Whilst fighting the crowds in animal kingdom jessica and i stopped and chatted to the DVC guy. We quite liked what we heard and wondered how many of you all are members, any advice you have, what sort of amount you can expect to pay if you choose the finance option, etc etc. advice much appreciated as we are seriously considering joining :)

Pity you left it so late, I could have given you a guided tour...

We bought nearly two years ago. We have 270 points costing us just over £13,000 which we financed through an equity release loan on our house, over a short length of time. We got this at extremely good rates and for us it was the cheapest option.

Last year our annual dues were around £525 and we'll be getting the bill for 2005 shortly. With the current exchange rates, now is a good time to buy.

Good luck.

We did the tour last year and I would definately recommend doing it even if you are just curious...there is NO hard sell!

We were looking at 220 points I think, which if we left a $1000 deposit, would cost £120 per month (over 5 years). The balance could have been financed with Abbey National. If we HAD of bought though, we would have bunged it on our 0% credit card and paid it off over the year.

We decided against at that time, because we had to buy a new car. DH also was interested in a Villa as well so we wanted to check out the options on that.

He did make the rather rash promise, that if the Dollar hit $2/£1, then DVC would be worth buying into anyway....I have my pen ready for him to sign :D.

My DH is a keen statitician, and has spent some time doing the math. He worked out (for us) that it would begin to pay dividends in around 7-8 years (by, that he meant the cost of the holidays taken would cover the initial investment). With the Dollar so weak, he is definately coming round to the idea...and he is a hard man to convince!!

Bought an OKW resale about three years ago - when the dollar was REALLY low!! :( :o But still very pleased I did!! Happy to help if you want anymore info about resales.

Best advice is to think about which Use Year you would get. What time of year do you think you are most likely to visit WDW in the future? Obviously it's better not to run the risk of your points expiring if you have to cancel your holiday, which could happen if you pick the wrong Use Year for you!!

the other issue is SSR goes further out than the other places.........so your getting more bang for your buck buying new SSR than say OKW........also when you buy disney you can finance through them rather than having to come up with cash via a resale.

and the timeshare store already has some SSR resales listed..........it all comes down to financing or not..........if you need it go to DVC if you pay up go to a resale............also buy smaller resale contracts at multiple resorts so you can access the 11 month rule for any resort that is your home...........dont buy a big resale at HH or VB because it could hurt your trip planning going forward
