Totally not Disney related but I see in your siggy you lost a ton of weight, good for you  So my question is, HOW??? I have about 20 pounds to lose and have done atkins which worked last summer, but wasn't realistic for me. Today I started weight watchers. I'm just curious how you did it!!!!

20lbs I lost throught weight watchers, then I started to yo-yo (but I think weight watchers will work great to lose just 20lbs). Then I jumped on Medifast (with my doctor's permission). It's a soy protien based diet. I was on a "modified" version of the program, meaning I had 4 of thier supplements a day (and they have oatmeal, soups, shakes, bars, hot chocolate and actual FOOD now too I think) and 1 meal, but my "meal" was the size of what most people consider a side dish. For example, 1/2 an acorn squash would be my "meal". I lost 2lbs a week on that and have kept most of it off a year later. I was on the program for 6 months and lost the rest of my weight during that time. I stopped when I wasn't clinicall obese anymore. I'm just considered "overweight" now, with 30-35lbs to go! :) I recently purchased the beachbody.com's Power 90 videos and those have been kicking my tail into gear! :) It's fun too. I also recommend The Method's Bootcamp video (though it takes more coordination).

What Medifast taught me that weight watchers didn't is that 3 meals a day is NOT normal or healthy. I eat every 2-3 hours now. But I eat small. For example, breakfast this morning was 1 buckwheat bananna pancake (left over from my pancake bake I do every Saturday morning) made with Splenda (instead of sugar) and a cup of tea. Two hours later, I had 1 full hard bioled egg and 1 just egg whites.

A few tricks - Don't eat anything at work that you don't bring! It'll help control calories. Cut out caffine, it screws with your metabolism. Get evaluated for any hormonal problems. I'm a PCOS patient, so I tend to keep the weight on and it causes my body to be a tad insulin resistant, so I have to monitor my refined carb intake a little more closely than most folks (which is why Slim Fast actually PUT WEIGHT ON ME! It's carb based, or was when I was on it years ago). Cut out soda if you can, or limit yourself to 1 day. Keep alcohol to a moderate level, meaning 1 glass of wine per night, 1 beer per week, 1 mixed drink per week. You can substitute water for oil in most recipies. You can also subsitute cooking spray for greasing pans before cooking.

Another thing that helped is I stopped buying processed foods. It saves us money and lets us know EXACTLY what's in our food. So no more crackers and junk for me (expect for rare occasions). If it's got all those preservatives in it, imagine how well it "preserves" in your body! We go to Henry's and Wild Oats Markets and Trader Joe's and pick up food there. We buy whatever is on sale and work out meals (sometimes creative meals) from that. It keeps a variety in the house as well, and saves us about $100/month on groceries.

And reward yourself with things OTHER than food when you reach a goal. Get a new pair of shoes, or a spa treatment. My DH has actually started a rewards program for me. For the first 5lbs, I reward myself for the loss. For the next 5 lbs, he plans a reward for me. Get a good support mechanism and you can do anything! :)
I see you have kids too. Remember - they learn to eat from you! :)
Good luck! PM me if you need an online support buddy! :)

That is so great and so encouraging to hear! And I love your rewards and that your dh is so supportive. My weight is Dustin and I's biggest issue (well his anyways), I'm not that 117 when we met :sad2: Yes, I've had 2 kids dear, that can really change someone's body - ugh, it makes me mad! I'm 140 now, was 123 when I got pregnant with Tori. He wants to see that magical 117 again, and all things will be solved then. Whatever!

I did WW after I had Tori and lost it so quickly, but then my mom was doing it with me which I think really helped. After I lost the weight, I ended up pregnant again, LOL! I did WW after Addie but I just couldn't get into it, and I think it's because I didn't have a buddy.

