Which is the best place to buy jewelry on the Western itin? I know on the Eastern it was less expensive on St. Martin than it was at St. Thomas. I'm assuming with taxes etc. that Key West would NOT be the best. My guess is Grand Cayman. How do the prices compare to say St. Martin? What about Cozumel? We will be cruising over my birthday and I'm already buttering up DH to buy me a pretty!

Last year on the Western I bought a plat. and tazanite ring in Key West, sapphire and diamond ring on Grand Caymen and a pink sapphire bracelet on the ship. It was my b'day week too.
I found the prices at Cozumel to be very expensive that's why no jewelry there. We could get silver jewelry much cheaper at home. Some of the stores in Key West will sell tax and duty free, go to one of the ships shopping talks and they should have a list of approved stores that allow this. Plus at the talks you could win a yummy prize. We won Key Lime taffy and something else.

and what you are willing to spend.
I personally did not even bother to look in key west, in the states you have to pay sales tax etc and key west has so many tourists that jewelry is not a big staple/commodity for their economy.
Grand Cayman I did do some comparision shopping (and please DO know your stones etc before you buy so you can tell if you are getting taken,., if you are buying diamonds insist on looking at each stone in a loop etc) Anyhow GC is a wealthy island. I did find one ring that I almost bought but there was no negiotiating going on, and yes it was probably about $200. less than I would have spent at home it was not a great deal. So we passed.
In Cozumel MAKE SURE you go to an approved jeweler.. Diamonds International is one of my favorites, they have a New York office so you have some leway in the states... never pay the mount they ask ! Walk away they knwo then the ships leave. I got a gorgeaous .75 ct. diamond band that was very unique to match my wedding set. All the stones were of exceptional qualit (verified at home by our jeweler as vs and s1 stones) They started out wanting $1400.00 we went round and round, got them down to 900.00 left and came back right before the ship left and got the ring for 825.00! AT home it appraised for $2100.00!!!
The most important thing is to deal with companies DCL endoreses and KNOW THE VALUE of what you are purchasing!

Ann,

Any jewelry stores on the Western route that have good prices on David Yurman? It's our 25th anniversary (silver) on our cruise coming up & DH wanted to buy me a piece of silver for the occasion. I just luuuuvvv Yurman :D

I know where to shop in St. Thomas & St. Martin, but I don't have a clue on the Western route.... help, please!

Thanks!

If you go to the shopping talk they will tell you where you can get a good deal on Yurman. Make sure you stick to approved stores as unfortuneatly some people are not as honest as others. With approved stores you have recourse and DCL vouches for their integrity. I personally love Diamonds International-why? Because they have an upgrade policy. You can bring in your piece with your sales slip to any of their stores (they are on the eastern too plus other sites such as Alaska) and trade in for a nicer one! They are a very classy store so I would guess they would carry D.Y. but I can't gaurentee that.
