Jiko Reviews Please

My wife and I ate at Jiko for the first time last summer, Aug. '07. We have been to Disney 6 times in the 8 years we're together and planning trip number 7 for Christmas break. We really enjoyed it there. The food was amazing and the atmosphere and decor was just as good. We inted to make a return trip.

We always take newbies to Jiko on their first trip and by a long shot, it's always the favorite restaurant for everyone we take. We always order the Taste of Africa and the appetizer sampler to get everyone started. I've probably tried every entree and my favorite is the filet (and I'm not a steak eater) although those short ribs come in a close second.

But my favorite item is the chantarelle soup with pumpkin seeds. No joke, it's worth the outrageous plane fare just to fly across the country to have that soup.

FYI--We had Nassar as our server on our most recent night there and he was excellent.

We just got back and Jiko was by far the BEST dinner we had this trip! We were seated in the wine room, which was a bit more private. Our waiter was Nasir, who we loved. It was our anniversary and he made it a big deal.

We started with the Taste of Africa which was delicious. We also had the bread which was also yummy. We both had the fillet and I kid you not..it was the BEST steak we've ever had! I enjoyed this last trip as well, and I was not disappointed.

Dessert for me was the Tanzanian Cheesecake which was chocolatey heaven and DH had the pistachio creme brulee which he enjoyed.

This is our favorite place to diner and we have decided we can never go to Disney without enjoying Jiko.

Enjoy!

For an appetizer, the Lamb Patis were fabulous. Wow! I loved them. It doesn't get any better than that.

I'm a hard core Foodie, and I've had nothing but wonderful experiences at Jiko. Nassar is my favorite server. The only "down side" is I have not found the desserts to WOW me like the other items on the menu.

This will be our fourth trip to Jiko, and we can't imagine a trip to WDW without a meal at Jiko. It is far and away our favorite restaurant on property. For olive lovers the Kalamata Olive Flatbread is out of this world. We did the sampler on our last trip and may get it again this time. It was so very tasty. Up til now the only entrees we've gotten have been the filet with mac and cheese, because it never disappoints. But this next trip I'll be trying the short rib for the first time and I can't wait. Desserts here haven't wowed me, with the exception of the Tanzanian Chocolate Purses which are no longer on the menu. The wine selection though is delightful. You can't go wrong with a trip to Jiko.

Well DW and Brother went for the first time in March and I have to say, best fine dining experience in the whole park. ( with Le Cellier not far behind ). We all tasted each other's dishes, *everything* was fantastic. The wines were fantastic. The desserts just wonderful and the service as well. This was a top notch place!

Hi everyone.

We are going to Disney for my birthday in May and staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time.

I have never eaten at the AKL before, and I think I am leaning towards trying Jiko over Boma for dinner. I am a vegetarian and my husband eats seafood only.

So, my questions are:

1) Has anyone tried, "Grains, Peas, and Vegetables" and how is it.
2) What is the best seafood entree at Jiko?
3) What is the best dessert at Jiko?
And...
4) As a vegetarian, am I better off going to Boma for dinner?

Thanks for your help!
