Well you pay taxes don't you? Our taxes support the public schools and their services. They should be providing transportation for all children to go to school.:thumbsup2
In our area, the public school system busses all the children. Public and private school kids. :woohoo:
I never knew there was any other way.:confused3

That's the way it is for us as well.

well the way it is here (and was in california) was that kids are assigned, according to their home's location, to a school. there is a designated distance a child has to have between their home and their assigned school before bussing is available to them. so i guess if this were in effect in our area the first hurdle would be to ensure your kid's private school was outside that distance amount (and then i suspect, if a public school was available within the allowed distance it would be denied just as those cases where public school parents opt to send their kids to schools within the district but outside the mileage-it's their 'choice'-they carry the burden of transportation). the other issue is the public school busses would not likely be accommodating to make special routes to take the private school kids to schools not on the regular bus scheduals-and the public school busses only go (unless it's on a sanctioned school field trip) on public property-so even if they were willing to drop off at the private school kids, they could'nt go on the grounds of the private school (and there's a whole poop load of laws as to where the busses can load, where they can stop....).

i'm just waiting for the idjits in our homeowners association to realize the deal with the laws around here. currently they gripe because since our homes are accessed by a private road the school bus will only drive up to the begining of it (so the kids walk or more often are driven as much as 3 miles to access it). now they are hot to get a waiver to send the kids who live here out of our designated district because it's further away than the nearest school (in city limits, another district). i don't think they realize that the only reason we qualify for any bus service is because of the distance we are from the existing school-so if they push it through they are looking at instead of a max 3 mile walk/drive to the county roads-another 10 plus miles of driving because the other district while it may accept an out of district student-is not required to provide transportation for those parents who electivly choose to do so.

Move to PA. You can send your child to any school you want & your school District had to provide transportation. It was that way when I was a kid too. It seems fair to me. Your paying thousands in school taxes & just using the bus. It is a great deal for the school district.

The twins do go to private school

no thanks- i'll stick to washington. i figure all the other people like us who opt to send their kids to private schools can provide our own transportation. i prefer seeing my education tax dollars going to something along the lines of the program our state offers wherein highschool juniors and seniors can take free college classes through any public funded college or university and if they are so inclined or motivated-graduate from highschool as incoming college juniors:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

gasoline is expensive but i can always cut costs by carpooling with other parents with kids at our school. no way i can share the cost of 2 years (or in my case with 2 kids-4 years) of college tuition.

I am such a fan of the show, and I hope they never take it off the air.

HOWEVER

as a mom, seeing what Mady is going through, I think having a camera crew in the house, and her antics shown on TV, is only going to hurt the situation. Think about the people at her school- her teachers, her friends, their parents, their next door neighbor, etc. Surely they are all huge fans and watching the show, and making assumptions about Mady based on what she did on last night's episode. They might treat her differently, or tease her because of it. That's JUST what that kid needs!

If I were her mom I would stop the show and focus on my kid. JMHO. But I absolutely love the show, and as a voyeur I hope they keep it on!

Hi i am a new person to disboards and found this thread about jon and kate. I lovvvve the show. I like both Jon and Kate (Jon is so cute! lol) and Kate reminds me of a boss i used to know.. who btw was the *best* one i've ever had. Sure she could get on my nerves sometimes because of her shortness, but she definitely knew what she wanted and it makes working for her so much easier. And I think that JJon isn't such a pushover like he is shown as being on the show.. i know if it were me in his shoes if i had enough or if i thought she crossed the line with something, i wouldn't stay quiet about it i would let her know. i just think that they don't show that part of the conversations because they have such a short programm to edit for.

sorry for typos :)

I hope they never cancel this show!

Long Island too, at least Suffolk County anyway. There is a mileage restriction but it's very generous.

That's the way it is for us as well.

It's not this way everywhere. In my town in Mass., bus transportation is free to the public schools, up until high school - then we have to pay. I know in some neighboring towns, the bus transportation is NOT free - there's an annual fee regardless of the grade. Not right, IMO - I pay ALOT in taxes!

I hope they never cancel this show!

I agree - would really love to see how these kids develop as they get older, but I couldn't imagine it would be on for more than just a few years.

:rolleyes1 Tonight, tonight my show is on tonight!:rolleyes1
From the previews it looks like it probably took place in March when we had a warm spell in PA. I'll be interested in seeing what reuns we get to go along with the new show.

I know what tonite's shows are about. The new one at nine is supposed to be narrated by Cara & Mady; the repeat shows on after are: the one where the twins sign up for music lessons; Kate's wardrobe make-over; and the third is "winter preparation."(in no particular order)

According to my Tivo: "Winter approaches and Kate struggles to find room for the kids to play inside, then with some help from handyman Joe, she reorganizes the house to give the children more space".

It's scheduled for 9:30pm(EST). Based on that description, it's not ringing a bell for me either, but it is a repeat. I'm sure once I see it, it will all come back to me!

Thank you. Now I can go to bed early since I recently saw the shows on at 10:00 and 10:30

I saw Kate at a local grocery store last weekend! My kids wanted her autograph but I wouldnt allow it. I was the meanest mom for the rest of the day!

Love the show. Watched tonight with the kids playing and Jon telling Kate she doesn't play with her kids-wowsers! She needs to really chill and enjoy the kids because they aren't small forever.

Ok ok She was at the Giant in Wyomissing area, she had no camera or kids. I hate to ruin anyones fun but I work at the hospital where she used to work and "others" say she wasnt very nice. Yes she looked good hair was done to a "T". I was afraid of how she would react to my own kids. They were chewing gum!!! LOL

Was she in the organics section?:rotfl2:

I'm not sure if this was in a new or repeat episode...I can't believe how she slaps Jon. He plays it off well but can you imagine if the tables were turned and he play-love-slaped her? I think she has a screw loose.
