Flying into JFK May 2...and then heading into Manhatten. We are 5 people...what will we pay and any ideas on our best bet? Cab? Bus?

Also, what Museums are 'must sees' in NY?

Thanks!:thumbsup2

Cabs hold a maximum of four adults. It's a flat rate $45 to the city from JFK plus tolls and tip. Wait I think that went up last year.

SUPERSHUTTLE (a van service) is $19 for the first member of a group, $11 for each other member. You can get the whole van for about $120, or you'll share it with others. Reserve them in advance. There are plenty of car services too that you can arrange in advance. They used to come in and hold up little signs with your name on them, remember, but now you just call them on your cel and they pull up outside. You'll have to ask for something larger than a sedan, though.

Metropolitan Museum of Art is a no miss. If there are kids involved, the American Museum of Natural History. There are plenty of smaller galleries in SOHO and around the city that are eccentric and free.

We take the Air Train to the LIRR (Jamaica Station). The LIRR brings you right to Penn Station in Manhattan. From there you can catch a subway to anywhere (get a daily metrocard for $7 pp). It costs $12 pp (or less depending on what time of day you're traveling) for a one-way trip and it only takes 30 minutes at most. Look it up on the JFK website!

Take a cab from JFK to NYC, less hassle, more convenient and $45.00 flat rate.

IMHO, the Museum of Natural History is wonderful for kids and adults alike.
The only thing is in order to see everything it will take hours. If you don't have hours to spare, go online to their website and pick/choose which areas that will interest you the most.
(the dinasour exhibit is wonderful, and so is planetarium, a must see)

Manhattan Flat Fare is $45 to the first destination (plus tolls and tip). The taximeter and receipt should relfect that this trip is a flat fare. There is no $1 peak time or 50-cent night surcharge for these trips.*

Four passengers (five in minivans) is the limit for New York City Cabs.

Must see Museums:

1. Metropolitan Museum of Art - http://www.metmuseum.org/
2. American Museum of Natural History - http://www.amnh.org/
3. Museum of Modern Art - http://moma.org/
If you have time these are fun:

1. Madame Tussaud's New York Wax Museum - It's FUN! But not a must see.

2. Museum of Television and Radio - www.mtr.org

3. Bodies…The Exhibition - At South Street Seaport - http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/

Have a terrific trip to NYC! :)

Definitely cab it!! If you're going with more than even 1 person, the difference in costs between a cab and the train/shuttle is really meaningless, and the drive into the city is much faster. Little tip: after you pick up your luggage, make sure you head out to the actual cab stand and get a yellow cab. DO NOT go with one of the gypsy cab drivers who stand in baggage claim looking to "help you" with a car. You WILL get ripped off, guaranteed!

As far as museums, it really depends on what you like. I typically tell visitors that my personal 3 "must do" museums would be the Museum of Natural History, MoMA, and the Met, but there are so many, you are sure to find one that suits your tastes. Have fun!
