Our original plans for next October were to fly from San Jose to LAX, but now I see there are flights from San Jose to John Wayne airport too. Do you think this may be a better option? Would we get through customs quicker with it being a smaller airport? What about transport from the airport, do they have shuttles? We will be staying a few days in Long Beach before visiting Disneyland, would that be any further to travel to, than from LAX to Long Beach? Just weighing up the pros and cons, hope someone out there can lend a hand!

Thanks :D

Hi Mazzy! YES, I'd definitely recommend flying in to John Wayne over LAX at the moment. It is a very nice smaller airport (although not too small) and more convenient and closer to Disneyland and Long Beach. They have both Super Shuttle and the Airport Bus (and other shuttle services) to get you to the Disneyland-area hotels, and shuttles to Long Beach too.

As for CUSTOMS...wouldn't you have already cleared customs in San Jose, if that is your first point of entry into the U.S.? If you have already cleared customs you would not need to go through customes again at John Wayne.

Enjoy! :)

Hi Michelle :D

Thanks for the info, John Wayne sounds a better bet all round! Yes, silly me, wasn't thinking straight  Our first touchdown in the USA is San Francisco, so you are right, we don't have to go through customs, but it does sound as if we would get through the crowds quicker and if it has shuttles the same as LAX it sounds much better as I imagine the journey would be slightly quicker.

Thanks again :D

Long beach is pretty much between the two airports, from LAX you go south on the 405 from SNA (john wayne) you go North on the 405. SNA is much closer to Disneyland than LAX, and easier to get through. One word of advice though. SNA closes early (10:30 I think, but it might be 11). If your flight has not landed by this time they will reroute you to another airport. This is only something to think about if you have a flight that arrives in late evening, otherwise it doesn't matter much.
