Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

I was really impressed at the kids' behavior on the tour :)

I know I used the word complain upthread - but in hindsight, it was really more (to me) of Kate & John sharing a snarky moment after a family outing. My DH have done that many times over the years. It's fun to do - but, I thought that it was really rude of them to do it on camera. That guy might be watching tonight for his time on TV and sees them laughing about how it's over all of their heads. Rude.

I can see this. I guess that's why it isn't bothering me as much because I know that I would totally be saying the same thing to whoever I was with, after the fact. But you are right, that the tour guide may have had his feelings hurt by THEIR comments.

Maybe the producers should have edited that part out, out of respect for the
tour guide. I mean it was only 30 seconds of the show - there had to have been more useable footage. Just a thought. :confused3

I didn't see tonight's complete episode. But I figured they went to Strasburg from what I saw. (very little) We've been going to the Strasburg Railroad faithfully, since we moved to PA in 1983. The "spiel" has been pretty much the same for 25 years. They mention Barbra Streisand because of the Hello, Dolly train car that lives there. In the summer, they add the open air car to the steam train. We haven't been there recently, so some of the wording may have changed. Plus, I'm sure different conductors put their own "spin" on the talk.

Haven't seen it yet, was out of town today, but shouldn't some of the blame for the apparently rude remarks be placed on the editor?? If Mr. Tour Guide shouldn't have to tailor his spiel to his audience (which, as a pp mentioned, should be done :thumbsup2), why should Jon and Kate have to tailor their remarks to a "camera appropriate" standard? I know I absolutely make little snarky remarks if the situation brings it about, and I wouldn't censor myself if I was surrounded by cameras all the time. I probably should ;) , but I wouldn't.

Anyway, the TLC/F8 team ultimately have approval on what gets on the show and what ends up on the floor, so they must have thought it added to the show (or would stir up conversation/publicity!!).

I love the show and think Jon and Kate are wonderful parents that get as frustrated and tired as we all do. I can't imagine having 8 children at home and think they just try to do the best they can. Jon and Kate are a good balance for each other...when she gets frustrated he is fine, and when he gets frustrated she calm. I just think they are a very good match. The children are adorable and sweet and naturally all have their "off" moments! When my daughter was small I remember feeling like I needed 6 arms and a million more hours in the day to accomplish anything! I can't imagine how Jon and Kate feel some days. I like them for saying what they think and putting their family first. I have enjoyed their show since it first started. I know some people find fault with them, but I think they are awesome!

I also think it was the editing that made then look bad. For all we know the editor asked them what they thought of the speach and then just showed their comments. We may not have heard the whole converstation. Its just my opinion. I think they are doing a good job raising those kids. I agree the twins can be fresh mouthed, but I think that is part of the age, and having to compete with 6 brothers and sisters.

I didn't think the speech comments were a big deal at all. None of the commentary had anything to do with what the kids would know and it went right over their heads... that's not insulting to anyone, it's just the truth. Even if the conductor was watching the episode, did he really think te kids would know and appreciate anything about Barbra Streisand? It was a given that it would go over their heads and J&K were just pointing it out.

I thought last night's episode was really cute! We used to go to the strasburg Railroad on all of our many Lancaster trips and it brought back so many great memories. Kids love that place! I loved seeing the kid's reactions to everything and it looked like they all had a great time. It's really a stretch finding anything to complain about in this episode... which I don't get in the first place. It's a fun, family show so for anyone who does nothing but complaing about J&K and cut them down, you're entitled to your opinion but why are you wasting your time watching the show when you obviously don't care for it?

I was watching and laughing and thought, "what will people complain about this week" and I couldn't find anything, but I guess if you want to complain about Kate, you'll find something.

Me too. I watched that complete episode, and the Sesame Place one too, and couldn't imagine that there was anything anyone could complain about. I guess I don't watch too carefully :confused3

I actually find the little comments that Jon and Kate make to be funny. When Joel was hiding behind the bench in their family picture for example, Kate said she didn't notice until they got home and looked at the pictures. She made a comment about, "Maybe we can just draw him in" :lmao: I think some people are just too sensitive.

I've wondered the same thing, but I've never gotten an answer. It's not bad here, but there are other sites that blow my mind. If I had such hatred for a show or the people on it, I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching it. But, to each his own, I guess

I loved the episode. Strasburg railroad is a great place. Here is a link to more info for anyone interested:

I couldn't find anything wrong with this episode. I really think people are just nit picking, trying to find things wrong. You don't have to agree with how they parent or act but to find something wrong with everything they say and do is crazy. Just turn the show off! (I don't mean this to anyone here in particular)

You could tell the tour guide at Strasburg loved his job and was proud to show off the trains. I'm sure the Barbra info was more for J&K's benefit more than the kids. When you take the Backstage Tour at WDW, the spiel is geared more for the adults - not the kids. Same thing.

