We are eating at Jiko for the first time on our next trip and I am super excited as it has always been on my wish list. I am looking for any recommendations on the food other that the Oak Grilled Filet which I know is very well liked. I love a good filet, but I am more intrigued by the other items on the menu and would like some opinions. TIA!!!

So two of the things I was going to recommend don't appear to be on the menu anymore. One dish I really loved that is still there is the wild boar appetizer. Very tasty, the boar was tender and delicious, and it's a unique dish you can't get in many places.

The 'Taste of Africa' bread service was re-imagined, and now all breads and sauces are made in house and is very good. The wild boar app is my favorite dish at WDW. I also always enjoy the maize-crusted fish with tomato-butter sauce, the type of fish often changes, but I have enjoyed it each time I have ordered it.

Great choice eating at Jiko. It is unquestionably one of our favorite places on property. Their apps are always good. On our last trip we loved the dumplings and in the past the wild boar tenderoin was a favorite. The later comes with truffled pap (grit like side) which is one of my favorite things on the menu. If they have it their carrot soup is hands down the best I've ever had. For entrees the short ribs have never disappointed us and their lamb is also quite good. Their fish is also very good, though it changes frequently. Lastly the Kilamanjaro dessert is a thing of majesty

I echo the recommendation on the wild boar appetizer. I'm not sure what got me to try it as wild boar has never been on my to-do list but soooo good!!!!

I have an ADR at Jiko too for our August trip. Really looked forward to it!

I was also wondering about this also. Last time I was there, a few years ago, I had halibut with a "Maize" sauce. I loved it! This morning we made an ADR for our next trip at Jiko, and when I looked on line, I found 3 different menus for Jiko. I'd love to hear any recent recommendations.

The maize-crusted fish, the filet with mac and cheese, the short ribs and the peri-peri chicken are all delicious. The bread service as well. And the atmosphere is lovely too - enjoy!

Inguday Tibs in Brik
Maize-crusted Alaskan Halibut
or
Botswana-style Seswaa Beef Short Rib

Honestly, everything I've ever gotten there has been delicious. Their flatbreads are always good for an appetizer. The only thing I've learned to skip is their desserts; I've tried a few times and nothing has ever been memorable. But drinks, appetizers and entrees have always been a hit!

I am so excited to have a reservation here for December! Plan to take recommendations listed here and try the Wild Boar appetizer! YUM YUM!

Has anyone discovered if you can sit at the wine bar and enjoy pre-dinner there then move to your table for dinner reservation?

You can. If I remember correctly, it's a pretty small bar with ~5 seats and there are also a few bistro tables - however those are often occupied by those waiting for a table but ordering anything in the "lounge." If there isn't room in that bar, just head up to Victoria Falls- usually plenty of seats and a fun atmosphere off the lobby.

Thank you all.....looks like I will be trying the wild boar appetizer :) It is one of the items that really sounds good so I am glad it is well liked.

Thanks!! Finally a plan of mine coming together. :-). Oh one more question. When I drive into the resort area is Jiko located in the building to the right?

Follow the signs for Jambo House when you get to AKL. When you enter the lobby, there is a open area on the right. You have to go down to the bottom floor. Boma is on the left. Jiko is on the right. If you go straight it leads out to the pool.

Yes. It's right in the main building of the AKL (not Kidani). You just go in the main entrance and you'll see a set of stairs 1/4-1/2 way through on the right. Victoria Falls is ~a half flight down and then Jiko and Boma are another flight down.

Try to allow some time to explore the lobby, visit the various observation decks, head out behind the lobby to see some animals on the savannah or sit at the fire pit. At night there's even a spot where they have night vision goggles for animal viewing. We always make a night of it when we go. Have fun!!

Thank you very much! I will plan to arrive early to allow for exploring!

The resort I am staying at is very close to AKL so will take time to freshen up from my park day and the drive over to enjoy AKL.

We are dining here for my birthday in August. It's one of the few remaining restaurants to cross of our never dined at list. Looking forward to it

Disney's site is the best place to find the most recent menu. Did you check there?

Everything is good. The filet is fine, not extraordinary. Satisfying but not something I'd go back for. I'm a steakhouse snob, though.

But my favorite would only work if you are a wine drinker. The wine list is the best I've seen on property, so if you like red wine, this is the place to split a bottle. I have yet to find those African wines locally and they were SO good.
