Jeep - car sickness?

We have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) Sahara out for a test drive. One the way home this evening I started feeling somewhat car sick from the movement.

Anyone else have this problem? I realize Jeeps ride a bit rougher than other models but I didn't know it would be like this. It's a good match for us in every other way.

It's funny you posted this at the same time I'm deciding between a Wrangler or a Grand Cherokee! You can see my post on it here.

DH was born and raised in a Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership family so I have driven and/or ridden in them all. I had a Wrangler over the summer and absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOVED it. My daughter who can be somewhat prone to car sickness when she's reading in the car was perfectly fine in it. So was my mom who gets car sick unless she's in a front seat.

It could've been a fluke for you, but I would test drive it a time or two again as it would be an awfully expensive mistake if you did find it was the ride making you sick.

DH just showed me pictures of the all-white, Wrangler Unlimited Sahara hard-top that would be mine if I choose it and I think he just sold me on it over the Grand. I love the boxy look and, while not as luxurious as other vehicles on the market in that price range, Wranglers are so super fun to drive. Let us know if you get it!

Thank you for the info and the thread link! Interesting that the Wrangler we have out for a test is a white Sahara. We have it through Monday and really hope for better results between now and then otherwise it's back to the dealership.

Yes, I also get sick in Jeep Wranglers. I should say that I am prone to car sickness anyway, but several years ago I went to CA with a friend to visit her brother. He gave us his Jeep Wrangler to use for the week and I remember being VERY ill when riding in the thing, especially in the back seat.

I just wanted to note that Wranglers have come a very long way in recent years with regard to ride comfort.

DH had one when I was pregnant 14 years ago and I thought I was going to absolutely die with how rough the ride was and how uncomfortable the seats were. It's exponentially more smooth and comfortable now. Regardless of when I've been in them, I can't really speak to the car sickness other than saying it wasn't something I experienced.

Keep us updated, I'm curious.

I get.carsick easily bit not in my Wrangler. It's an old one,too..1998, so nothing fancy about it. It does ride truck-y and the back seat is rough bit that's just a Jeep

The Wrangler Unlimiteds now come with 117" wheelbase and coil springs where my old CJ5 had an 83" wheelbase and leaf spring suspension - not to mention 38.5" tires LOL. So yes, there have been huge improvements. But, I still believe its very possible that certain vehicles could cause car sickness - same goes for certain driving styles, BTW. Definitely go for a long ride before you buy.

Thank you all for the comments - returning to the dealer tomorrow as it happened again. Not on all roads but in when it happens yuck! This was a brand new 2013 so it could get better or worse after break in but I'm not taking the chance.

Do you drive on a lot of curvy roads or do a lot of stop-and go traffic driving? That makes me carsick every time, in any car!

Glad you found this out before going through with the purchase. :) So now what are you going to get?!

Never heard of a particular car making someone sick, other than those old 60s70's and 80's station wagons with the third seat facing backwards.

My motion sickness is so bad now that I cannot even play in the surf for more than 15 minutes without feeling urpy and cannot ride most rides at Cedar Point. My DH has a 2010 Rubicon and I have never experienced any motion sickness riding in it. Good luck in making your decision.

I'll get carsick ANYTIME we get a new car - for me I think it's the difference in movement between the old car and the new car - sort of like getting a new prescription for glasses and needing to get used to the difference. Good luck!
