Greetings!

We will be at Jiko next weekend...for probably the 4th or 5th time. It seems that the desserts at signatures change with the seasons...and I know Jiko has gotten rid of my favorite (the doughnuts and coffee ice cream.) I have not been overly impressed with anything I have had since.

If you have eaten there recently, I am wondering if there were any standouts for you...

Disney's site lists the following:

Cape Malva Pudding
Amarula Crème Brûlée
Cheesecake, Caramel and Toffee
Tanzanian Chocolate Crèmeux
Orange and Anise Olive Oil Cake

The Cheesecake and the Cremeux sound the most appealing, as I'm not a big creme brulee fan (and I think that's what I had last time.)

I loved the Amarula crème brûlée. I'm not even a fan of chocolate, but I thought this was an amazing dessert. Imagine a liqueur kind of like Irish creme but with fruity notes instead of nutty, then turn it into a crème brûlée on top of a dark chocolate base. So rich and decadent. It was the perfect way to end our last meal at Jiko. I'll definitely order it again if it's still there when we visit next.

My mom and her entire family are from South Africa, so I've been lucky enough to spend a lot of time there (my grandparents, uncle, cousins, etc still live there).

With that said, the malva pudding tasted exactly like malva pudding I had in South Africa. The actual pudding itself had an almost spongy, caramel-like flavor, and it was served with a creamy custard sauce. The mango and apricot accompaniments provided a tart, fruity contrast to the rest of the dish. I love this dessert because it's an upscale dish with authentic South African flavors.

Here's my pic of it:

I may have to try this one...the Jiko description didn't thrill me, but the fact that you say it is an authentic flavor profile flavor, really interests me....

Sorry Sweet Melissa, I'm just not a creme brulee girl:confused3

Definitely try the Malva Pudding. We were shocked by how much we loved it. It is exactly as described...caramel-like, sponge-y, with some spice notes almost like gingerbread? We practically fought over it :lmao:

Ditto. I made the mistake of sharing it instead of getting my own!

Sure, it doesn't look like much, but the hidden layer of chocolate underneath made all the difference!

We have never had dessert at Jiko. It's always been a mix of either being full and not in the mood for dessert at that time or nothing really tickles our fancy. On nights when we eat at Jiko we usually head over to Ghirardelli's at DTD for dessert.
