After several people recommended this to me, I tried it yesterday. I know it'll take a few days for any tan to show up, but in the meantime, this stuff smells a little yucky. Do all self-tanners smell blech? What do you use to cover up the smell? I tried a little perfume, but I think I'd have to spray my whole body with the perfume. Anyone have any suggestions?

What I do is apply at night, right before bed...then I only stink at home!! :rotfl:

Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to "dry"!

Yeah, I was trying to convince myself that I was imagining things. Then dd cam e home from school and said "what stinks?" I knew it was real then, agghhh! I guess I can be smelly or pasty pale, delightful! I did try to let it dry for 5 minutes or so before I got dressed.

The Oil Of Olay self tanner does not have the odor that Jergens and others do.

I just started using this stuff, too and the smell is horrible!!! It permeated my pajamas and bedding after one night! Dh hopped into bed on night 2 and said "that stuff smells and it's on the bedding! I had to strip the bed and remake it! It is just nasty!!! I don't know what to do b/c I certainly don't want the hassle of washing the sheets and my pajamas every night b/c of the gross smell. And, I don't want to wear it during the day, either! Guess that was a waste of money!

I've tried different self-tanners and have had the same experience. I recently purchased one by Banana Boat. It's a daily moisturizer "with a hint of color for a healthy looking summer glow". It doesn't smell bad at all. It states on the tube "clean fresh scent" and I think they got it right. I like the color.

I thought I'd give it a try. I got it at the Dollar Store! Banana Boat. Who would've thought? I was spending $8+ on different brands! I still have a few of the expensive tubes I need to throw away. But I like the Banana Boat! HTH! :)

I use Jegens and the smell doesn't bother me.

Be careful about using it on your knees or feet and ankles. It worked well on the wide open spaces of my legs but in the creases it looked like I was dirty.:rotfl:

My DD has been using a self tanning lotion by Vaseline, I think. She was here the other day and I didn't smell anything at all, and I hugged her too. I've been wanting to try one so I will definitely be smellin' 'em before I buy one!!

I agree about the Jergens. It's seems OK for the first hour, but then it starts to smell. I tried the Arbonne self tanner and it smelled nice for the first several hours, but then turned kind of yucky. The Arbonne version gave me quick results (I normally look like a ghost) but wore off unevenly about a week later (we were at WDW, so all the spots where I was sweaty lost their color fist).

I'll have to give the Oil of Olay and Banana Boat self tanners a try. Thanks for the recommendations ladies!

Don't use Mary Kay! I looked like an orange pumpkin in parts where it would wash off and i had to reapply. Thank god I stopped in plently of time before prom.
