We are considering taking our grandchildren to DW. We live in PA, but they are from NJ. When is 'Jersey week"? Is it the same week every year? Is it the same for every school district in the state? Do you know now when it will be in 2007? Just trying to plan ahead. Any info would be appreciated.

It is usually the second week in November. The school's are closed on that Thursday and Friday in November for the NJEA teachers' convention. All schools in the state are closed at the same time.

Someone posted a while ago all of the dates for the next several years, but you'll have to search it to find the exact dates. Hope this helps. :sunny:

IT IS ALWAYS THE WEEK THAT HAS ELECTION DAY ON TUESDAY.
Most but not all districts close for the entire week. ( Other districts just have school on Monday & Wednesday.) Tuesday is election day, Thurs & friday are the NJ State teachers conferences. Airfare is usually a tough score that week and the end of the week(thursday & friday) gets busy @ Disney. :sunny:
also most Catholic or private schools do not close for this week as students only have Tuesday off.

MANY schools just have off on Thursday and Friday . . . in some districts (but not many) the teachers still have to go to work for professional development if they do not attend the convention.

I strongly agree that it's not accurate that "most" schools have off the entire week. I wish they did. As a matter of fact, the 3 districts on my island and the immediate mainland all have school on Election Day, as well. I'll be at WDW during Jersey Week, taking my son out of school for that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It's a common practice to do so, and it's the least "harmful" week to do it in, as a good number of teachers take vacation that week, also, leaving a good number of substitutes in classrooms that week. And since many schools realize it's a common time for people to go away on vacation, they often don't schedule vital new classwork or homework during that short week.

Why does public schools being closed in one state equal large crowds at Disney, when visitors come from around the world? Is something else usually going on at DW at that time also? Do that many citizens of NJ get absentee ballots?

It's not the actual number of people from NJ, it just seems like more cause they are so obnoxious :lmao:

That time in November is a pretty quiet time at WDW. But then you have a state of almost 9 million people who are about the only ones in the country to have off from school at that time. On top of that, overall, NJ has one of the highest average incomes in the nation, so you have a lot of people with a lot of money and with kids out of school for those days ... well, we can all do the math from there.

I didn't grow up in NJ, but we heard about WDW Jersey Week during our first few months here. My wife is a pediatrician, and when she came home from work starting our first late-October telling me that she was so much busier than usual because people were coming in trying to make sure their kids wouldn't be sick for their upcoming WDW trip. The nonsense of such an office visit notwithstanding, she said literally about 100 families just from her practice were going to WDW that year.

Speak for yourself!! :rotfl: We in Central NJ must be nicer..... ;)

Actually....everyone refers to this Jersey Week and assumes the entire state empties out and goes to Florida. I do have ONE friend who goes every two years....but allot of us do stay in NJ and go to WDW at other times during the year. :woohoo:
