Jetted Tubs in DVC Villas

I love the idea of having a whirlpool tub in my villa HOWEVER, I know that these types of tubs suck water and dead skin into the intake. I have one at home and have to run the tub full of bleach and hot water when I'm done to make sure the piping is clean.

My question, when they turn the rooms over, do they clean these out really well? I don't want to slip into the tub one night and turn it on only to have the last guests dead skin and dirt push out of the jets.

No they don't and DVC members that are concerned about that clean them out themselves with products brought from home.

They were always cleaned very well when we used ours. I know what you mean though, it is sort of gross to think about the possibilities!

You can always just fill it with nice hot water yourself, turn the jets on, then drain it.

But we never had any problems with any of them during our many DVC stays.

I should add - that I just know they don't do a full bleach cleaning, filling up the whole tub every time they clean the room. But personally, I have not felt the need to do any extensive cleaning of the tubs in our villas. We have also never had an issue. But I have read many posts about DVC members cleaning the tubs themselves with bleach.

Last year we had a 1 bedroom villa. I brought a dishwashing tab from home and threw it in the tub with hot water. Ran the jets, gunk shot out. The next day black stuff had oozed out of the jets down the sides of the tub. I never was convinced it was clean, so none of us used the tub. I am super squeamish about things like that anyway, so I am not sure how many dishwasher tabs and cycles of hot water it would have taken for me to be OK with sitting in there.

I stayed at BLT last summer and I used the dishwasher cleaner from the villa to clean the jets. There was no need, as I didn't see anything nasty come out. We enjoyed it all week!

They surface clean them only, so yes, as most DVC members do, you will have to clean the jets yourself.

Only stayed in a villa once but the tub was fine. The idea of sleeping on pillows other people have used freaks me out more. If you really want to go the germ and gunk route...think of all the railings you touch and how many people have wiped their nose or scratched, well anything, before they touched that railing.

We stay in the BCv alot and I always fill the tub and run the jets for a few minutes to make sure they are clean.neveer had an issue

I try not to think about that. The dirty jets grosses me out a little more because you're sitting naked in a tub and other guests dead skin could be entering your orifices. Plus, you can see the gunk.

Well certainly if you see water getting gross from the jets or see any chunks or ooze...by all means, get some bleach and clean it. I just think if you freak out about the tubs you should freak out about railings and whatnot too. If you touch the railing and rub your nose or touch your eyes or open a piece of gum and stick it in your mouth, you're still getting germs in your orifices lmao: sorry that word has always made me laugh). We have immune systems for a reason and you'll likely be fine.

Yeah the pillow thing is a bit gross and then we all know about those blankets and bedspreads!

Of course my biggest fear on the pillow route is using one my own son has used, the kid drools all night long! Love him dearly and have cleaned up his orifices more times than he probably cares to acknowledge but I am not sleeping on his pillow ever!

I really like the idea of a dishwasher tablet or packet in there and just let those jets do their thing.

Fill tub, add bleach and/or dishwasher detergent. Run for 10 minutes if nothing visible drain. Fill again and rinse. If gunk comes out drain call housekeeping. They will use a cleaner in the jets. The smell is strong so you may want to call just before leaving the room for a while.

I've stayed many DVC villas, I use the tubs every time and I've never felt the need to clean the tub/jets, and I've never seen any gunk come out of the jets.

I did once stay at another timeshare and was given a unit that clearly had not been used in a long time. Filled the tub, turned it on and all sorts of black gunk streamed into the water. I thought it had something to do with the lack of use, and seem to think that I don't have the same issues at DVC because they are used far more frequently.

I am far more worried about the bedspreads....the first thing I usually do in ANY hotel is pull it off the bed and throw it in the corner or the closet.

And for what it's worth, I'd be inclined to think that a public hot-tub is FAR worse than an in room jacuzzi that gets filled with fresh water each time you use it.

Don't stay at BCV either....just think about all that dead skin that gets sloughed off the bottom of people's feet in the sandy bottom of SAB!

I used a cascade dishwasher packet as well, filled the tub, added the packet, ran the jets for 10 min. while unpacking, never saw anything, drained, filled again, ran the clean water through for 10 min. - no problems at all the whole 10 days.
