But I am perturbed that they're cracking down on pre-paid credit card useage. Why can't they just put a huge hole because they're worried about people not cancelling and not paying.
It just seems unfair-we give our credit card numbers and they get charged fradulently, or we use prepaid/one time use numbers and we get accused of fraud. I know it's the price we pay for all the free stuff we get, but I'm very annoyed.

If the vendors didn't try to recharge people, maybe we wouldn't mind using a CC with some available credit on it. The only offer I have done lately was Miriale because they claim they will send an email before they send the next shipment. If they don't do that and I get charged for something I haven't ordered, I am not doing ANY more offers. I am still waitng for my Romeo refund, the one I tried to cancel and got the books and returned.

I only use the prepaid ones now. I have noticed a big number of offers that will not accept them. Which stinks. I will only use my regular cc when it's something like Blockbuster or a book club that I know is a good site and i'll need it for charges in the future.

I think the reason they consider it fraud is because you have no intention of continuing with the service/product when you sign up. If they don't get a return on their advertising dollar it doesn't make sense for them to advertise this way. So either they deny the prepaid cards or they pull out of that type of advertising all together.
I never sign up for something I don't honestly want to try. For a few things they weren't right for me but I ended up recommending them to others.
I agree there is still an issue about credit card security and that is what the pre-paid cards were designed to protect against. I think this is a case where you can have the offers but have to worry about how secure their databases are.

The reason I want to use prepaid cards is identity theft and fraud against me. I had heard so many horror stories from ones using their regular cards, it seemed to be safer. We'll see what happens!

How does a vendor know if the CC I use is a prepaid card???

So, the obopay and simon card that everyone has been posting about is the kind of card these vendors are going to reject?

Yes, they can differentiate between 'real' cc's and the prepaid ones.I have no idea how. :confused3 And some offers will not accept them at all. Others put a larger hold on the prepaid that they would a regular cc. I have only come across a couple that wouldn't go through.
That being said, when I first started rewards programs a little over a month ago, I did maybe 3 cc offers with my 'real' credit card before I began using a prepaid one. I kept excellent documentation and made all the calls I needed to on time. Today my husband was balancing the checkbook and there were
6 charges from similar companies for $1.95 Not pending ones, but actual charges. I of course immediately called them and somehow through 1 offer my card was signed up for 6 different programs. :scared1: They canceled all the accounts and said they would credit all 6 charges...but if there was ever a reason to use a prepaid...there it is! :sad2:

I think the account numbers are different on the prepaids. i think it goes by the first 4 numbers or something that tell them what kind or company they come from.

Can I ask a weird question...why on the SR forum we can no longer discuss prepaid cards? I don't have one, but I just noticed that on the Offers & Contests board.

I think its because it can be considered "fraud" so Tricia doesn't want to lose any advertisers/offers that we can do. She posted a sticky somewhere about it and mentioned it again the other day either on here or over there about the crackdown that was coming.

Yep. The advertising companies specifically asked that we not talk about the prepaid cards on any rewards site forums or risk losing our offers.
