely rude then because I almost never take off my sunglasses outside because it hurts my eyes. I know Jon wears contacts and I think Kate does as well and those can make your eyes more sensitive to light, especially sunlight. I don't think its rude at all because maybe there is a reason. Plus sunglasses help to keep out dangerous rays that hurt your eyes. And they keep you from squinting which also isn't good for your eyes. So I guess if I want to take care of my eyes, makes me rude, them I'm rude.

I didn't see tonight's complete episode. But I figured they went to Strasburg from what I saw. (very little) We've been going to the Strasburg Railroad faithfully, since we moved to PA in 1983. The "spiel" has been pretty much the same for 25 years. They mention Barbra Streisand because of the Hello, Dolly train car that lives there. In the summer, they add the open air car to the steam train. We haven't been there recently, so some of the wording may have changed. Plus, I'm sure different conductors put their own "spin" on the talk.

OK, so why don't I remember that? I've been on that with you and don't remember being talked to so I said they don't do that. I guess I just totally ignored him during our rides. :lmao: who knows with me..all I know is that I swore they didn't do that all the time and then you show up and blow all that! Thanks a lot!

(BTW..guys, I'm talking like that to her cause we're related)

Again - I think some people just watch to find some little detail to trash Jon and Kate about.

Really, the sunglass issue is really grasping, IMO. Give me a break.

No, you're not losing your mind..I am. I did say they don't do that on the trains but then Barb came on and corrected that. And since she has been on the trains way more than I have and since she is older than me, I will defer to her and say she is correct. I just don't remember that being done the 3 times I've been on it. It's been a while since I've been on the train, so I'm 100 % sure Barb is right.

thats what my mom always taught me. But, I'm old. (according to my 6-year old, anyway ;) ) Maybe times have changed? I dont know. By wearing sunglasses, you can't see people in the eye. That's how I was raised.

here's what Miss Manners says:
All this leads Miss Manners to highly uncharacteristic hedging and pleading: Remove your sunglasses when meeting and talking to people if they prevent eye contact, but only if you can do so without hardship.

I do think sunglasses are a lot more common and popular than they were 20 years ago .. when my mother was teaching me such things. Taking off sunglasses when talking to people may be one of those things that has changed over time.

having just finished reading over at GWoP, I agree. Those people are getting increasingly out of control each week. wow.

Like I said, I was speaking (about sunglass manners) in reference to how I was raised. I don't even wear sunglasses, LOLOL ... I don't remember the scene from the show that has people in an uproar about it. Just want to clear that up :)

Having 8 kids to take up with makes removing sunglasses a hardship. I wouldn't be able to find my when I needed to put them. I do think sunglasses are more common...but I really hate it when people wear them inside or on their head for an extended length of time (like a headband).

ITA the post about people watching to find anything to flame them.

I was really impressed with all the creative crap Kate has come up with for the little kids. I guess it is part of her preschool at home thing. The dino eggs and the caterpillar and releasing the butterflies. Those are pretty cool "science" lessons.

I love the dinosaur egg - my boys would have loved something like that when they were 4 :)

HAHA My DD17 doesn't usually watch the show, but I do. She just happened to be in the room when the dinosaur eggs were shown and said, "Cool! I want one of those!" :lmao:

I actually saw them a few months ago at our local grocery store and picked them up as a fun summer thing to do. We had done a baby chick one and the girls really liked it. So I think we will be doing the dino as saw as DD9 sees the episode!!

I just had to laugh at this; it's exactly how I would say it!:thumbsup2

Thanks! I'm going to keep an eye out for them!! My "baby" would get a kick out of hatching "baby dinosaurs"!! HAHA

I don't think any of us should feel bad about the sunglass thing.

I JUST finally got to watch the show in it's entirety - thought it was very cute. Was interesting to note, that while people want to call the Gosselins rude for leaving their sunglasses on, I noticed the guide left HIS on the whole time while giving his speech.

Again - I think some people just watch to find some little detail to trash Jon and Kate about.
That's an understatement! I didn't watch the railroad episode until after I read this thread. I expected Kate & Jon's comments to be so much worse based on what people here were saying. It was one quick little comment about the guy's speech, that's it! Some people are just so envious that they will do whatever they can to find something to criticize Kate & Jon about.

Of course nobody ever reacts when Jon & Kate say something positive. They were very impressed by the first train and commented on what beautiful workmanship it was. At Sesame Place they talked about what a clean park it was but I never saw anyone post anything about that. If they had said that it was NOT a clean park, I guarantee there would have been pages of comments.

Was interesting to note, that while people want to call the Gosselins rude for leaving their sunglasses on, I noticed the guide left HIS on the whole time while giving his speech.
Another example of the hypocrisy.
