Has anyone used the wine room at Jiko?? I see so many threads about other locations, but I never hear much about this. :confused3 I'm happy with my decision to go with Jiko, but it would great to hear about others' experiences, especially since I've never ate there! So weather it was for a wedding reception, rehersal dinner or private party, I'd like to hear about your experience! I'm also excited b/c the head chef from Le Cellier moved to Jiko! I think that's a great plus too. :thumbsup2

Great question! Thanks for all your help earlier :-). Would love to hear about Jiko. I have also that their food is absolutely wonderful. If anyone has any pics :yay: I would love to see those too! Congratulations!

The food at Jiko is wonderful... but I have to warn you... we had a dinner with some of my relatives there. It was mainly adults in their 50s and 60s. They were all commenting on how "exotic" the menu was. Someone made a crack that there was zebra on the menu. Anyway... the point I am trying to make is that picky eaters might not be adventurous enough for this place. But it is AWESOME!!

I'm not sure if it's the wine room, but we did price out getting some kind of private room there, and I was shocked at how expensive it would be - $2500 for "up to 20 people," and $4000 for "up to 40 people." YIKES!!!

This is probably a dumb question, but is the cost for the private room for the room only, or does it go towards the food (as a minimum)?

I'm pretty sure the cost was for the food as well, but I don't remember if it included alcohol. Plus, this was over a year ago, so I'm sure like everything else at Disney, the price has gone up! It just seemed really steep, considering what we could have done at Ohana or another similar restaurant.

I know that all the supporting dishes (flat breads, apatizers, soup, salad) are more exotic, but the selections for the entres on the catering menu are very middle of the road. The filet with mac & cheese, the lamb shank and the roasted chickent w/mashed potatos are all included, as well as the "catch of the day". The only people who may find it too exotic are DF's mom, dad and grandma. But, even they are good sports about trying new things. If all else fails they can have the chicken :thumbsup2

The $2500 is the minimum expediture. So we'll have somewhere between 18-20 guests (still working that out :scared: ) and I'm looking at the most expensive menu which is $120/person. So even with that we'll be a few hundred shy of the minimum... but drinks count towards the minimum too. So, we'll have no problem reaching it! I'm okay with the price b/c this is exactly what I wanted... an intimate wedding at the happiest place on earth with an AMAZING dinner reception.

I'm just hoping all the 'regular' dining reviews cross over and we receive the same experience in the wine room for a private party.... That's my biggest concern. And I can't seem to find one person who has done a private party there :surfweb: Oh well, I guess I'll be the test subject and I'll just have to report back after.

It sounds great! It's not that expensive if you're treating it as your wedding reception, anyway. It was just too expensive for us to have it as a rehearsal dinner. I'm sure the food and service will be just as outstanding as it is for the regular guests.

Unfortunately I can't help with the private function, but if you're interested in pictures of Jiko's amazing food, I can help you there!

Our appetizer was the lamb patis:

Here is the halibut:

And my favourite, the filet with mac n' cheese:

And our dessert was the flourless chocolate cake (tasted like brownies, and very yummy!):

We loved ALL of it!! :cloud9:

Congrats on your upcoming wedding, and I'm sure Jiko will be amazing! :thumbsup2

You totally have to be our guinea pig and tell us all about your reception! :goodvibes I am sure it's going to be fantastic - everyone agrees the food is amazing, and the room is really neat. It feels very private but not small, and the decor is quite striking. (We sneaked in there to take pictures when the restaurant was closed! Unfortunately they turned out too dark to post...)

I'm happy with my decision to go with Jiko, but it would great to hear about others' experiences, especially since I've never ate there!

MistressOfAllEvil, I dined in Jiko during its official opening night (I was a guest at the resort during opening week). My family's meals were divine and it quickly became our second favorite restaurant (after the GF's Victoria & Albert's).

I have dined at Jiko a few times since, most recently two summers ago. We were celebrating a friend's birthday. The restaurant's head chef knew someone at our table so she came out to chat with us a few times during our meal. She was a wonderful woman. Very personable. But, sadly, she is no longer with Disney. I don't know who the new head chef is, but if he/she is half as decent as Anette Grecchi Gray was, you'll be in good hands.

A few friends of mine dined in the Wine Room about two or three years ago. They had a wonderful time. I'm pretty certain that at least one or two Dis'ers have dined in the Wine Room, too. Perhaps you can search the Restaurant Board for a review (or start a post over there asking for someone to share their experiences with you).

Have fun planning your event!
