I have been working at Johnny Rockets for the past year as a To-Go girl. Basically I take to-go orders, host, bus, and sometimes wash dishes. This summer I'm going to be a server because I need the money.

I got this job exactly a year ago. So I was there when the economy went to hell and the restaurant has been doing okay. Even for the summer my manager has hired about 6 new people.

My mom seems to think that they're not going to let me be a server because of the economy. I think that they're going to take me, a girl who's been in the restaurant for a year, over a person who doesn't know what they're doing. I know that people have to work there to learn just like I did. But they're more likely to promote within than hire from the outside.

My mom keeps telling me to get a second job because I'll need the money. But if I get a second job then I won't be able to work at J.Rockets. It's just annoying me.

I know I need the money. I try not to spend a lot. I need to save money for college and disney in the summer. But I'm not going to take a job away from someone who needs it when I already have a job.

Oh, do you work at the J. Rockets in Cranston? I've been there :)

I don't have a job--yet. I'm only 15, but I have that middle-of-summer birthday issue. If I felt I could handle it with school and all, sure, a second job.

Yep, the one in Cranston. that'd be weird if you were there while I was working and we didn't even know it.

Back when I DID have a job, my store was doing really poorly. We had just opened another store in the same city, which took away a lot of business, as did the economy. There would be days when nobody would come into our store until 10:30 (we opened at 9!). Near the end I was only getting 9 hours a week anyways, so I figured I might as well quit so someone else could get those hours, since I didn't really need the money.

Personally, I would just keep with the place you're at.

I dont have a job. The one I wanted and had a good chance of getting in currently unavailable due to a hiring freeze. Im volunteering at a local physical therapy center this summer so I hopefully may be able to get a job there is they ever get an opening. I am sorta worried that I wont get a job though, but i'm only 15.

I don't have a job yet, but I am able to get my working papers where I live. I don't think I'll be applying anywhere any time soon, since there are like, no jobs, especially for teenagers. I'm dying to make my own money though:(

Do you have a job? Yes
Are you scared you're going to lose it because of the economy? No
Would you get a second job? No, I can't handle another one.

I actually already have 2 jobs.

My one job is part-time working at HMV (which is like a music/movies place...dunno if the U.S has it or not) I was really lucky yo get a job there because they RARELY hire. I got in as a part-time temp for christmas along with about 7 other people, and they wound up keeping me (they only kept me out of the temps--I like to think it's cuz I'm so cool ;))

I don't think I'm going to lose it though, I don't get too many hours because the store isn't doing that well, but I think they'll just cut back hours more before they fire anyone. There's only about 10 of us who work there, so it's a small staff to begin with. I'm not worried about losing the job though.

My other job is a full time job in an office where I'm a human resources assistant/receptionist. I only have the job for the summer because they need extra help because they lost one of the HR coordinators and one receptionist. So instead of hiring 2 new permanent employees and having to pay them on salary, I just work there for $12/hr 8 hrs 5 days a week---so my paychecks are pretty awesome.

That job is to help me save money for school/vacations/the future, HMV is for spending money. I'm not worried about losing either job--I know I won't be getting any raises anytime soon, but I think I'll be good.

But working in HR I do see how many lay-offs they're doing in the warehouses and such....it's very saddening.

It's tough sometimes working 8-4 everyday then some days having to work 5-10 right after on some days.
But it's nothing I can't handle. The money is definitely worth it.

I feel very blessed to have the job that I do. Yes, it isn't perfect but I'm glad to have just a little extra income for my bank account for various things. Plus it gets me out of the house. I work 4x/week, so I have 3 days to do other things.

Yes.

-My first one is during summers (and tentative winters/saturdays) only. I work 5 days a week for about 5-6 hours. Its pretty much like a day camp. Just watching/interacting with kids. I like it.

-My next one I acutally don't get paid, but I love it. Its only one day a week. I work in a US Congressman's office as an intern. I answer phones, do paperwork, etc. They like me a lot and may hire me as an intern/district rep as I begin college.

