Seems like I remember a jogging or walking track around the promenade deck. Anyone have details on it?

Deck 4 is the "official" walking/jogging deck, although I've heard of people doing it on deck 9 and deck 10 too. And of course there are treadmills in the fitness center. The organized walks are help oin deck 4.

yes 4 = 1 mile

I ran twice on the deck and it was nice - one side was always hotter than the other due to the sun coming up (it was morning) but aft seemed cooler as you ran under cover for a bit to make the back half circle.

I also used the treadmills and those were nice as well

DH is an avid runner/marathoner. His only real complaint about DCL was about running. Deck 4 is the only one really suitable for running--some of the others are fine for walking, but there are too many "Corners" for a runner. Almost every morning deck four was closed during the twilight o hours for either celaning or docking. My DH and several other runners all went to guest services to find out when they would be able to run unimpeded, and for the entire week, no one was ever able to get that information. They would have run at 3:00am if that had been possible, but none of them wanted to get up taht early to find out the deck was closed :( So he got up at least three morrings in the 4:00-5:00am range to run, and wasn't able to. By 7:00am when they've reopened the deck, there are too many people meandering around to safely run.

Treadmills aren't an option for street runners who do 12-18 miles in a morning and are on a marathon training schedule. :(

4 laps = 1 mile. That's on a sign somewhere on deck 4. On our last trip we noticed panted on a wall on deck 4 another sign about 3 laps = 1 statute mile (I think it was 3 laps but I'm not 100% sure)

I saw quite a few people doing the power walking only on Deck 10 and the runners more in the evening on Deck 4 when people were at the early seating for dinner. That way there weren't as many people out to get in the way.

I found the treadmills to be readily available if you get there at 7:00. Not only that but you get a beautiful view out the front of the ship and a view of the control deck that I don't think you can get anywhere else. It may not be suitable for marathon training but its fine for anything less and the best option available.

Don't totally knock treadmills. I did several 12-15 mile runs on one getting ready for the Marine Corps marathon - boring? heck yeah, but you do what you have to do! I also did several runs on deck 4 - during heavy seas it was REAL neat...........getting hit with spray from the waves, boat lurching from side-to-side. You can run on the boat if you really need to.

I'll never forget walking on the Sovreign of The Seas one morning with my DW as the sun was coming up and some Aussie behind us with a beautiful voice launched into "Waltzing Matilda".

It was beautifully surreal, and anytime I hear that song I am transported back to that deck.

Walk, and if you can, sing for us.
