We are taking a no-kids trip in December. DW has never been to AKL, so I thought we'd have dinner there one night. I had dinner at Jiko's once (that's the one that's NOT the buffet, right?) and thought it was pretty good. But I'm told Boma is good, too. What's the consensus on these two restaurants?

They are both good, but if you are taking wife with no kids I would go to Jiko.

Jiko, sitdown restaurant, no rushing, time between courses to talk and digest meal. Wonderful wine list.

Boma, buffet, no rushing, but still a faster pace than jiko. You can still get an African wine or beer there.

You can't go wrong with either that you choose, but our vote goes to Jiko.

We love Boma. It is probably one of our two favorites at WDW. But I agree that the atmosphere at Jiko might be nice for a no-kids trip. Check Jiko's menu first before you go to see if you would want to eat there. We have never been to Jiko's because we have never seen anything on their menu that really "jumps out at us".

We didn't like the food at Boma's. The service was great. Now we love Jiko's. Everything we have had there was excellent.

Jiko! DH & I put the kids in daycare that night and went ALONE. There were a couple of families there but mostly just adults...very nice. (not a slam on kids people, just an observation! :) )

At first I saw nothing on the menu that appealed to me and our server recommended the halibut and it was AWESOME!!! The best meal I had all week and we ate well. DH & I are already talking about when we can go back and we were just there 2 weeks ago! :)

Has anyone had the filet with the mac & cheese? That is the only thing that appeals to me so I want to be sure it is good! Patty

I just had the filet w/ mac 'n cheese on 8/26 and it was simply amazing. The food is excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere was beautiful. That being said, we also ate at Boma for dinner and breakfast and had awesome meals there too. But for couples Jiko is your spot! Enjoy whichever you choose, you can't go wrong.

DH and I prefer Boma. We ate at Jiko in March for our anniversary and thought the food was not impressive and the service was awful. I'm hoping it was an off night so we'll probably try it again to give it a second chance. We like the food better at Boma and the service, although a buffet, has been better.

Jikos for a couple, I would think.

The menu at Jiko just didn't appeal to us. While the setting might be more romantic, the choices at Boma were excellent. If you are at all skittish about trying new foods, Boma allows you to sample new things without having to commit to an entire dish. I have to say the decor at both is great. Try scouting out sample menus at allearsnet.com
