This is my first time with the dining plan and making reservations. I've read some favorable reviews of Boma but I don't really care for buffets after having seen someone...well anyway, I was wondering anyone's thoughts on Jiko-The Cooking Place. Any recommendations? Thanks

It is a wonderful restaurant - my favorite place at WDW. The food is excellent, the service is very attentive and the decor is beautiful. Best of all is the all South African wine list, with many wines that are not available anywhere else in the US. It is a "must do" for me on every trip to WDW.

My thoughts about Jiko, summed up in one word: FABULOUS! Excellent appetizers and African wines. The filet with macaroni and cheese is wonderful, as are any of their fish dishes. For dessert, the pistachio creme brulee gets my vote.

Personally, I think Jiko is one of the best restaurants on property. The selection of wines from Africa, the beef short ribs, and the pork tenderloin make for a great evening. We've eaten there many times and have never had a disappointing meal. Enjoy!

We have never been to Jiko. Every previous trip of ours (9 trips) had our last night at Teppanyaki. Because it is closed this year, we had to make an alternate plan. We chose Jiko and are looking forward to a memorable dinner.

We found the food excellent as well as the wine and the service. However, my DH was disappointed with the filet...while it was excellent, it was nothing special...we could have had that at any good steak place. And I am not sure what the big deal is about the mac and cheese. The sturgeon was AWESOME but the best part of that dish was the veggies of the moment...wow, I have dreams about those. We also loved the Kenyan Coffee flatbread.

We just tried Jiko for the first time 2 weeks ago. We started with the Kenyan Coffee Chicken flatbread, it was pretty good. They also served fresh bread and butter with african spices in the butter (we also requested regular butter for DH and our server happily got it for us). DH got the filet/mac 'n cheese. He liked the filet well enough (though hinted about its size being too small), I told him it's filet mingon, it's not a porterhouse. He didn't care for the macaroni and cheese (I tried it, it was okay not spectacular), I ordered the scallops with fried mealy pap (sp) and spicy tomato/onion chaka laka (think diced/cut tomatoes and onions in a spicy tomato broth) with what looked like fried polenta square on top of that and then the scallops placed on top of that. The scallops were huge and there was about 5 of them, they were also cooked slightly rare (very slightly) the "mealy pap" was actually quite good (it wasn't spicy so kind of tempered the tomato broth mixture). I'm not sure if I would have thought to pair the tomato mixture with the scallops but it worked pretty well. We are not wine drinkers which was unfortunate given the reputation for their wine, so we had our diet coke and mellow yellow  and we were too stuffed to try dessert. We had actually tried to get into Bomas over Jiko's but they were booked (we are not big sophisticates when it comes to dining so Boma would have probably suited us better. I'll tell you though, I can see why everyone raves about the dining plan. Our dinner cost us with tip about $115. I was saying to my husband -man, if we had been eligible for the DP our entire meals for the day wouldn't have cost this much!
