Can anyone tell me if my 17 year old ds and his 17 year old gf can do this excursion if I am on my own jet ski and provide written permission for my son to drive his own. My sons gf can be a passenger. Would appreciate any one who can help me!! :)

Thanks,,,,Tracy

This is what their policy states:

To ride, you must be at least 8 years old. To drive, you must be at least 18 years old. Guests ages 16 or 17 years old who wish to drive may do so with written authorization from a parent or guardian. Riders will board watercraft from the water.

It doesn't state whether or not a 16 and 17 year old can have a passenger though. Your best bet would be to call or e-mail them at (877) 566-0968 or dcl.shore.excursions@disneycruise.com .

couple of notes about this excursion (we just did it Tuesday).....

They are wave runners not jet skis (for those that actually know the difference)....

You do out into the ocean 1 mile or more, and the waves can be a bit choppy (most people have only used wave runners on fairly calm rivers or lakes so just be prepared).

Thank you both......wave runners = sit down, jet ski's=stand up????????
Exactly.

We did this excursion in August. My DD (8yrs) rode with me. It was the highlight of her trip. It is a do not miss trip whether you ride single or double.

ivanova,

How was it? Worth the money?
Absolutely!! It was the highlight of our cruise, at least for DH and myself. DD (14) is a little seasick prone and refused to take her sea bands on the wave runners ... and regretted it (was feeling just a touch woozie).

This is one excursion we will definitely do again!!!

Do you know if these can be reserved 90 days out or is this one that has to be done on the island? I vaguely remember there is one excursion that was first come first serve.

Cheers,
Grumbo

apparently it USED to be first come, first serve no advance ressies ... but we were able to reserve this 60 days out (before the change to 90 days out).

We were also able to book 60 days out but it took me 3 phone calls to DCL to get someone to book this excursion. The first 2 DCL members told me that you had to reserve in person on the island. When we went, they were not booked. They were doing walk ups.
I was also charged wrong on my disney account for this excursion. I was charged for 2 extra people. They did credit my account - no thanks to my dh for not paying attention to our bill.
Reading this thread made me remember that I haven't developed my pictures from this excursion. Picking up pictures this afternoon - can't wait to see them.

fortunately we had a CM that knew the excursion & how to book it right.

three of us did it (one single, one double). so we booked the single for DH and double for me, and NOTHING for DD. she just had to tag along and ride on my wave runner with me as the 2nd person.

so be careful, if you want to ride a single wave runner as a double, sign up just ONE person for the excursion and then bring along the 2nd person.

Exactly.

LOL! That's a precise answer but not accurate. :D

WaveRunner is the brand name for Yamaha personal watercraft - whether they be sit-down or stand-up models. Jet Ski is the brand name for a Kawasaki brand personal watercraft again regardless of whether we're talking about stand-up or sit-down models.

ivanova....so you paid for a single 90. and the double 165. right?

sam....thanks :) i feel foolish

You shouldn't. After all, we all know a Xerox is a copy - not a brand of copier - and a Coke is any dark carbonated drink - not something produced by the Coca-Cola Company. ;)

Oh - and if you're Mickey Mouse, you're simple, not a certain character. :teeth:

Likewise, I've seen personal watercraft referred to as "Jet Ski and "WaveRunner" regardless of the manufacturer. I suspect it's because Kawasaki and Yamaha were the earliest, successful manufacturers of PWC.

TooPure4u - yes we paid $95 plus $160 for the three of us to do the excursion.

And to clarify, regardless of name or manufacturer, these are the "sit down" types of models. :teeth:

I'm glad to hear that you can now book this tour ahead of time. When my eleven-year-old DS and I signed up for it this summer, you had to book it through the excursion desk once on board the ship.

By the way, it was a blast! I'm sure I'll try to book it again on our next cruise.

If you are not used to PWCs, note that maneuvering one of these through mild chop for nearly an hour can be a bit tiring. After bounding across the waves at a good clip, my arms were actually a little sore after the ride. But given the chance, I would probably have climbed right back on board! :teeth:

Do you think it would be too cold for this tour the first week in January? I thought maybe if we booked the last one of the day, 2:45pm and then headed right back to the ship it might not be too bad. It's just DH and myself.
