Fyling Jet Blue for the first time in a few weeks. I have a beach umbrella that is in it's on carrying case. It is very slender, maybe about 36 inches long and comes with a strap. I can carry it on my shoulder. I was wondering if I would be allowed to use this as my carry on.

From Jet Blue:

Each customer may bring one bag that fits in the overhead bin plus one personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.) that fits under the seat in front of you.

Your personal item must not exceed 17"l (43.2 cm) x 12.5"w (31.8 cm) x 8"h 20.3 cm) in order to fit under the seat in front of you.

To fit in the overhead bin, your item must not exceed:

* for our Airbus A320: 26 inches (66 centimeters) length x 18 inches (45.72 centimeters) width x 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) height
* for our EMBRAER 190: 24 inches (60.96 centimeters) length x 16 inches (40.64 centimeters) width x 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) height

Oh ok, thanks. Funny it you look at it, it looks a heack of alot smaller then some of those rolling suitcases and huge duffel bags that people carry on. I won't chance it.

but those rolling suitcases fit wheels first into the overheads, so three bags can go in each overhead bin. That umbrella would have to go lengthwise so nothing else would fit flat in that overhead.

True, but it's so slender that it would fit laying across or in front of three suitcases with no problem.