My problem is is that I am SO picky. I'm a horrible eater, no veggies (ack, are you're ears burning from that LOL!) some fruits. I don't eat meat either, never have really, but will have an occasional steak (In my whole life, I've NEVER eaten or tasted a hamburger). I'm really bad but have been since birth, I was a puker until I was 3 so I have total food aversions. Pasta is pretty much what I live on, and bread.

My doctor has put me on several diet pills at my request. Phentermine and now I'm on Merida, but they don't work. I'm starting to wonder if my thyroid is screwy?? No matter what I do I just can't seem to lose it. I'm running all over this house constantly. I have my 2 kids, then a baby and another 5 year old that I babysit, I don't sit until 7:30 (okay I'm sitting now but that doesn't count :rotfl: ). I'm going to check out that video online and read about it. I'm SO uncoordinated that it isn't funny so the other wouldn't work for me either! I also had a personal trainer for a year and didn't lose a thing with him. So frustrating!

Thanks for the info and your offer to be my online buddy, I may just take you up on it.

...thinking I'll call my doctor today for a blood workup.

Meagan,
You sound a little like me. I am between 137 and 140. I have 6 kids and after all the others I've been able to get back to my normal 125-130 within 6 months.....except the last one I haven't been able to shake the last 10+ pounds. I walk/run every night and with all my other activities still can't seem to get past it. I like being down to 130 anything lower than that I almost look skinny. My husband was in the hospital almost all of last October and I lost 5 pounds due to stress and worry then he got home and the holidays came and I gained back 6........now I can't get rid of it. I don't over eat but don't starve myself either. I eat fruits and veggies but probably need to cut out any occasional treats, crackers etc. I probably should be posting this on a weight board (sorry) but saw your post and wanted to reply.

Try using whole wheat pasta instead. It's great tasting and better for you. Or better yet, buy a pasta machine and try to make your own yummy varieties! You can freeze them fresh and it lasts FOREVER! And it's a fun activity to include kids in! :)

What veggies have you tried? I've learned that "it's all in your head" is VERY true! If you go to try something new, and expect not to like it, you'll usually find a way not to (you'll either think it's "okay" and point out the negatives, or you'll get yourself so worked up, you'll upset your stomach more from nerves than the actual food).

I did weight watchers on line. It's cheaper and fun!

One thing you need to talk to your DH about is the pressure he may be putting on your to lose weight. My DH married me at 255lbs. He was 125. It took 2 years for me to get tired of the weight and do it FOR ME. If you do it for someone else, and I know this sounds pessamistic, but you WILL fail in the long term. No if's, and's or but's about it. Again, keep in mind that your kids learn your eating habits.

Another good diet is homemade soups! They can be great, and you put in them what you like and what you want. I have a couple of great recipies if you're interested. They can help you lose weight, and feel full, and your whole family can enjoy them! :)

April, 6 kids and being able to lose it all after is wonderful! It is so frustrating though to be stuck at a certain point and not be able to get around it. Dustin's aunt just went to the Phillipines and I sent all my size 4's with her to give to her family :guilty: I can't believe I was ever there.

So glad to hear that WW online is fun, that's what I'm planning on doing with another online friend. I just can't manage to get myself to have to leave the house on a weekend if I don't have too. I'll keep you posted!

Umm, I almost hate to jump in and ask, but how tall are you? Because if that's you in the picture at 140, then you look great. You look like you're well within the height-weight recommendations (for health anyway!).

I'm lucky DH doesn't care about weight gain. I was below 120 when we met, and only 6 years and 1 DS later, I'm at least 145. I'd like to lose some weight to stay healthy but I'm not overly concerned about it right now.

I'm trying to lose weight and the information provided is very helpful.

I lost 40 lbs. on WW and just couldn't lose more. JDarling summed it up for me. It took this so far and then stop. I need to be re-motivated or something.

Keep posting, please.

I have to agree with Javaj. YOU LOOK GREAT!!! We all have that little extra we want to loose...but seriously that's all you have (that little extra). You look healthy, fit, GREAT!!

