Hi Everyone! I am so excited to have our first night of our vacation staying at AKL! We love this resort and more so, we love the food!!! Jiko is one of our favorite restaurants on property and we love going there. Sadly, we will only be staying at AKL one night, and that is our arrival night. We arrive at MCO at 5:40pm. I figure 1.5 hours to get to the hotel, so that puts us at 7:15. Provided all goes as planned of course.

We really want to eat at Jiko while we are staying there so we would like to eat there that night. I was thinking of making an ADR for 8:30 to give us extra time and if we are early or on time that will still give us time to check in, go to the room quick, etc. We are going Easter week, so I know places are usually packed, so I don't think just winging it to see if we can walk in would be a good idea. Thoughts? I know I am pushing it, but we would just love to start our vacation eating at Jiko :) I already moved our flight to an earlier time just to give us the possibility - haha!!!

If the plane is late I will know this around 3:30 (take off time) and I can always call then and cancel.

I plan to have a Boma ADR for breakfast the next morning a well before we move over to BWV. I hear it is one of the best breakfasts, so we are excited to try it! Is it similar to Tusker House?

I never book an ADR within 4 hours of our planned arrival time. Too many things can go wrong, and IMO the later in the day you are flying, the greater the likelihood of delays. And this goes double around the holidays when passenger volume increases.

You might get lucky and arrive on time. Or you might not. ADRs have to be cancelled 24 hours ahead of time to avoid the $10/PP fees. If you are OK with possibly getting charged, then go for it. Or try pushing your ADR further back to allow more room for delays.

I would book it. If you don't make it, so long as the restaurant isn't closed, they should be able to accommodate you. We just went to Jiko last week and it was by far the best meal of our trip. The scallops were to die for!!

Not necessarily around holiday time. Jiko is often booked to capacity. I certainly wouldn't count on them taking us later in the evening.
I agree with Minnie Mum. Too many things can and do go wrong on travel day.
But if you are willing to pay the $10/person no show fee if you can't make it, I would go ahead and book the latest ADR you can. ADR's need to be cancelled by 11:59 the night before. So calling at 3:30 won't help you.
Good Luck

I think I am going to book the ADR...I will live in denial for a while and then as it gets close I can always cancel it. I book adr's on Friday so I am in the final countdown of freaking out and planning :) This is my favorite part aside from actually going - haha!!!! I just love it so much, so I will remain positive that all will be well. If it snows in March I will cancel :)

Thanks everyone!

Book it. Jiko is my favorite too. Its worth it. What I would do is dress for dinner before you leave home. This way if you get to AKL later than planned, you can leave your luggage with bell services and go right to the restaurant.

Good idea! We always have a hard time dressing for our Easter trips. We come from NJ so it is always hard to start bundled up and then shed layers. Khakis, polos, and hoodies for the guys, and dresses with leggings for the girls :) I get so excited just thinking about Jiko!!!
