Hi, I've been lurking and wanting to ask this question...I read on another site (don't think I can mention which one but I got the link from this page??) that one of the Japanese restaurants in Epcot has a hot grill right there at the table/counter and to be careful with your kids' hands...YIKES!!!! Can anybody tell me if it's really a safety hazard??? I can't imagine it would be that easy to get burned, it's Disney right??? Wouldn't they be more cautious knowing there's a lot of kids eating there?????

Welcome to the DIS, TomLovesBecky!

I'm going to move this over to our restaurant board for you.

Hi and welcome!
Teppan Edo has the grills that people sit around and cook in front of you. I haven't been to the one at Disney but I've been to other Japanese restaurants of the same style. We just ate in one a few weeks ago while visiting relatives in SW Florida. Anyway, I would think the only way it would be a problem would be if the child were to stand up in their chair and climb on the counter in front of them (where they put your plates). One would hope that anyone young enough to not know better would be in a high chair.;) By the way, DD5 and DS9 thought it was fascinating watching the chef cook and do his little tricks. We are trying Teppan Edo this August.:thumbsup2

When we ate at Teppan Edo in December they put the kids (my DS11 and a girl who looked about 8 who was with another family) on the ends so there is more "table" between the kids and the grill. I wouldn't swear to it, but I don't think the edges of the grill are as hot as the area where they cook the food. Probably hot enough to be a problem, but not as hot as the center.

Thanks for the replies. The way the warning was worded on the other site, I was thinking it was something a kid could reach from her chair or something...sheesh!!!! Now I can make a reservation there without worrying about a possible ER visit, ha ha!!!
