Johnny Depp nominated for Golden Globe

For best Actor in a comedy for Pirates of the Caribbean. Just saw the movie and I agree whole heartedly. Hope he gets an Oscar nomination too. But they will probably give the award to Jack Nicholson again--for playing the same character he has played for the last 10 years or so. IMHO, Those nominated should have made the movie what it was and no one else could possibly have made the role work.

I like Jack Nicholson, but I agree with you 100%. In all of his roles these days, he's simply playing "himself". I thought Johnny Depp did an EXCELLENT job in Pirates. Who else was nominated in that category besides Johnny and Jack???

Johnny Depp has played some quirkie characters, greatly. But I think he doesn't win, because they are so quirkie! He was excellent in Ed Wood! Nicely done in Benny and Joon!

I hope he wins...... he takes my breath away!

I am not a huge fan of Johnny Depp's work in general...his choices of most movies are a little too "quirky" for my taste, although the ones I have seen he has been excellent in, just not my particluar taste. However, he did a fantastic job in POTC. He deserves a Golden Globe!

i am personally one of Johnny's HUGEST fans, i doubt he'll win because that's just the way those big wigs at the "academy" or whatever are. i am greatly proud, though, that he received a well-deserved nomination. Cap'n Jack Sparrow is by far one of the greatest, if not the greatest, character i've ever seen him play. i just don't think he gets the recognition he deserves. i am not a fan of jack nicholson (i don't dislike him, it's just im not a huge fan), jack black is really funny, but my whole heart goes to Johnny.

it seems as though everyone i know either loves Johnny or strongly dislikes him. I guess that's just the way it goes. no matter what, i'm holding strong, a loyal JD fan forever!

I personally think that Bill Murray should win for his performance in "Lost in Translation," though if Johnny wins, I won't be too upset
