Has anyone participated in the Jiko Wine Tasting on Wednesdays? I'm thinking of going if they have available dates for when we will be there but I'm curious if it's worth the $25. Thanks!

Does anyone know how you find out the dates it's available . . . absent picking up the phone and calling WDW Dining? I just hate the inquisition whenever you call.

I'm not sure that it's every Wednesday - it seems that the other months only had one date per month. I just sent an email asking when the September dates are so once I get a response I will post. I have a feeling if it's during the time I'll be there I will sign up :thumbsup2

That once a month thing is for their special wine dinners that cost $135. The weekly wine tasting is every wednesday from 3-4. I called Jiko up and left a message on their voicemail and a day later someone called to confirm that they got my reservation. I am going on 9/8 and can't wait!

Excellent - thank you! I think that this sounds like alot of fun so I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow. :goodvibes

I just got confirmation from the manager at JIKO that all Wednesdays in September still have availability for this. I'm planning on the 28th so maybe I'll see one of you there :thumbsup2

My DW and I did this in May, and at $25/person, it is one of the best deals at WDW.

You're at a table with around a dozen other people, you get to taste 3 different South African wines and talk about them with the sommelier, who also talks about the South African wine industry, the table gets a HUGE fruit and cheese plate to have with the wines, and after you get through the wine tasting, you are offered more wine.

Our table went through around 6 bottles of wine all told, which is not too shabby. That averages out to a little over a half-bottle a piece (we had 11 people at the table), and the wines by the bottle were around $39 at Jiko. The artisanal cheese plate runs something like $12 there.

So, the food and drink is worth the $25, the variety of wines is a bonus, and you get a nice atmosphere, some conversation with like-minded winos...er, wine enthusiasts, and a nice background on the South African wine industry.

Then, you can go catch the Culinary Tour of Africa at the Boma desk at 4pm to extend your afternoon of indulgence.

I heard about this on the disney food blog and decided to book it since I've never done a proper wine tasting with cheese plate and all. I booked it for September 28th. My new husband and I will be on our honeymoon. I guess I'll see you there. :goodvibes

Wait - what exactly is involved in this tour experience? How long does it last?
Cost?
