About a month ago, i agonized over whether to spend 158 r/t on Continental for October or wait for JetBlue.
I am glad i didnt wait!!!
When i booked the Continental fare, it was from EWR (Newark) to MCO from 10/18 -10/26 for 158.....
When i saw that JB was booking for Oct. i decided to torture myself and look at what i could have paid....

129 one way!!!! For a total of 258 pp.... 100.00 more than what i paid for Continental! Some people have been getting good fares from JB with the new fares, i wonder why EWR is so high?Even Continentals fares are still less... theyve gone up but only10-20 dollars...

I totally agree. I am waiting for Nov. hours but figured I would look to see what they are getting for Oct. and geesh, it was almost $300 for Boston to MCO. YIKES!! It does not give me much hope for Nov.

I have always wanted to try Jet Blue but have never done so because I always been able to beat their fare by a very large margin.

Although now that Song is gone, who knows?

It does appear the days of the $105 RT LGA-MCO, which I got from Song for September 2004, are over.

For that dates I tested in October I was getting in the $270 range round-trip, non-stop, which is not that great. I am also waiting for November, but closer to Thxgiving, so I expect I'll need to pay more. I'd be happy with $150 one-way, but expect it'll be more like the $300 each way Delta is offering for my dates. :sad2: Still, I'd prefer to go on JetBlue, with the TVs to keep the kids occupied during the flight and the great service.

I too have been testing the waters, so to speak and every fare is coming up $129 - whether you fly out of JFK or Newark..... I'm seriously not happy as this is a huge increase....just checked expedia for my dates and came up with $212 per person round trip (Continental out of Newark)- problem is - I really, really love JetBlue.. if I have to change my flight - they don't charge an arm & a leg - their planes are excellent and pretty much on time...

so do I bite the bullet and spend the extra money or do I switch? I'll tell you though, if this is the future of airtravel prices, I may actually have to cut down my number of visits to the mouse! :sad2:...or move to Florida!!

I'm also flying out of Newark. I booked with Jet Blue several months ago for my trip this month because they were the lowest ($250 per person round trip). I didn't like the late night arrival I chose, but it was the lowest fare. I checked just about every day to see if the fare went down, which it did at one point so I called JB and they gave me a credit for the difference. When an earlier flight finally became available at the same fare, I made the change and used my credit for the change fee. It all worked out in the end.

Sorry if this message is confusing (and long!).

that were released today. I had a choice of Newark at $197 rt or JFK at $167. I would have preferred JFK for the price, but dh hates to do that drive. So when I called JetBlue and was told if the fares dropped, I could get a credit and we're also travelling down in November, I bit the bullet and purchased the Newark fares. Now I have to check daily to see if they drop them and call for any credits. It's much easier with 2 kids to go locally rather than drive to NY, especially when coming home at the end of the trip.

Although I'd rather have the $120 in my pocket. But hoping for a fare drop as we get closer to the dates.

Hmmm, I think I'd take sanity over the $120 savings, so I'd opine you made the right choice here. The extra 30-45 (or more in traffic) to get all the way over to JFK can't be a fun trip. Heck, getting to JFK from Manhattan is no picnic. :headache:

Glad you got a fare that suits you. I am hoping for similar luck with my November fares, if they would ever get here. :goodvibes

You know, pumpkinboy, it's interesting. I grew up in Queens and we flew out of LGA or JFK all the time. Never thought about it. Now that we live in NJ, of course you hope to fly out of Newark. But I honestly often feel more comfortable out of JFK since I'm so familiar with the airport and the roads, not being a native New Jerseyan. Every time we go there, I drive, since the minute I go over the GWB, I get into NY driving mode. DH is just not as comfortable and frankly, if I can end up getting a credit against our November fares (hoping that our Sept fares drop), I'll be just fine.

I do however, even with the rising cost of gasoline, find it interesting that the fares for travel during hurricane season should be higher than fares for travel during the Easter holiday. We're flying down on Saturday to WDW and I got a fare of $165 out of LGA on Song. That's lower than I found on JetBlue out of JFK for September. And next week is really peak season.

So let's all hope for some sort of fare drop for all of us. And thanks for your words of support. I feel better knowing people don't think I was crazy for paying more for going out more locally.

hope for some sort of fare drop
Hope, sure, but don't count on it. Even JetBlue lost money this past quarter. Any airline that didn't buy their fuel for today five years ago loses money on every airline ticket they sell at the fares they've been charging.

Well, I for one, just decided to go with it. I've been researching fares for months and although it is more $ than I wanted, I got exactly the flight times I wanted and am out of Logan. Other area airports would have been such a hassle for us. If this is what they need to charge to keep flying, and keep flight times from changing daily and give me great service from Logan then that's what I'll pay. A bargain is not always a bargain if they move the times around and cancel flights with no notice so you're stressed out for months. Now that being said, hopefully, since my times are perfect, they won't change much! :goodvibes

Boston- MCO on Jetblue.. I just purchased non stop round trip tx for $89 each way mid Sept. Thought that was pretty good considering Delta was between $233-$255. And with Delta now you don't know if you'll get the tv's... :cheer2: :cheer2:

I noticed that myself. I am wondering what I'm going to do for December once they release the fares. It looks like they are charging $129 each way which is more than I want to spend but since I'm bringing two young kids, I am thinking it might be worth it because of the TVs on the planes. Also, they have great arrival and departure times. I'm thinking since I am shelling out X amount on a vacation, it might be worth a few extra hundred for a better experience. Hmmmm....

They told me their base price from bos-mco was $89 and the price goes up as the categories are taken. I called & booked our air 2 days before it was even published on the internet. I had been waiting for mid Sept. to come out.. You may want to call and ask about that.

*idea*** instead of paying a couple hundred extra dollars to fly Jetblue.. they have at BJs an audiovox 7" portable dvd player. Comes with the battery, adapter for regular outlet, cigarette lighter adapter, cables to use it with a tv, and headphones for $129.99 (we have it and its great!)

You can get a splitter for the headset port at radio shack $2-3 so that you can plug in two headsets. It is very small to carry, bring the charger and you can charge it at the hotel, or using the regular outlet adapter plug it in at the airport so the kids can watch it while waiting for the plane.
It also comes with cords to hook it up to a tv so that you can use it just as a dvd player and watch it through the tv, and you can plug it in so that you aren't using the batteries.

Also alot of airlines have powerports in selected rows in coach cabin. You plug it the dvd player into that and don't even need the battery. (We do this when we fly American, etc)

If space is an issue for packing: the kids can bring earbuds, and in a small cd case you can put a ton of movies! :woohoo:

We bought it a couple years ago and paid $399 for it..can't believe the price now..
