Jetty Park @ Cape Canaveral--Seashells & How Far From the Radisson???

Hi! We will be going on the Eastern 7 day and I posted a thread here in hopes that we would be able to find some shells on the beaches on the Eastern cruise. Well, it does'nt sound like there is much to be found there but someone here recommended that if we had time before or after the cruise that we could find some great shells at Jetty Park by the port.

Can anyone tell me how far Jetty park is from the Radisson and would we be able to feasibly get a cab to take us there. Problem is we don't have alot of time before ---we get to the Radisson early evening so it will be dark----I don't know maybe that's a good time to collect shells??? Then the morning of our cruise we have a 10:00 shuttle to take us to the port so we would have to go early in the morining. If anyone here knows about this area of the port and if this would be a good idea or not I would appreciate it.

Our DD 7 is obsessed with shells and wants to get some to take home from the beaches plus she is also doing a Science Project on shell collections so this is very important to her!!

Another question that came to mind is if we found some before the cruise would they let us take them on the ship and most importantly take them home??? Is this a customs issue??? Of course we would'nt take anything alive but I'm not sure.

We will be going to WDW after the cruise is over but I don't know if our Florida Tours driver would stop there for us before we go to WDW without charging anything additonal.

Hello there,\Seashell collecting has been very sparce here in Brevard County since the stomr - you would think it would have washed them ashore, but wrong - they either buried up against the seawalls or taken by the waters and washed back to sea - I have gone looking in the past several months and have found very little - now there is a seashell shop in Cocoa Beach that has some great buys on them, BUT they are not from here - if you do not have transportation to get to the Jetties, it would be very hard to walk since traffic is very heavy and you would have to cross over some serious areas - the Jetties is about one mile from the Radisson - I know the above sounds so discouraging, but I do know the walk can be dangerous - now once you are accross, the traffic wouldn't be so heavy - you can walk on the street beside McDonald's down to North Atlantic, turn left at the light and head North - keep bearing right as you pass a great deal of construction - you will see signs for the Ron Jon caribe and walla you are there - well close since the beach is beside RJ's and all the way to the back - I will be most happy to get her some and you can either pick up them at the shop or send for them.
Anyhow sorry this note wasn't more cheerful or encouraging.

Shirley-- Thanks so much for your post!! I knew that you would know this information but also know that you plan on leaving for Key West soon so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that it was you that responded. Thanks again for trying to help me with the Radisson a while back! I must admit I have been regretting every day that I did'nt have time to call you to do a basket for our DD--but now it's too late. You are so kind with the shell offer but I don't know how we would be able to get them---we are coming in to the Radisson on Friday and have FL Tours bringing us so we will go straight there and have no transportation once they drop us off.

Do you think we could get a cab to take us there?? And if so how long of a drive would it be---maybe 15 min or so??? Would they drop us off and wait for us there until we were done??? We could do this Saturday morning but it would have to be so early before our shuttle so I don't know??

Thanks again for your help with this---if it works out for our DD to even get one tiny shell "she says" she will be very excited. I'm sure she will be looking on every beach we go to. God Bless and have a great trip to Key West!!!!
