Join BJ's Warehouse just for rental car discounts?

Has anyone done this? Do they check to see if you have a BJ's card when you leave with the rental car? We don't have a BJ's anywhere near us, so the membership wouldn't do us any good beyond the rental car discounts. I have checked discounts through Sam's club also even though we don't have one of those closer than 25 miles away either, but their rates aren't much better than just renting through the car rentals websites.

We are looking to rent at St Petersburg airport Feb 27-Mar 8 and not finding very good prices. Cheapest is $313.19 for midsize car. Can't find any coupons that don't expire by the end of this year using Budget which is who we have the reservation with so far. Anyone have any tricks that they made work? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Entertainment books? That is what I usually find the best discounts with.

If you go with Alamo and use their $15 ecoupon and the WalMart code which gives you a free addl driver, you can ge ta midsize for $242.76. The rate may even come down as it gets closer, but it is still better than the rate at Budget.

I would not join BJ's just for car rental discounts. I have a BJ's membership (we shop there a lot) and I have never used the BJ's discount for rental cars. I always find better deals on rental cars with codes found at www.mousesavers.com

Just tried this combination and got a rate of $216.97 which is only a dollar more than the rate through BJ's Warehouse, so I am happy with that! Will keep checking as time gets closer and maybe I will be lucky and it will go even lower. Thanks everyone.

I have AAA membership and find hertz to be outrageous! I almost laugh when I check the prices as they are usually double what I can get at alamo or national using a AAA code.

Sorry to hear you aren't getting the cheap prices. I get very good rates around the country with my AAA discount at Hertz.

The BJs codes and coupons give pretty good rates on Alamo and National and sometimes on Dollar. I have never been asked to show by BJs card when I use the code and coupon. If you go to BJs.com you can bring up the coupons online. Each coupon will give you the contract ID and coupon number. Just print out the coupons.

I have used the BJ's codes for the past couple of years and I also have never been asked to show my membership card.

Just checked your dates at National using:

Wal-Mart Customers (in other words, anyone) - Provides up to 20% off. Contract ID is 5000304

Total for everything is $276.50 (& you can still get it cheaper with other codes and coupons...I didn't try adding anything else to it or try the other contract id's)
