We are here! We have arrived in Tokyo a couple of days early before meeting up with ABD in Kyoto. Thanks to my little travel hacking hobby our flight on ANA was in first class and all on miles. We have a two nights stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo which is also on points.

When we arrived in NRT we booked a limousine bus ride to the hotel which is about 2 hours away. Tomorrow we will attempt to navigate the train lines which will be an adventure all on their own.

I will once again be attempting a day by day, play by play trip report.

Thanks everyone! I’m sure we will have a blast!

Looks like you're off to a fabulous start! Looking forward to your report.

Is that the view from your room??

Sayhello

Yes! It’s pretty spectacular!

Looking forward to meeting you! I arrived in Osaka last night via AA/JL and will be heading to the hyatt later today.

Same here! Glad you arrived safe and sound!

Today we took a number of trains and subways to get to our destinations which are nowhere near the hotel we are staying. I was fine with that because the Park Hyatt is a bucket list item that I get to cross off. It was quite the adventure in public transportation.

I got tickets to visit Team Lab Borderless museum. What a neat experience! I could have easily spent many hours there. It is an interactive visual sensation. I am all about any place that is designed to let your inner child out to wander, marvel, touch, explore, climb the trees in the light forest and play.

After spending time at Team Lab we took more trains to visit an owl cafe. I had no idea that was a thing until I read about it on TripAdvisor. The owls appear very well cared for and visitors are asked to be very quiet and move slowly in order not to stress the owls. We each were allowed to hold two owls during our visit that were not currently on a break and resting.

Excited to read your trip report! I don't know how you can do a live trip report while on an ABD. I fall into bed every night exhausted!

Looks like your trip is off to a great start. Love your ABD backpack adorned with Duffy and friends. You are ready for Tokyo Disney!

I need to go back to Tokyo and visit an owl cafe. Your photos are amazing!

Thanks! I know myself and if I wait to do a trip report when I get back I’ll never get around to it. It also helps me put down exactly what my thoughts and impressions are at the moment.

We arrived in Kyoto with no issues this afternoon. Check in at the Hyatt Regency was smooth and we met with our guides, James and Tomomi. It was a delight to see James again, who was our guide together with Dusty a few years ago when we went to Copenhagen.

Apparently the feedback is getting through and we have some itinerary alterations to expect on our trip. It all sounds good to me and we are looking forward to the grand adventure!

The hotel is in a great location just steps away from Sanjusangen Temple and across the street from the National Museum.

Glad you made it there without any issues! I'm kind of out of the loop, but can you explain the feedback/changes they are making? This ABD is something I've been interested in.

What an amazing start to this ABD today! The rickshaw tour through Kyoto and the visit to the bamboo forest was simply amazing. Our rickshaw guide Yuichi was just phenomenal! He provided great information with a fun sense of humor and excellent photography skills! I really enjoyed the scenery, design and architecture of the area.

We are headed to the Pure Water Temple now. More later.

One of the long bus rides that people complained about is being replaced with a train ride instead. There was a cruise on one day that did not get good feedback and that was eliminated. Not sure what the replacement will be. The mochi making demo is now optional. From reading previous feedback it seemed like that was better in theory than in practice. It doesn’t seem as if anything is being watered down or anything. The changes are due to guest feedback, better logistically and seem like positive changes. I think there might be a couple of other changes but they seem directly due to providing a better experience.

Oh, wow! Which bus day is replaced with the train? That sounds great.
