Popped up int the park yesterday, we tried it this morning. Pretty easy (until everyone catches on). Pre registration begins when park opens, kiosk near Star Tours fast pass. They ask you what morning session you would like, take down a name then put a wristband on the kid. Some people were upset because they stood in line without the child present. Showed up 10 min before show to get fitted with the robe.

Is this a new thing? I thought we had to bring signs and jump up and down.

Thanks! We are there next week and I'm excited about this new option. The info you provided really helped. Is sign up available during early entry or just regular park opening time?

Yes, new. Just started yesterday. Apparently this has been the way it's done in Orlando for some time. We never attempted in previous trip, didn't want our daughter to get disappointed. Had a blast today, was really easy.

In the morning they take signups for the first half of the day, so everyone in line got in easily. I assume it will become more difficult as word gets out.

So nice to know about this.
We've always done the jump up & down with a sign technique.

I'm glad to has changed to sign-up

Thank you for letting us know! We would have been pretty upset to wait until showtime to find this out.

Yet ANOTHER thing that you need a reservation for? >:( This is getting ridiculous. All of the Fantasyland Storytelling at the Royal Theater requires a FP now and it's ALL Frozen (no more Rapunzel or Beauty & The Beast). And now you have to reserve a time for your kid to be picked for Jedi Training Academy?

So much for spontaneity. I'm glad that my kids had a chance to participate in this back in June. We kind of did it on a whim at the last minute. From what I've read on the WDW sides of DIS Boards, people literally RUN first thing in the morning after rope drop to sign their kid up for Jedi Training Academy.

I, for one, am glad to see this! Thank you so much for posting! My oldest did Jedi Training at WDW a couple of years ago, and my youngest wants to do it when we are at DLR next month, but we weren't too into the jump up and down to get picked method. That's not at all his thing so he would never have been picked. We will gladly head to sign-up so he can join in.

The sign-up at WDW isn't nearly as crazy as it sounds. Yes, you do have to go there right at rope drop and yes, you have to have your child with you, but when we did it, it was a pretty smooth process. We were able to ask for an afternoon JTA so it didn't conflict with our other plans. Showed up a little before our assigned time, got a robe, fought Vader and moved on. Really fun experience for all of us.

Can you choose a later Jedi Training time or do you get whatever you get?

How long until they are all gone?

Yep, it's one of the few things Orlando gets right.

Glad you managed to do it on a whim and have both of your kids chosen. That's ipressive.

DS was chosen ONCE. And he had had to wait for so so long, and we hydrate ourselves very well at the parks, that by the time they had us stand up for the choosing process, he realized he had to "go". And he needed to go NOW. (DH and DS have bladders the size of peas, I think) So we had to go. All of us so sad. But it would have been sadder if he had embarrassed himself.

They run to TSMM. Some go to Jedi, but I saw no running to Jedi. Just to TSMM.

Yay! So excited this will be at DL now. At WDW they work around your FP and you can choose your time if you don't like what the next time avail is. Does anyone know if it's the same at DL?

I love this news! I just hope it isn't temporary!! My son wasn't picked last trip and my daughter was. He was so bummed.

I like this idea, we arrive in just over a week and my kids are keen to do this, will make planning the rest of the day easier knowing we won't potentially have to attend several sessions before they are chosen..

thanks for the info. Is there an age limit? Our 4 year old was recently introduced to SW by my husband and she LOVES is.

The afternoon times are scheduled later in the day, I think. Will ask tomorrow. They gave us a choice f two morning shows. Vader or Maul is still random, but if your child is on the left hand side while being lead in, they get Vader

If it's the way they do WDW, then the earlier you get there, the earlier the show - they try to fill in order unless you have a conflicting reservation. As for Vader or Maul, I've noticed that at both WDW and DL that younger children get Vader and older ones get Maul, probably because Maul is 1) scarier and 2) more skilled, and therefore needs a padawan that can follow the routine well. I actually made it a point to mention to one of the Jedi Masters that my smaller barely-7 year old formally trains in sword and staff (kung fu for the last two years) and would enjoy fighting Maul more than Vader. It also probably helped that he's done the routine so many times that he can add flourishes ;-)

I'm SO excited to hear this. We've been to both Land and World many times (currently Land AP holders) and the picking from the audience can be the pits. My short fry was passed up a few times just because he couldn't be seen. I'm really excited that we won't have to wait (directly in the sun!) for 45 minutes before the show just for a chance to be picked. Thanks for making my night!