But most of those tours are for people over 16 :confused3 Not that the conductor did anything wrong by sharing the info, but bashing Jon and Kate over saying it went over the kid's heads is ridiculous.

Agreed...when they first arrived at the train museum and were walking in, I clearly heard a woman say (to the effect of) "oh look, jon and kate plus 8".

I heard that too, a woman got really excited and was like, "look, ther's Jon and Kate plus 8"! Kate looked at her and kept going, she must get that all the time!

I just had to come here, a much more civilized, mature discussion board, to vent about the nonsense I was reading on another site (GWoP blog). These people truly nit pick every little thing...someone actually posted a comment basically saying that J&K were rude to be wearing sunglasses the entire time they were there....umm, they're outside and it's sunny. :confused3 There was a page of comments just speculating about what horrible things would happen in the episode before it even aired. I fully admit to not always agreeing with J&K but my goodness, these people are ridiculous.

I agree and I think some of why people say such mean things about them is partly due to jealousy. I personally would never want 8 kids..lol..but I admire the way they handle it. They have a good marriage and joke around and I think family IS the most important thing to them and they aren't afraid to show it. If they get perks, well, good for them! They are doing a great job with the kids and work and play hard. The kids are adorable and well-behaved and I credit that to good parenting. Are they perfect? No. No one is. Kate is an opinionated, strong woman and Jon is a hands-on dad and I can't find fault with that!! :earsboy:

I want to make sure I understand what I'm reading ... because the man was doing his JOB (even though he was telling JK8 something they thought was boring), it is perfectly acceptable for Kate to be rude/complain about it on national TV? :confused3

I don't get that at all.

They should be mature enough to hold off on those comments until they camera is off. That doesn't set a very good example for their kids either. Be gracious, sit through it, say thank you and move on.

She didn't tell him to shut up. She just made a simple comment about the kids not caring about such things. So, yes, she should say it on the show. That is what the show is about. Everyone wants the show to be "real", right?

One of the things that I liked about this episode was them having to wade through the crowds. I know they mentioned how difficult that is to do for a family of 10, but that is how real life is. I actually wish they would get back to showing some of their daily life situations. It's nice to see a trip once in a while, but lately it's becoming all about them. Which makes my kids want to move to Pennsylvania, lol. They said there must be TONS of stuff to do there.

I was :lmao: at Jon's faces and descriptions of the boys when they would be asked who did something. My kids do that all the time!

I thought that it was really rude of them to do it on camera. That guy might be watching tonight for his time on TV and sees them laughing about how it's over all of their heads. Rude.
These are the same people who mock their own son's lisp. So I'm not thinking that tact, discretion, and consideration of others is their strong suit.

I don't have any idea who set up the tour for JK8. But to put 8 kids on a tour designed for adults and then joke about the tour guide talking about things that are over the kids' head is rude. The guy was just doing his job, and he was proud of it.

And for the record, I don't watch for the sole purpose of finding things wrong. I don't have a notebook keeping track (although I'm sure there are people out there that do!) My DD loves to watch the show, and we watch together. Some episodes are really cute and I enjoy them ... but like any other TV show I watch, I don't love every one.

Huh...I doubt the train tour is designed for adult. People of all ages visit train museums, and the tour took place at a time that Thomas was there.
If you are referring to what you quoted, I believe that person was referring to the comparison to the behind the scene tours at WDW, which are markets toward those 16+

I don't think they were mocking him. I think they were copying him because they think the way he talks is cute. He's still learning to speak, I wouldn't say he has a lisp at this point.

Sorry I should have been more clear - I meant the Backstage STUDIO Tour like the big red shuttles at the Studio not the Behind the Scenes tours. Those spiels are geared more for the adults onboard or at least they used to be years ago when I worked there.

For all the train tour guide knew, J&K could have been huge Streisand fans. If it was part of the regular spiel then why not include it? I bet if he had stood there silent instead then J&K would have complained about that. :confused3

I am losing my mind. It is official. :lmao:

I swear, I saw posted on this thread that the tour they were on isn't the norm and it's geared for adults. And I haven't been reading any other blogs/boards today to confuse that with. And now I can't find the post.

We all saw the same thing. We drew different conclusions from the same information. I don't think I'm going to change anyone's mind by expressing my opinion, nor is it likely that my mind will be changed by what I've read here. I thought Kate & Jon's snarkiness was rude.

And while I don't specifically recall the scenes where J&K didn't take off their sunglasses ... as a general rule it is considered rude to speak to someone and not take off your sunglasses. Not just Jon & Kate .. everyone.
