Jiko - Would I need ADRs under this situation?

We are staying at the AKL in September. It will be me, my mom, and my little guy (age 3). We are eating dinner at Boma twice, but will probably pass up Jiko until Paul is a bit older. However, Jiko is my all time favorite Disney restaurant, so . . .

I was thinking that a few nights of our trip, when we are back at the resort early and Paul and Nana are getting cozy in the room, I could sneak out to Jiko for a bit - maybe just an appetizer and a nice drink.

Would I need to make an ADR, or do you think they could always squeeze me in, particularly later in the evening? I would be happy to sit at the bar area.

What do you guys think?

It can't hurt to try. It probably depends what day, what time and what month you plan to do this. 9:30 PM on a Tuesday in December is better than 6 PM on a Saturday in September :) but you never know...

I may be wrong on this but I think that I read somewhere or saw a picture and I believe that Jiko has a bar area. I don't think you would need an ADR to sit there. Try calling AKL and asking them, it couldn't hurt.

Good luck with your stay, I love that hotel and everything about it. They have great activities for children.

p.s. love your avatar. My daughter bought one of those cats in Japan at Epcot. They come in many colors and each color represents something different. I can't remember what white means but I know gold means 'to help make all your wishes come true". They are so cute.

You don't need an adr to dine in the bar area..although keep in mind, they do use the jiko bar area for overflow..people (including families) that don't have an adr and decide to eat at Jiko last minute. They serve the full menu in the bar area.

I would think this would be an option for you. Like a previous poster stated, it probably depends on the day, time and busy season. I want to commend you for doing this. Not many people are up for dining solo and this shows that you are a confident person. I dine solo in WDW but am still working up to venues such as this. I did Flying Fish last trip and I really want to try Jiko. Thanks for you leadership. Have a wonderful time and great meal!!!

I know this is a bit OT, but I wanted to say that you have to try the lemon-cumin marinated ahi tuna appetizer. It is to DIE for! Jiko is my favorite restaurant as well, and when we were there last month our server (who's also a friend) made us a special appetizer "sampler" with all of the popular items on it and this tuna was the best by far! I'm thinking of making an overnight trip just to have it again! :teeth:

Well thanks, but it's really more a matter of needing a drink, a great snack, and some quiet time alone after spending all day keeping up with a very active 3 year old!

I know there's a bar and I thought it would be fun to sit there for a bit with a drink and an appetizer and maybe talk to the staff or some of the other patrons. I am in LOVE with their flatbreads - and the tuna mentioned above sounds great, too!

I'm thinking that, since I'll be a single going pretty late at night during the slow season, and being willing to sit at the bar, I probably won't have any trouble. Thanks for the thoughts, everyone!

We'll be there in August. I was thinking about maybe trying to just have a late night dessert without an ADR. I'll let you know how that goes.

Of course this is assuming I will have room for MORE dessert after TS dinners every night...

I have waffled back and forth about trying to get an ADR for dinner and I just can NOT decide. We are already 4 TS over the number of credits, so you would think I would be looking for ADRs to CANCEL, not ADD! :rotfl:

"Great Hotels" was just on earlier this month and Samantha Brown sat at the bar by herself. I say go for it!

I had the kenyan coffee barbecued chicken flatbread last time and thought it was out of this world. Between that and the duck/pork firecrackers, I was in heaven! :thumbsup2

Webray is right.

My recommendation to you is to secure an ADR as it will allow you the date/time you wish to dine there. Jiko's is a Signature place....in high demand.

HTH :)
