Hi
Can anyone offer me some advise? We are travelling indirect for the first time this Xmas. The whole trip is travelling American Airlines. Has anyone got experience with American Airlines. What is travelling with them like? We have use mainly virgin with one trip on monarch.

Another question is we have a 6 hour layover on our return at JFK at terminal 8. What can we do to pass the hours? We have two little ones 5 and 8.

I'd welcome any help or tips for traveling indirect.

Thanks

they're as bad as the other carriers. Don't expect top of the line service, but expect correct and efficient.

I'll make it quick : OUCH !!!

the only thing you can do is try and change your ticket to a shorter layover (if your fare allows it without fees)

other than that, you'll need much patience.
here's a link to that terminal's directory http://www.jfkshopsat8.com/

be prepared for a very long and painful wait (sorry I'm not good at breaking the news gently with a lie)
try to minimize that by packing a carry on with lots of activities for the kids.
You have too short a layover to do anything like a new york visit, and it will be quite long to stay at the airport.

You might want to check what can be done at other JFK terminals (landside) like a sit down restaurant for example, but you'd have to go through security again, so keep your boarding passes and passports, and watch after your carry ons.

We are doing this trip in August with a 6 hour layover on return at JFK too, luckily only one 5 year old to entertain and 9 of us to help!
I will report back with how we manage, hopefully will help you a little. Its our first time indirect so a little nervous so happier with a longer lay over just in case lol

I look forward to hearing back!

I didn't know you could move around the airport! The new delta area looks amazing (not sure if we would be able to go there though if we're not travelling with delta!

you can, but you'd need to go through security again and keep your carry ons with you and haul them around for 6hrs.
and if anything should happen (like running late) you'd be on your own as the airline would bail out on you.

I did a 4 hour lay over there last May... I kept myself busy with shops, food and the kindle and it went fairly quickly. Might be different with children though

American Airlines are absolutely fine. They are *probably* one of the better value for money carriers (as in, they're the same as all the other carriers but they charge more reasonable rates so you resent them slightly less ;) ). It'll be a long and boring wait at JFK so load up on books, activities etc.

Thanks! I wish it were longer so we could leave the airport and do something! It's kind of a very long wait but not long enough for a few hours in NY