BUT, again, I don't have a husband that has a "magic number" in his head so I don't know what that feels like. I will NOT pretend to either!!

Just wanted to say that you DO LOOK GREAT! And the tips that were given were very helpful and worth a try! I'd like to get some of her soup recipies.
Oh, and of course WATER WATER WATER!! A WW tip or rather something we all know :)

Good luck, I want to check in here and see how everyone is doing! I'm on the weight loss wagon myself but have much more to lose. Not obsessed about it just taking off what I can when I can and love to see tips that help other :)

You guys! Thanks so much for your kind words :) Yes, the pictures that I've had in my siggy are of me. This is such a touchy subject between Dustin and I, I resent him so much for being so critical of my weight. I lost most of it last summer by doing Atkins and not once did he say something encouraging or nice to me about it. After I gained it back and he started bringing my weight up during arguments again I told him I didn't think it mattered since he never said anything when I DID lose it. He's response was, was that I didn't do it the right way :guilty: Who knew! It's very frustrating.

I joined WW this morning and will start Monday. I'm really excited about it. If anyone else is interested in doing it with me I'd love the company. Or would just love to have a buddy if you don't want to too :) I'll take all the encouragment and support I can get!

Thanks again and I'll definitely keep you updated on my progress!

Keep up the good work! Remember though - you're doing this becuase YOU want to lose a few extra lbs, not because HE wants you to. My guess is he's the type of guy that will find something to bring up in arguments that you think doesn't matter or that's ancient history anyway. ;)

I was always teased about my weight as a kid, but you know what? That did make me want to lose some weight. And when I did, I didn't get compliments about it or anything. I didn't get teased LESS about it even! Finally, as an adult, I realized I had to do it for me, becuase I was fed up with painful feet and ankels, with not being able to shop in stores that sold anything under a size 20. I was up to a comfortably loose 24! Now I'm a comfortably snug 14/16, which is okay by me, but I'd like to make them comfortably loose...

Do something each day. Make small changes that you can keep up. For me, #1 was eliminating artificial forms of Caffine (soda, coffee). #2 was eliminating fast food from the menu. And so on and so forth. Little changes have a better chance of sticking and being a life long habit.

This will sound crazy too, but it's the 1 thing I don't like about weight watchers - get off the scale. That's right, stop worrying about "the number". It's just that - a "number". I agree with the others when I say you do look healthy. And that's important. You need to feel healthy as well.

Create your own overall health and wellness lifestyle - not just to lose a few lbs. If you do it that way, you'll definately gain it back!

You can do anything you put your mind to.

Meagan,

You do look great. It sounds like your hubby is naturally thin and just doesn't understand that different metabolisms work differently. We tend to place too much emphasis on being skinny. It's unfortunate that it is an issue in your marriage.
I know I used to think that with a little one I would be running around so much, and that would help keep me fit. The problem with me was that with a little one, I also found myself eating kid food occassionally (McD, Taco Bell, etc.) and that was death for me. Furthermore, as the little one grew, I ran a little less, but kept eating poorly. I went through a kitchen remodel--more eating out. Ouch!

It's unfortunate that you don't like veges! That was the thing that helped me most with my WW style diet. (I lost close to 30lbs and have kept it off for 1 year). I discovered low to no point foods that I could eat frequently without regret. If you can find some fruits and veges that you like, I think you'll do well with WW. You strike me as being very friendly and socialable, so the support system of WW's should suit you.

I'll have to work on my caffeine; otherwise, I agree with most everything JDarling has said. For me, eating my own food was particularly helpful. I can make yummy low fat soups and other meals that keep me full without adding too many calories. I also recommend going to DL often. All that walking is great!

Just remember what caffine does to your body and you might think twice about it! ;)

Caffine (clinically speaking) shrinks the blood vessles in your body, making your heart work HARDER while you're doing nothing (hence "the shakes" and stuff you get from ODs of it). That's why people on caffine pills and working out have heart attacks. Scared me right out of it! LOL
