Jet Blue credits for lower airfare can't be applied

Today, I just checked my airfare from Jetblue and it was lowered then what I paid so as usual I called to make it a credit.
The agent at Jetblue said that it can't be applied because there isn't enough seats left at that price.
That is the first time that this happen to me.
What do you think about that, Jetblue experts?

Interesting. It makes sense - each fare bucket (i.e. price) represents a limited number of seats. Apparently there aren't four (?) seats at the lower fare, so it's sort of understandable. Irritating to the passenger, yes, but understandable.

So you got no credit? I would think if you had 4 seats booked, and they only had 2 at the lower price, you would get the credit on those 2 seats.

I thought about that - I bet it's because the OP has one single reservation for all the seats.

When JetBlue provides a credit for a fare drop, they actually cancel the original reservation and create a new one. I wouldn't be surprised if the remaining available fares were higher than what the OP paid. This would require the CSR to book X seats at the lower price and Y seats at the higher price, which may have been, total, more than the original total payment.

That is correct. If you have 3 seats booked at $74 and the price goes down to $66, there has to be THREE seats available at the $66 rate or there is no adjustment. This is why alot of folks book separately. When we are traveling with 6 I generally book 2 sets of THREE itinerary just in case only 3 seats get discounted. So when you check your airfare, remember to put in the amount of seats you have bought on your itinerary to see if all of them come up discounted. Jetblue was correct.

Actually this is also the same for SouthWest too.

Thank you so much.

You are so great here on the disboards.

As you have said, I booked 9 seats on one reservations so that is why it is difficult to have a credit.

Next time I won't do that.

Thank you for taking time to answer my question.

By the way, Jetblue is great anyway.

You're welcome.

Thank YOU for not getting angry at us for not giving you the answer you hoped. I do like n2mm's suggestion - book in smaller groups. You could even open several browser windows and do each step in sequence: select the flights in screen one, then select the (same) flights in screen two, and repeat in screen three. When you get to the summary page, click the "accept these terms" box on each page before moving to the next step; select your seats on each screen; process the payment on each screen (note that your bank's fraud department may well try to get in touch with you, seeing three probably identical/relatively large transactions).

You can call and see if your reservation can be separated. This may help if there are lower fares in the future.

There is a downside, if the airline cancels your flight they'll try to keep your entire party together but if you have multiple reservation you could wind up on different flights.

That is the exact raison I made one reservation for all of us.

We are Canadians and I don't want my party to be split.

C'est la vie.

Then, I checked Jetblue for 9,

That's great. I love JB credits. I'm holding flight reservations for August, October and December and check daily -- plus I use Yapta. I've not gotten any credits for a long time, but I do have pretty low rates right now. From $66-74 for each flight each way out of Dulles. Of course I would love more credits, so I still watch.

We too were able to get $102 in credits for our August flights (3 tickets). Booked at $89 and then they dropped to $62. My mom booked for $134 and then it dropped to $62--she got $74 in credit on one ticket!
