Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I'm guessing the sports car isn't the problem. It seems like the car is part of an overall pattern of behavior.

My issues with it are

1. It's an awfully big purchase to make without discussing it with your spouse. Based on their relationship, I think it was a spiteful act.

2. He just told his spouse to end the travelling & the show- their current sources of income.

oops- I meant to quote this part

They still own the smaller house, they could move back there. Yes, it would be cramped, but alot of us live in small houses. If Jon is good at IT or whatever, why doesn't he start his own company. Use the publicity for the family good. It really burns me, when Kate says she HAS to go on. And have you seen the pics of her from yesterday coming out of the petstore wearing her bathing suit and a coverup. Give me a break!!

They are saying he did it with out talking to Kate before hand. If my hubby bought a car without talking to me about before he did it. He would be living in that car

Yes, they have made some money but so have alot of other people including their publicists and TLC. It's not the family gets every dollar from the books and the royalties of the dvds.

If the family stops making the show, they aren't remembered. If they stopped with the show next month, a year from now Kate's book wouldn't be a dent on the best seller list. If this kept up, then they could be back with nothing.
I agree, and I haven't seen anyone say this was an all or nothing if the show ends. Just that they have spent (or put a down payment on) some pretty expensive items, and as you said, others get big cuts of the money, and hopefully they have padded the kids bank accounts. Someone said they did have a show on it, and the kids get their share when they graduate college or turn 30, so it sounds like they are trying to protect their assets. Who knows what teh TLC contract says. Just like other divorced parents (if that happens) it's likely the big house will no longer be affordable, and who knows, the way the housing market went, they may lose what they put in it. If there is a divorce, lawyer bills are going to be high, since I assume they'll want to break up the corporation Jon says is formed. Once they are out of the public's eye, appearances will slow down, and I don't know how employable they are. They know better than us about their circumstances, and I'm sure with their info, they are trying to do what they think is best for their children, just like we have done what we think is best for ours.

I'm not sure she'll make a ton from the next book..isn't it a recipe book? According to her brother, she doesn't cook lol!

As for the sports car..sure, a married person with 8 kids should have one, even if it was never discussed with his wife..preferable one his girlfriend likes to drive LOL. Seriously, you are right, if they can afford it, and decide to get one, there shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure when he got it, he knew the end was near, and he wouldn't need room for the kids. I'm sure Kate will let him borrow the van when he has visitation.

Not sure if this has been brought up, but yesterday in the re-run marathon was the show where viewers asked ???'s. One of them was something about not doing the show anymore. They both laughed and said OH we can stop,,,OK we're done see ya. Then she went on to say stuff like as long as it's healthy for the kids and the kids are happy and safe or whatever, that they would keep doing it.

So after watching last night's episode, either that doesn't pertain anymore or she doesn't see how the show is a negative in the kids lives???

Those people at the party last night had to feel the tension and feel akward beign there. Why would you put people in that position??? The kid's didnt' have a huge party at 4, have some bouncy's out back and some close friends over and call it a day. Why involve outsiders??

My guess is they were trying to through off the news hound.

I understand what you are saying, C. Ann but I don't completely agree. Yes, they have made some money but so have alot of other people including their publicists and TLC. It's not the family gets every dollar from the books and the royalties of the dvds.

They have a mortgage and bills and 8 children to provide for including health insurance and birthdays and Christmas presents. It's been well documented that the most wealthy can be filing for bankruptcy in the blink of an eye. I just don't think it's as black and white as we all like to think.

BTW, hi ya'll. I lurk here alot. I've watched the show since the specials were aired. I love watching shows about alot of children as I came from a single kid home and can't imagine the chaos.

------------------------

Let's say all of what you say is true..:goodvibes What is the worst that could happen? They would have to revert back to a "lesser" lifestyle? (Like so many right now are being forced to do??)

Would it not be worth the privacy their children would gain? Not having to fear "Hurry - the paparazzi are coming after us!!".. Not having their children see their parents faces (and all of the allegations against them) splashed all over rag sheets? Not having their children have to look back on that video of the show that aired last night? Not having to listen to gossip from their school friends? Not googling their parents names in the future (as well as poor Mady's) and seeing all of the really, really nasty stuff that is on some of the other sites? Not having cameras recording things they would rather not have millions of viewers gawking at?

What is more important? The money (show) or the childrens right to privacy -even if it means a "lesser" lifestyle? "Things" are just "things".. Their privacy has been taken away from them without their consent - and I find that very, very troubling..

1) How do we know it wasn't discussed with Kate? Do you have a link to an article where she stated she wasn't made aware that Jon was buying the car?

2) He stated very clearly on the Season 4 finale, he was having major issues dealing with the stress of things. She said she loved how things were, there was the main problem, no compromise. She had book deals, clothing deals, and something with Walmart, they weren't going to starve if the show ended.

No amount of money is worth having your kids and your family followed by photographers all the time.

