How do I book Jedi training? I was looking at future dates in April and I can’t find any availability. Do I have to call someone to book it? Also, does it cost extra?

It's free. You book inside of Hollywood studios, in person, with the child present. You normally have to get there early to get a spot.

You have to go to the sign-up area, preferably early if you want the earlier shows. They usually fill up. Head straight there after entering the park. They will assign you a time to show up for the show. You do need to have the kids who will be participating with you and they will be asked a couple questions (age and such). I can't recall where exactly the sign-up area is now, but it is toward Echo Lake and the restaurants over there (veer left after entering). There should be CMs directing people. Most of the Rope Drop crowd goes to Toy Story.

Usually 2 weeks out is I think when the times appear. Get to the park an hour before the scheduled park open, even earlier doesn't hurt. They tend to open the touch points early, follow the crowd going to the left and you will find your way to the signup location. Kids must be present to sign up. Have an idea of what time or times you want before you get there to help expedite the process.

Good info in this thread, including some photos from my signup experience in late November.

Jedi sign up on the right side of Indiana Jones outpost (between 50s cafe and Indiana jones arena)

Line fills up fast but you should get a time in the first hour.

When you come back for your time you want to meet on the opposite side between 50s cafe and the outpost.

2 years ago Jedi training fought darth sidus and kylo ren, but as of late November it is Vader and kylo ren.

Enjoy. My 6 year old loved it. Too bad we can't say the same for the last Jedi.

Is it worth it?

For us, yes. My oldest and youngest loved it (middle was meh). It depends on the kid and if they like Star Wars or not. None of mine are especially into SW but they like it. DD9 is not so much a ride kid and I think JTA is one of the activities that makes Disney special for her. It’s also valuable practice being in front of a crowd.

we got to rope drop and did the line for sign up, we chose a 5pm show, that way we have a big gap of time to do other things, we did find it worthy.

To get on stage and play fight with Vader or Kylo Ren at no extra cost?

Most Def worth it. Disney could charge $50 and the line would still be around the block.

If you choose one of the later afternoon/early evening times to do it, do you still need to get there first thing in the morning to sign up?

there is no way around this, you have to register first thing in the morning. Depending on how many people is ahead of you, first shows can be already booked and usually the ones later on the day are still open and you will have flexibility with the times.
