JetBlue Credit Question

My wife and I have a large amount of credit with JetBlue that needs to be spent by February 2022. Still not feeling comfortable about flying to places (We take care of my 86 and 90 year old parents) is there a way to get this date extended? A phone call…email? Or is there a way to “book a trip” to then cancel it in hopes of extending our travel time?

Thanks for all help and advice!

I’m not certain but you may only have to book something with your credit by Feb 2022. You may not have to fly by that date. That’s how it worked a few years ago when I had to cancel a trip.

You do not need to fly by Feb 2022 just book a flight by that date. FYI customer service on JB has been less than good lately so i would suggest just booking something online calling is a nightmare for wait and help. Been flying them for many years being I have yet another credit due to delayed luggage and a lot of miles as we have (for another month maybe as this is being cancelled) the JB card for free luggage next time will be the last until they get their act together.

Curious if you called and got a definite answer. We also have a large credit to be used by March 2022. We are driving down next month and March 2022 (taking a long/er trip and need the car). If we don't have to travel by March 2022, we might be able to pick some random time down the road too.

I need to read my email again.

One huge perk with JB credits is you can book a flight for anyone with them. A friend, another family member, they are not tied to the names of the original passengers. I am "stuck" with $115 in SW credits for me and another $115 for my son, expring early next year. Best i can do is let them expire, pay $100, and get $15 in LUV vouchers.

I called a few months ago & was told that I only had to book new flights by March '22.

That wasn't good enough for me given that they had cancelled our flights & cut my city from most of their routes (including Orlando, where we had been scheduled to fly), so I ended up disputing my payment to them via my credit card company, and it's still in dispute. Had to dispute because I had paid with a credit due to changing a flight, but imo if you cancel our flights & it's now impossible to fly you where we want to go due to your massive route cutbacks, you should just be decent & refund the money. Am finished forever with JetBlue & all discount airlines.

The general rule for using jetblue travel credit is
  • you only have to book the flight before expiration date, not travel before the expiration date
  • if you cancel the flight booked, it will return to you as travel credit with the same previous expiration date, thus you can not work around the expiration date this way.
  • In fact if you cancel a flight booked with travel credit of an earlier expiration date. You will loss the travel credit.

Can you change a flight booked on expired travel credits instead of canceling and losing them?

I had a Jetblue credit that was going to expire next week. I just went on this morning and booked my son's ticket to come for Christmas next month. You just need to book by that date. As an aside, if you book the cheapest "blue basic" by 10/31, there are no change fees if you need to change it -which is why I booked his today. (I don't think there are change fees normally on the other fares)

Generally, airlines require you to book your reservations prior to the deadline, but the actual travel date could be sometime after. They are wise to those trying to 'game' the system so booking and cancelling will most likely not extend the deadline date. Might also check the official airline website since you are likely not the only person with that question.

I have over 200,000 points in my trueblue account. Just wondering if anyone knows if they ever expire? Last time we flew Jetblue was 8/2019. Have no immediate plans to travel via plane!

I contacted customer service and was told that you can reschedule a flight booked on expired travel bank credits. You however cannot cancel the flight and extend your travel bank. If you cancel instead of rescheduling you forfeit.

Called this morning about my credit expiring 3/2022. I was told that I need to book a flight by that date. Happy about that since we did not take advantage of the credit for our trip last week (we drove).

I went ahead and booked us for a flight in October 2022. She/Jetblue said we can change flight after March 2022 - fees apply - but if we cancel after March 2022, we are out of the credit (except the additional few dollars I paid for balance and luggage).

A little early to book our flight but since I made my reservation for October, hoping all goes well and we are set to go.
