We have saved for our WDW vacation for 5 years.:goodvibes

We have our resort booked, tickets paid for, ADR's in place and Jet Blue wanted to move our flight to another day.

We bought our flight tickets back in November 2011.

They said they overbooked our flight.
:mad:How dare they.
I said no way - bump someone else off.

Anyone else have this issue with Jet Blue ?

Were they willing to compensate you somehow?

In the end if they don't get volunteers then they will choose who to rebook

 Where's I'm from, "bumping off" is a bit more final.:faint:

ETA: I hope it all works out.

It would seem that those who purchased late would be bumped before earlier dates. :confused3

If you read other threads here (and other sites) there are people who try to increase their chances of being bumped (in order to get the compensation).

In terms of who they choose to bump, there a lot of factors - how many people are in the party (a party exactly matching the number of people they need to bump is ideal), are they connecting (this can be good - more options for new routes or bad - now need to re-book two flights), what fare class are they, do they have status with the airline, plus more.

In this case, the OP said "no", so no harm done (assuming that they find volunteers - which they usually do).

I flew Jetblue in March and April and they DO overbook flights. For a long time I thought they were the best airline going, after my spring flights I know better. Best of luck to you, hope you have a great trip.

If they do now overbook, they really need to change their web page.

I don't understand why you are upset. You said no to being bumped and I'm sure JetBlue was able to find another "volunteer."

You know, JetBlue does not overbook, so I'm wondering what happened?

We do not overbook our flights; therefore, everyone who pays for a flight will be guaranteed a seat.

It's possible, especially given the phone call (not sure when the OP's flight is, but this is clearly in advance of it) that there was another flight canceled and that they are consolidating flights or that there was an equipment change and the flight is now being operated on a smaller plane. I would have thought, if either of my theories are correct, that the airline would say so (rather than simply saying they overbooked), but who knows.

Or the website could just be outdated (sorry, didn't see this before I wrote my post).

We had the same call from Jet Blue today too. They said they were overbooked and needed 3 seats. We declined too. We are 3 family's traveling together for a total of 8 people. Our original flight that was booked last November was cancelled due to a schedule change and we were rebooked a few months ago on the morning flight. Consolidating the afternoon flight to the morning flight may be the reason for the overbooking.
We are traveling on 6/23 are we on the same flight:rolleyes:

in most cases would take the bump to get the free flight and fanother free flight for next trip as that is what offered to us three years ago. we lost a night in disney but the free air made up for that. we were going in late the first night anyhow.

However, those who booked later probably paid much more for their seats. Therefore, those that paid less, may be the ones to get bumped.

They very well may not overbook intentionally. There are circumstances that will often lead to the more seats being needed than are available: consolidating flights, flights being cancelled due to weather, mechanical problems, people missing their original flights, etc.

Personally, if JB called me and asked if we could be bumped, I would gladly take the free flights and see if they could get me out a day earlier rather than later. We have taken voluntary bumps on Delta and been given $400 vouchers each. We were able to get 2 r/t tickets out of each voucher (I think those days of $200 flights are gone now! ):)

To the OP, were they giving you free flights for the future for compensation? I would have taken that in a second.

Usually people without seat assignments are first in line to be involuntarily bumped. But they usually find people to volunteer, plus other people may cancel.

I say it would be better to say no over the phone (and worry about it after you get to the airport).

If you accept over the phone then it becomes a he said she said about any compensation should a dispute arise.

According to DOT data, in 2011 JetBlue bumped a total of 126 passengers (95 voluntarily, 31 involuntarily) out of more than 25 million passengers carried. See http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/2012/February/2012FebruaryATCR.PDF#page=35. That's a far lower rate than any other reporting carrier - so it's almost certainly due to unplanned circumstances.

Haha, I knew you were from NJ when I read that.

Yeah, that does stink...hope it all works out for you OP. I have never heard of an airline doing that!
