Jay Focus Wheelchair Backrest

Does anyone have this on your wheelchair? What do you like about it? I love my Jay 2 deep-contoured back, but I feel like it's time to switch to a more supportive wheelchair backrest. I've had my deep contoured backrest for the last 7 years, and feel ready to try something different.

My oldest has a Roho back. It's very light made of carbon fiber.

I looked it up to see what the difference is compared to the Jay Deep Contour back, which is what my DD has.
It looks similar to a Jay back with a different name that my DD had years ago before she got her deep contour back. We had problems with the lateral supports on that seat. It was a bit of a hassel to get her into the chair past them because of the way they stuck out. You may not have any difficulty with that since you can get yourself in and out of the chair, whereas we have to help her get in.
I can't tell from the picture, but the one DD had was a very flat back - not curved like the Deep Contour. The 'curving' came in with the lateral supports and the foam inserts that attach underneath the cloth cover. Getting everything in the right place for you is key to those kinds of seat backs.

That's true Sue. I had gotten my deep-contoured back after I had my total hip replacement surgery at the Mayo Clinic in your state. I don't know if these kinds of backs are fitted to the length of the wheelchair, but mine was originally fitted for my manual wheelchair, before it got swapped over to my power chair. It had to go through a few adjustments before it fitted well to my power chair.

The Jay Focus back seems to have much better side support than the traditional Jay backs do. I feel like my scoliosis has progressed, because I tend to lean over to the side, even with support (tray, chest posture belt). It has bigger (way bigger) side support pads than the others do. I'm looking at my other options for a wheelchair back, but I'm still leaning towards the Jay Focus.

Good News!! My new Jay Focus back arrives tomorrow!!! I can't wait to see how it feels!!! Or, how it looks on my power chair. It'll take the service technician some time to swap my chest posture strap and headrest from my old seat-back, to the new one. But, I'll be really happy when I get to test my new seat-back out. I was really due for a new one, so hopefully this one will work out for many years to come.