I remember them saying that they took a family vote and if one person didn't want to do the show then they would stop. I guess they don't do that anymore. ;)

Apparently the same rule applies in his house so he was just purchasing housing for himself. :rotfl:

And hey, who are we to judge? Maybe he had a coupon?!

Yes, if he had an affair I would blame him. If he wasn't happy at home, then he should have either tried to fix it, or leave. He did make poor choices, one of them was being out in bars and leaving with a young girl. Another was bringing her to his home.

I have no idea who said what last night, only whet TLC let me see.

I think he DID try to "fix" things at home. Jeesh if the whole country knew they weren't happy I'm sure Kate did too. He made it clear he didn't want to do the show anymore. Kate made sure everyone knew that she was doing the show come heck or highwater. After all its for the kids

As far as the leaving, maybe the "contract" (alledged) sp? has some merit? Maybe she did tell him it was OK as long as nobody found out. Wierder things have happened. Then his mantra of "I didn't cheat on Kate" would hold more merit. Kinda like the language of Slick Willie ;)

She said in the People magazine article that he bought the car without her knowing about it.

Kate also has a deal with HealthTex and Walmart. I don't see the cash flow stopping any time soon. Of course, when the show is cancelled, they might have to move out of their current house because of the upkeep cost, taxes, etc.
I'd assume that cash flow would stop if the show does. What would be the point, if we can't see the kids wearing the items?
Yes, they could move back to within 5 houses for the wonderful Aunt Jodi, and where the paparazzi could park right in front of their home. Of course then if they get rid of the dogs LOL, because they don't have land to roam on, and no one at home during the day while Kate is out working, you know that will be all over this thread. (Or if they keep the dogs, people will post, that she can't afford them and how dare she keep them confined in such a small space)

:thumbsup2 Yup, lots of people are reverting back to a cheaper lifestyle or downsizing due to the economy. They can do it but it means going back and Kate says there's no going back...

What did Jon do when he did work? Again has he thought of using the publicity for good and start his own company.

I have absolutely nothing to base this on - other than my own gut feelings -but would anyone here be surprised if we soon see a line of clothing with Kate's name on it - a line of clothing with the kids name on it - and Gosellin twin and sextuplet dolls??

Just something to ponder..

I have to ask, did anyone enjoy the show? Think it was just great to see the kids and their b-day?

What do regular people do when they fall on hard times? If they are smart, they cut back and make do. Is Kate not capable of this? I guess if you are entitled to your wealth and fame.... It will end one way or another, so it's best to plan for the lean times just like ordinary people do.

And to answer the question if I would put my kids on tv to make money-NO! Money does not buy happiness and I like my life as is. Happiness is wanting what you have. I thank Someone every day for all that I have. ;)

Those kids are working being filmed every second of their lives and we have no proof they are being paid as individuals. Jon and Kate make the money and we have to hope some if it is being set aside in the kids names. Their whole life is staged to make a tv show. That is not a childhood I would want for my kids. Gymboree clothes and trips to a museum do not hold that much value for me!

You do think he tried to fix it? And then when it didn't get fixed, he went out partying with college students and went out of a bar with a 23 year old? Wow, I'm glad my husband never tried to fix anything that way.

We saw what TLC wanted us to see as far as the last show of the season. If Jon wanted to be out of the show, he's a big boy..he could have left, and paid off his contract. But there he was, in the new season. I think Jon likes the money (trip to Utah, Hawaii, fancy sports car, nice house), and that he somehow thinks he can cut out and it will still be there. I didn't see Jon trying to slow down his spending. Kate did say in the mag interview that she kept doing things she thought would make him happy, but apparently nothing did. I think he was along for the ride, and now, darn it, the paparazzi are on to him, and he feels like he is in jail..no more sneaking out without everyone knowing about it. At this point, he should move into the old house, pay the bills out of his share of the money, while the contract plays out, or the new house gets sold, or whatever they decide to do. I'm betting when his money starts to dry up, he'll have a change of heart.

I thought it was kind of weird about Kate caring about her makeup, but it looked like she did the interview before the party. Whenh she was decorating for the party she had that skirt on.
That could also explain why they seemed so strange at the party.
As for the car, I don't believe he really bought it. In the pics with the girl it was a truck, and in last night's show it was a car...

Well, I would hope that they have been working with a financial advisor to make sure that they have a nest egg to fall back on. I hope that they didn't think the show would go on forever.

They have two houses right now. Sell them both and buy a new one. If they aren't on TV anymore and the cash flow from the books, clothing, speaking engagement stops then so will the interest in the family. Yes, there may be cameras for a short time, but people will stop caring. The paparazzi will find a new target and they will be left alone.

The kids will be in school full time so no one will need to be home all day, every day. Kate can work a 9-5 like the rest of America and be with the kids at night.

A lot of people have to get rid of pets when times get tough or sacrifice other things to pay for their animals. It's a part of life, why should the Gosselins be any different when times get tough? Because they have 8 kids? A lot of families have multiple children to care for, not just them.

I have to ask, did anyone enjoy the show? Think it was just great to see the kids and their b-day?
