I just got notified that JetBlue canceled my nonstop flight from Syracuse to Orlando tomorrow morning.

They've put me on a flight on THURSDAY with a stop in Boston that doesn't get into MCO until nearly 7:30 Thursday night.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I am not happy about this at all. And they gave zero reason for canceling tomorrow's flight.

I have never been canceled only delayed before. However my brother and sister in law were to fly home direct from Orlando to Buffalo on JB on Sunday and were canceled for no reason. Told th next day not avail too. They fly home on spirit next morning. Only good part, I guess, is they notified before they got to airport. No bad weather either city. Not sure what happened.

Wow. That is not making me feel very happy about JetBlue.

Right now I'm thinking about flying out of Rochester tomorrow on American.

There's a SYR-PHL-MCO connection on American tomorrow afternoon with seats. JetBlue is winding down its alliance with American but you might ask if they can rebook you (at no extra cost.)

AA 4393 leaves Syracuse @ 4:25 pm
arrives Philadelphia @ 5:39 pm
AA 646 leaves Philadelphia @ 6:39 pm
arrives Orlando at 9:19 pm

It would cost $428 one-way if you bought a new ticket from scratch. (JetBlue is obliged to give you a refund for the canceled flight if you don't use the ticket, but you have to request it.)

There's also an American flight via Chicago @ 8:02 am, arriving into Orlando at 4:42 pm. It's a terrible connection, but also worth asking JetBlue if they can rebook you on it.

I saw about the American flight that stops in Philly, but I don't think JB and American are affiliated anymore. Right now I'm trying to convince myself to fly Spirit out of Rochester tomorrow, since it's a nonstop flight. But Spirit. Jeez. I haven't heard a positive word about them in eons.

OK. How bad is Spirit?

Probably no better and maybe worse. In the city where I used to live, Spirit was CONSTANTLY on the local news showing irate passengers stuck at the airport when their flight got cancelled and the next available airplane was a few DAYS away. That is a risk you take with any of these budget airlines who only fly certain routes a few times per week (possibly only 1 flight daily) and likely has few (if any) extra airplanes available when a cancellation occurs.

Maybe keep an eye on FlightAware for that Spirit flight. It will show you where your Rochester plane is coming from (Orlando) and where it's coming from before that (Dallas, leaving in about ten minutes.) FlightAware will have real-time delay information for those two flights. (Click "Where is my plane now?") There are never any guarantees and airlines can (and do) change planned aircraft/routings periodically, but this is a pretty good way to spot problems before they're announced.

Well, I booked the Spirit flight--I think. I haven't gotten the email confirmation from them yet but I did print out the confirmation on their website.

I am not amused by any of this, as you can imagine.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm also in the Northeast and was going to suggest that if you can get to Hartford they have several nonstop flights to Orlando every day.

I'm nearly 5 hours away from Hartford. Actually closer to Newark, but I don't think DH wants to drive me 5 hours away so I can go on vacation. So Rochester was the closest thing. I'm just hoping Spirit turns out to be okay. I spent the bucks and bought an extra-room seat in the exit aisle so I will have the legroom.

I'm so used to not paying for a checked bag, since I have a JB credit card, so all this extra $ for this and that was a money shock to me.

And now I have to wait on hold with JB since I booked a round-trip flight and as far as I can tell, there's no way to cancel only the outbound flight. And I certainly don't want to cancel the inbound flight, since I'm assuming that will still be okay.

That sucks, hopefully the rebooked flight goes smoothly.

I learned a bit ago to always book 2 one-way flights. Each one-way is so much easier to modify if needed. The round trip ticket doesn't offer any savings vs the two one-way flights, so there is no benefit to booking round trip.

Tell me about it. I do not know what possessed me to book a round-trip flight.
Now I'm on interminable hold with JetBlue, but I'm hoping they'll be able to cancel just the outbound flight. If not, I looked and there are still seats available on the inbound, although I have no idea if it's now lots more $ than what I originally paid, since my receipt from them shows only a total, not what each leg cost.

And ask me if I wanted to be up at 9:25 pm rebooking flights and, btw, I have to repack everything since on JB I have a free checked bag and a free carry-on, but no such thing on Spirit, so I have to get rid of one of my bags.

ETA: And many thanks to everyone on this thread!

WOW. Sometimes I forget about how big NY State is. Yeah, that's a hike for you. Hartford is about 40 minutes from me so that's my go to airport. I'll send positive vibes that your Spirit flight goes ok. Good luck haggling with JB as I have no idea how they'll handle your flight cancellation.

Thanks. I shall report back.
I realize my profile here still says NYC, but I moved about 2 years ago and am upstate now...and it still feels weird here to me. Not to mention the ultra convenience of being near 4 airports (JFK, LAG, EWR, and Westchester) is no longer (boo hoo hoo!!!).

They have a nonstop flight from Syracuse showing as bookable for tomorrow afternoon.
That is crazy. Now I have to look.

ETA: I take that back. I can't dare look because Spirit will charge me $120 just to cancel my flight, so I'm not doing that. I've already busted my budget on this trip.

OK. I looked. It's $554. I don't know if they'd move me to this flight for free--it wasn't offered when they canceled my booked flight--or if I'd even trust them at this point. I'll have to see.

oh, sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned it.