I'm thinking to do something else as well because my summer camp job is from 9am(ughh) till 1pm so its not a good part of the day. My interning this summer will be on Fridays from 2pm-5pm. I'm looking around to see if anyone will hire for maybe 3 days (max) a week.

edit: in a few weeks I'll actually be working at the US Open for a few days. Its before any of my main job starts so it will be a good couple hundred $$ to have.

I have a job and I'm not afraid of losing it due to the economy. Business seems to be ok actually. I think that has more to do with people doing this as an alternative to their big vacations.

Would you get a second job?

They will most likely hire you over someone else.

I have a job, at a bulk food store. I am most definitely not afraid to lose my job. My manager loves me, she said I'm her hardest working employee. I was actually just offered a temporary supervising position for the fall (one of our supervisors plays football and will need two months off). So no, I'll be at this job until I quit. The bad economy hasn't really hit Canada as badly. Eventually we'll be hurting, but currently the Bulk Barn has been doing fine. Yeah our Saturday's are getting slower, but I think that's because of the nice weather. People are going to buy snacks whenever they feel like it, people always need materials to bake and cook with.
Personally, I would only get a second job if you REALLY need the money, and if one of the places is willing to work around your other works schedule.

Part-time work isn't hard to find around here. If I wanted to, I could quit and easily find another job.

OT but, I love Johnny Rockets. The food is so good. haha.

No, I don't have a job. I've been thinking of getting one for the summer tho, because as I get older my parents don't want to fork over money for my clothes and other things.

Do you have a job? Yes. I worked over the winter as a busser/dishwasher/cook/server at a ski resort restaurant. Hopefully, I'll be back at the same place for the summer (different restaurant, same resort). I just need to call my boss and confirm. She told me she'd love to have me back and would hire me back if I wanted the job, I just need to call her tomorrow.
Are you scared you're going to lose it because of the economy? No. Tourism is a pretty big money maker where I live. We're the ski capital of New Hampshire (maybe New England as well...not sure). People come all winter to ski and all summer to hike/boat/swim/bike/whatever, too.
Would you get a second job? It would depend on how much I was making at my first job. I expect to make about $7.50/$8/hr at Attitash, but if I end up getting less I will probably look for a second job some place else. I'm going into college with very little financial support from my parents or my school so I really need the cash.

Do you have a job?yup

Are you scared you're going to lose it because of the economy?no, i work at my grandmother's farm

Would you get a second job?i babysit for extra money which is like a second job

I work at Fitworks gym. I was working 4 days a week. Now I work 1 day, for 3 hours, in playland. My hours were cut big time. The worst part of it is I can't get another job because I go to nursing school. I am going to be a senior in high school, going to high school for english and band then nursing school the rest of the day. I will havea lot on my hands anyways

I have a job at CVS. They cut back the hours drastically once the economy went down hill. I'm really grateful because as a college student who lives on campus, I can't work a lot, only once a month, and as much as I can over the breaks. My manager works with me and allows me to keep my job even though I can barely work.

I'm not really scared of losing my job, because I'm the cashier that has been there the longest, so I think they would get rid of the less experienced workers first. Plus, if CVS hasn't fired me yet with me not working because of school, then I don't think they'll fire me in the future.

I don't have a job yet but I have to start looking by Friday...
My dad had very high expectations that I will get a job this summer but I doubt I will end up getting one for 2 reasons...
1) The economy sucks
2) I'm only 15 and most places don't hire till your 16
I'm not sure what will happen if I don't land a job my dad's not very caring and treated my brother like crap last year till he found a job...
My mom's trying to explain this to him that me or him may not land Summer jobs but he just doesn't get it.
I know lots of other teen's who have already began looking for Summer jobs and have had no luck and many are 16 so I don't know if I will be able to till I'm 16...
Sorry I'm kind of ranting about this it's just kind of fusterating I think I'm going to go check to see if my neighbor needs help with her soap bussiness since she's the only one running it out of her house right now and she's getting some big names endorsing it ( Whole Foods, Haggens etc..)

Have you looked at fast food places? Or being a bagger at the grocery store?
