TR#5 The Food

I am a self proclaimed food snob and while I am not a picky eater I do go for quality and items made “in house”. I’ll mention a few of the places we ate that were not new to us, but will focus on the first time foods!

Brown Derby – We ate there as part of the Fantasmic dinner package. You pick and appetizer, main dish and dessert. Cathy had vichysoisse (?), but was surprised to find it was served cold. I had mesclun. For the main dish I had orange roughy and she had salmon. Both were cooked to perfection, done but not overdone and dried out. For dessert she had cheesecake which was very, very good (I sampled some) and I had the chocolate cake, which was better than average, but not remarkable except for the blood orange sauce.

I would definitely eat there again, but not without the Fantasmic dinner package, which put the meal within my price range.

Boma-still a favorite for both of us! The Prime rib alone is worth going for. Keep in mind that I produce meat for a living and I am VERY critical of meat. Their prime rib is superb. I had the watermelon and coucous salads for the first time and liked both of them. The greens salad with ciltantro/jalapeno (?) dressing. It was heavy on the jalapeno and too light on the cilantro (I ADORE cilantro). Cathy also had a mixed drink “Victoria Falls” (?) that was melon-y and very well blended. Not too sweet and very good. We ate ourselves into Boma Oblivion and swore to return for breakfast next time.

Earl of Sandwich-new for both of us. I had the caprese and Cathy had the roast beef and bleu cheese (whatever that is called). We must have lucked out because there was little to no line when we were there. My sandwich was good, but the toppings were quite skimpy. It also had a heavy dose of virgin olive oil, but it was a high quality oil. On RADP I’d heard so much about how huge the sandwiches were. All I can say is y’all must not be from The South or live in the country; come to my farm and I’ll show you the REAL meaning of large portions. I do remember looking at Cathy’s though and thinking, “ Along with 4 yogurt/granola parfaits and 2 biscotti, this thing would feed Sue Holland for a week.”

At the PC food court, I found the flatbred thingies to be very, very good. The breakfast strata was OK, but nothing more, and the lasagna was barely OK.

We ate/snacked some counter service in the parks including:
Pecos Bills
Fountainview - chocolate croissants to DIE for and GOOD coffee
Norway - where we split 4 different desserts between us!
Kaka Gori - Cathy had never had it and didn’t think much of the melon
Japans counterservice, whose name I can never remember-Cathy had sushi and some sort of salad, she said both were very good. I tried the sushi, but wouldn’t know good from bad. I had shrimp tempura with udon noodles. Yum. A personal Disney favorite of mine. This was also a milestone in that the LAST time I had this dish (NOT at Disney) I was contracting a stomach bug, and lets just say those noodles are a whole lot better the first time.
Launching Pad-I had a turkey leg and continued to experience THE slowest service in all the parks at this place. I don’t know what their problem is other than inexcusable understaffed.

Great reports, I enjoyed reading all of them. Those udon noodles and shrimp sound really good-think I'll try them next time. Thanks!
